Yeah, Dogasu's not available, so I'm doing the thread. :P

Anyway, I thought this was a good ep. Plenty of setup for the next ep mostly, but good in its own right. The best part was probably the way they did the motto. Also good to see Wobbuffet in action, it's too rare that that happens these days.

May and Drew's relationship seems to be developing as a toned-down Ash/Gary relationship - quite a bit less drama and more respect, which I think is good. Although I can just see someone running in calling ContestShipping. :P

May's overconfidence is pretty well-done. Of course, we'll see her fall in the next episode. Once again, very reminiscent of Ash in Kanto.

The one thing that pissed me off about this episode was, incidentally, not part of the episode - the Trainer's Choice. Now normally it's not exactly exceptional, but this is the first time I can think of where they've been blatantly wrong. I mean, really, Arbok evolves into Seviper? WTF? Oh well.

For reference -

Ruiboso - Rubello
Mother coordinator - Savannah
Savannah's kid - Sandra

Anyway, final rating - 8/10. I'll try to ignore the stupidity of the Trainer's Choice.

I'm not ignoring the stupidity of the Trainer's Choice. That was ridiculous! Don't these people have kids/grandkids who play the damn games?! A three year old can tell you Seviper is its own base monster! Are they *censor* morons?! The TC is crap. >.<

For the actual epsiode, I loved Savannah and Sandra's relationship, the realness of it. How children are embarrassed when their parents make scenes with strangers, but are always by their side and supportive when it matters. It's love!

This episode makes it definite: each time I see Drew, I like him less and less. It's not his voice (which is what I normally focus on), it's his existence. His character in its entirety. He irks me really badly (he's nothing like Gary was, despite similarities).

But I enjoyed Savannah and Brock's interacts. Her compliment on his domestic skills was...not quite what Brock needed, given his, er, 'desires', but it's true. o_O I wouldn't be surprised if many women didn't find a good home man attractive.

Rating it 7/10...4/10 if you include the TC. T_T

Trainer's Choice needs to DIE. *NOW*. You know, it occurs to me that they have a font of good footage to use for Who's That Pokémon--Oak's Lectures! Although y'know, having Ash host TC...I donno, it kinda enforces that he knows jack shit about what he's saying.

Brock called himself a "domestic god". Just thought y'all'd be interested.

Why did the mothers look all of sixteen? The green-haired one seemed to have a voice we'd never heard before, anyone got VA info?

The veggie seller was clearly Mike Powell. My reaction when he started talking was "And the narrator pays us a visit!"

So who the heck is making Drew figurines? Norman I can understand, but Drew?

Aah, Masquerain. Helped me win the Salem Hidden Legends prerelease, it did.

So...everyone freaks out when May says she wants to use Bulbasaur since she just caught it, but Ash later
uses Snorunt in a gym battle
with no issue. Not to mention using the Phanpy he just hatched in the Silver Conference...

I love the trumpet theme playing during May and Savannah's battle.

Wow. Wobby attacked of its own accord rather than Jesse using it as a shield.

Speaking of music, I notice Challenger playing, the version they use for previews.

Um...so TR gives back the ribbons and they *still* get blasted off? That's dirty pool!

I'm kinda surprised that Brock didn't flirt with Savannah. I mean, she didn't say anything about a husband, so I presume she's a single mom, so...

Also...is it just me or is "Rubello Town" a really unfortunate name? I see it's close to the Japanese name, but that doesn't change that it sounds like it should be checked for along with measles and mumps.

4Kids has some serious explaining to do when it comes to the Trainer's Choice. I laughed when they said the answer was Arbok. I'd like to see them explain HOW Arbok evolves into Seviper.

Ah, Drew again, I was wondering when he would show up. Though I'm not a Contestshipper (yet...), it was fun getting to watch May and Drew interact. I found it interesting that there were a group of moms who had time for Pokemon training, along with their domestic duties. My first thought upon seeing them was, "Oh, no, older fangirls..." >_> Am I the only one who finds it ironic that this episode aired the day before Mothers' Day?

Another relationship I enjoyed was Savannah and Brock's interaction; finally a woman appreciates him! ^_^ Sandra was very cute as well. I feel bad for May because she has so much pressure, so I hope she does well in the contest.

Roxy's Rating: 10/10

Sounds like you think that hasn't happened before but it has.

I freaked when they said that anyone evolved from Seviper. I'm not as knowledgeable in 3rd gen Pokémon as those who play the games, but I didn't think I was that ignorant! Went and got my Collecter's Edition Pokédex book thinger just to make sure that I wasn't in the wrong. So I started laughing and growling in anger when it came back. They need to get someone else to do this thing, or stop it all together. Or do the Oak Lecture things. I would prefer choice #1. Who evolves from Seviper.... >O

The Drew figurine scared me (unless it was made by the person holding it: who the hell would make professional figurines of him? Then again, he did have a bunch of ribbons...). That's just wrong.

I did like that Wobbuffet used... something (if I'm not mistaken, Counter and Mirror Coat send things back)... of its own accord. Wobbuffet's cool.

How could I have missed "Challenger!!"? Man....

Dirty... pool...? Anyway, that was a bit mean, but then again, TR did "kind of" attack the two who decided to blast them off. I don't think they were used to that, and many wouldn't take too kindly to themselves or their children being attacked. Sometimes it's easier to look in on the situation and forgive the attackers than it is to be in the situation and forgive them. Not to mention that the Pokéworlders have a different morality than we do. I was proud of Ash, though.

That was interesting, but nice. I like it when he takes a less assertive approach.

Was I the only one who didn't think "rubella" when I heard the town's name? I just kept thinking, "'Ruibosu'. 'Rubello'.... Hmm.... Wonder what 'Ruibosu' is and what it would be if they anglicized it. 'Ruibosu'. 'Ruibosu'.

Overall, it was interesting, but strangely, not that great. Not bad, though. 8.3/10.

Yeah, with Wilhemina in Johto Journey's For Crying Out Loud!

Hey Blackjack, are you from Salem Virginia? And when did Challenger play, I think you meant Advance Adventure.

Anyway, the trainer choice was weird. And I didn't like the character of the day, but for a more personal reason, mainly her name reminds me of a person I dislike alot.

Lairon's voice was awesome!

Because Blackjack, you mentioned "Salem Hidden LedgendsPrerealease"

Since when do they use Challenger for the previews?

Blackjack, they use "Advance Adventure" for the previews, and it is frequently used as a series BGM.

Oh, I forgot that there is a Salem in like every state.

Symphonic Melody opens up with Advance Adventure when Ash is looking over the hill, then goes into Challeger when he fights the Regis.

And if you mean the BGm that played when Team Rocket got shot down, that was definately AA, not Challenger.

Trainer's choice sucked. What were they smoking? I thought it would be impossible for them to screw up Evolution (though I also thought it would be impossible to screw up type matching). Give us Prof Oak's lecture and let us seem him get attacked by random Pokemon.

From what I can gather, that would take up more time than Who's That Pokémon? and Trainer's Choice combined, which would force them to make more and longer time cuts in the show (or force them to give up some of their precious commercials... or both...). Correct me if I'm wrong. However, it could interesting if only for the novelty. (Really, I can't wait till they do P.O.L. on "Minun," and it is in actuality Pichu.

I was hoping that they would come back and say, "It was a trick question! No one evolves into Seviper!" I honestly hoped they were joking.... :bawl:

I actually do think that TC would have been cool, were they not fools who apparently know less about the show they're working on than those who watch the show. They should get an actual knowledgeable fan to do it, dadgummit. *kicks them*

If they took out the Haikou part of Oak's lecture and cut out the lecture stuff, and just have him being attacked, it could fit.

Maybe in Season 8 4Kids will use takeshi's Trivia....
