Discuss away. Ash and co. get to Fortree City, schedule a Gym match with Winona, and James gets a Chimecho.

Breaking from recent 4Kids edits, James's wine glass stem was NOT edited out; however, he explicitely stated that he was drinking "strawberry milk."

And now, a haiku:

My darling Chirean
What did they do to your voice?
My mute button broke

I think I am officially done with the Pokémon dub now. Chimecho's voice sounded like a woman saying "chime chime" only with a slight echo. I literally winced every time it opened its mouth. It totally ruined the cuteness of the character.

I didn't like James' voice in this one. It sounded different for some reason, probably because of his whining in the ENTIRE thing. Like Jessie said "his whining has hit the final straw" Though I loved when they showed him as a kid, I always love those flashbacks. Chimecho should have had a more... I dunno, little kid like voice. At least that's how I pictured it would have sounded like. Other than a bit more than normal annoying James and that whacked out Chimecho voice, it was good.

-I'm STILL annoyed at the pronouciation of "Chimecho". It's like they're trying to make it sound Japanese despite the fact that this is the ENGLISH name. Of course, now that I think of it, the "cho" may have come from "choir"(only word that I can think of where "cho" is pronounced "ko", and it makes sense), but that doesn't explain the "chime"="chee-MEH" part. *puzzled*
-Eh, Chimecho's voice is OK. It does the "soothing" thing well, but it lacks cuteness.
-Winona's Skarmory is HUGE. Other than that, it sounded like it kept its Japanese voice(I kept hearing "e-AAA!" from it), but I'm not sure...
-Couldn't they have installed an elevator or something in the Gym? Or does Winona only want challengers who'll climb large sets of stairs that go a LONG way up?
-I think James needs to make an index card or something that says "THIS GUY IS A SWINDLER. STOP BUYING STUFF FROM HIM. DON'T BELIEVE ANYTHING HE SAYS." with the Magikarp Salesman's picture on it, and look at it whenever he sees the Maigkarp Salesman. It's the only way he'll learn.

I'm pretty sure "Chimecho" is a combination of "chime" and "echo." It's really the only explanation there is...

And yes, Skarmory kept its Japanese (Airmd's) voice, as always.

Where I am, the episode did something strange. It came back from commercial, did TC, showed Pikachu, Swellow and Skitty being met with hitodama and frightened with a few Ghost-types, them being a bit embarrassed/exhausted/happy, then... it went back to commercial. After a couple of commercials, it came back... to the very end of the episode, with the happy song and Winona riding Skarmory in the night sky and "will Ash get his badge from such a commanding opponent". It went off 11 minutes early.

What I did see was ok enough. 8.3/10. James cries = I almost do (goldurn strong empathy), but that scene was really cute. I didn't particularly like Chimecho's voice, and James' did sound rather odd. And going by what Argy said, that's some incredibly dark "strawberry milk." Did he fill the glass 2/5 of the way with syrup/powder or something? Ugh....

-Maybe she wants people to use their giant Flying Pokémon. If you don't, you get to walk up the stairs.

Nah....

-For real.

Haven't seen this ep yet, but I've always pronounced Chimecho as "CHIMMY-ko".

They used to do this "Take the Challenge" PokéRap-type thing during the credits, and they pronounced it that way. I guess that's why "chime-echo" sounded odd to me. I wonder why they changed it, or why it was "CHIMMY-ko" in the first place.

It was okay. Winona and her Skarmory were cool. Ash and Max taking turns pulling Brock away from Winona was amusing. I'm evidently the only person who liked Chimecho's voice. And I loved the scene with the Ghost types. I thought of the Haunted Mansion ride at Disney World, just Pokémon-style.

Second that.

I prefered the dub's voice of Chimecho over that annoying whine/ear-ripping voice that it had in the original. I actually think it sounds far more convincing.*Gets ready to be hit by stones and bricks* I'LL TAKE YOU ALL ON!!

The episode was pretty good. I liked the little bit when Pikachu, Skitty, & Swellow(I prefer the orignal JP voice*sniff*) went to the spooky ride. I liekd James voice the whole second half of the episode:P. Max annoyed me to tears. Um, 7/10.

Now excuse me as I try and find that dead skunk in my house because THAT #%$^% SMELL IS DRIVING ME NUTZ.

For an episode that has two reasons not to be a filler, it kinda sucked. But anyway... one interesting point is the fact that Ash pulled the ear this time. :-D

Also...

For those who have seen the episode with the actual battle, does Winona mention a reason for not using Skarmory, or is she just surprising Ash? Cause I expected it to be said in this episode if there was a reason. If there's no reason, this episode gets an extra point in my book for giving screentime to a Pokemon Winona doesn't even use. XD

I have a question in the Japanese verson was the guy who sold James the fake chimecho the magikarp guy? To me he looked different.

He's the same guy, and he looks exactly the same. Wow, he had a straw hat this time...big difference.

How many episodes is it since James last got swindled by him? "Pearls Are A Spoink's Best Friend" was only five episodes before this one. That's practically a week in the animé!

Here's my review of this episode:

I really liked this episode! It was pretty good! And I thought the beginning of it was kinda funny, cause they actually went right by Fortree City when they went up those steps. LOL. XD Anyway, that was really funny how they had to keep walking back up and down those steps all those times. XD And I liked the part when Max took a ride on Skarmory and then May took a ride on it. I wished Ash would've taken a ride on it too. That would've been cool! Oh well. Anyway though, I liked James' flashback about having always wanted a Chimecho. That was cool! And it was funny how he got tricked by the Magikarp Salesman again. XD Of course, after that, it was cool that he actually got a Chimecho. And I liked all the parts when they showed everyone's Pokemon having fun at the carnival. That was cool! And I love the song that they played during that scene, You And Me And Pokemon! Did anyone else notice they played that song? Anyway, I think one of my favorite parts in this episode was the part where Team Rocket was shocking Swellow and Pikachu, and Ash told Swellow that it could take it, and it did. That was really cool! And I liked Winona's expression when that happened. She was so surprised! XD Oh, and I also liked the part at the end when they had the fireworks, and all the different flying Pokemon were in the night sky. That was cool! And overall, this was a really good episode, and it was interesting and very exciting too.

Rating: 9 out of 10

I liked this episode very much, and now I know its not pronounced "Chimmy-ko" anymore at least.

James was very funny thoughout the episode, my abosolute favorite part is when James discovers that he has been scammed (Yet again.) Jessie and Meowth ask "Ok, how much are we out this time?"

I also like how they kept all the "Love" referances between James and Chimecho
in the english dub. I also highly approve of how the used "You and me, and Pokémon" as backround music. Normally they just replace the bgm with a generic melody, not even bothering to at least use the dub version of the corisponding japanese song. *Is still upset over the the way they took "Ready Go" out of "Disguise Da Limit"*

Anyway... this episode gets a 7/10.

Another complaint I have about the episode (and maybe Dogasu will know if there is a reason for this) is that the transitions between shots seemed really choppy. For example, one second, Winona was standing next to Skarmory, and the next, she was flying away on it, without any sort of transition showing her jumping on it.

When was this (Never saw the dub)? When the Rockets attacked while the group was at the gym arena? If so, there was indeed a scene showing her get on in the original.
