American Episode 363: "Lessons in Lilycove"

0826.jpg

Kids' WB!, 10:00am ET
The Lilycove Contest continues! As May battles to defeat Jessie/Chimecho and Kelly/Grumpig, Ash continues to train with his Swellow. Will May come out victorious and earn her next ribbon?

Immediately after that,

Japanese Episode AG 92: "The Three Animal Appearance! The Referee School Island"
American Episode 364: "Judgement Day!"

0902.jpg

Kids' WB!, 10:30am ET
Our heroes arrive at an island where an aspiring pokemon referee is studying to become a full-fledged referree. We also get to see the second stage of all three Kanto starters AND we get to see Brock do something for a change.

I also ask that we keep all the female dogging about the onirigri -> sandwich edit in this thread.

Post your thoughts about the episodes here. Please mark any spoilers for episodes not that have yet to air in America in spoiler tags.

.....@____@ I just now realize Pokemon's not on at 11. Fuckx0r, I missed it.

Any idea if they're gonna do reruns of it? :x I need my Jimmy or I'll DIE DAMMIT D: h

Lessons in Lilycove - I'd have to say that this is just about one of the best episodes I've seen in a long time, and probably the best in all of Hoenn. Everything just worked right. 9.5/10.

Judgment Day - Not as good as the above, but still a good episode. Kind of corny, but then, Kanto built its existence on corniness. 8/10.

No clue. And unfortunately, Kids' WB! doesn't seem to like replaying any episode past "A Fan with a Plan" for some reason.

Saw both today. I agree with MistyIRC on the "Lessons" episode; it was terrific. I only saw part of the "Judgment Day" ep, and it was pretty good. Not spectacular, but good.

Some people think there's lesbian innuendo between May and Kelly, especially due to that little scene where Kelly lunged at May on the bench to try to get a look at her ribbons. Even Grumpig was in on it. :naughty:

I know I'm not crazy, but isn't Mossdeep CITY and not Mossdeep ISLAND?

I'm surprised that I'm the only one who noticed that...

In the games it is, but hey, it is on an island.

Isn't this the ep where the new title screen kicks in? What did 4Kids do with it, since it features the badge case with the PokeBall symbol that 4Kids hates so much.

LiL was cool. I thought it was great how Contesta didn't give May as many points because she wasn't in control, even though she turned it into a great show. Wasn't too keen on Kelly's show, but I figured that it could be more interesting if I were a Pokémon world inhabitant.

JD was interesting, too, thought the animation was a bit odd sometimes. (Did anyone notice black-eyed Ash and woman-James?) You're right, Kudou-san, Jimmy is pretty darn nice-looking, but his voice left something to be desired....
It was a tad cheesy, but cute nonetheless. Jimmy's stories were fun.

Black-eyed Ash (whose black hole eyes were much easier to see on screen) and woman-James, from Filb:

They used the old one with the map.

Another thing. How could the judges talk about how looking after fellow Pokémon is important after watching Jessifina blatantly abuse her Pokémon right on stage? Would they have given May a better score if she had punched Combusken, which would have made it use some spectacular fire attack or fire/fighting combo (and she of course would have moved out of the way)? What if Kelly had wanted Grumpig to do something unexpected yet interesting with the Pokéblocks, and grabbed and squeezed its tail?

They probably didn't want to use the new title screen until Season 8, so for this episode they used the one for "Lessons in Lilycove" just with new text.

They probably didn't realize she was hurting it, and assumed that grabbing it was just part of the training to change its voice style. Or they may have been in too much pain to notice what was happening to Chimecho.

Phantom Bugsy, you may have luck with me. I'm getting a dvd burned of most of season 7 and the dvd includes Jimmy's eppie (although dub Jimmy sounds almost intolerable). So I bet sometime this month I could send you the episode so you could have it to play whenever you want to.
The only thing I liked were Wartortle and Charmeleon's cameo, a shiny cameo, and a cameo of the Cerulean gym, not to mention Ash saying, "Misty" when not referring to a weather condition.
I didn't exactly like the dub eppie.

I'm not too sure that the judges are keen. When you rabidly yank on a Chimecho's tail, it's not using a fierce technique, or commanding it well. I'm very surprised James didn't jump the stage then and there, even if he had to battle Jessie afterwards. ^^;;

I fell asleep during the end of Lilycove one and I missed the end did May win the ribbon?

Judgement was ok. I liked that it made a lot of refrences to Kanto or "Pallet Town" as they refer to it.
