Review S08 EP13: Once in a Mawile

It’s episodes like this that make you wonder why Brock is pushed into the background so often. He was brilliant in this episode! And the Corphish/Mawile/Lombre love triangle worked really well.

I liked the interaction between Ash and May, and even Max was being more interesting than usual. Torkoal was great too. Ash really has it well trained.

And is that Giorgio at the end? I wonder why he has a Psyduck now.

Also, is it just me or was the animation different in this episode? The characters seemed to be more defined from the background than usual.

This was a great episode.

  • Wobbufett and Lombre's act was funny.
  • 2 fantasies for the price of 1.
  • Corphish's interaction with Mawile was also funny.
  • Ash's density has increased twofold :O

9/10

This episode was hilarious!

All of Brock's lines in this episode were brillaint! "What do you know? You're just a kid!" This episode was even funnier than last weeks about Claydol.

Not only that, the battles were very well done in this episode. Torkoal Vs. Lombre at the beginning, and even Team Rocket actually put up a decent fight this time. I also liked it that Ash was commanding one of Brock's Pokemon without a problem. Really nice animation during some of the battles.

We haven't had a love episode in awhile either, so it was nice to have one of these again. Brock + Corphish = gold. Brock was really desperate to get Samantha. Anyone else notice that during the romance scenes the camera kept shifting to Ash and May? I usually don't talk about this stuff here, but I found it amusing that May said, "Spoken like a man." and then, "And he still acts like a man." followed by Ash's, "I do?". Funny.

This episode also gets bonus points for Lombre evolving. Ludicolo has the same voice as the one from the 6th movie.

Anyway a really great episode with a mix of comedy, romance, and great action scenes. Another reason why AG is just the best.

Wow. o_o I actually /liked/ this episode. Mawile's adorable, but you knew the only way she'd stop having a crush on Lombre is if it evolved. It was being showcased enough to know that, yeh, it was That Time. *had no idea, but damn well guessed early*

Two Boss fantasies, and much appreciation for James in that outfit. XD Much appreciation for James for being the sensible one too. Though how he and Jesse busted out of sleeveless outfits and their Rocket uniforms appeared....I suppose it just a trade secret of the disguise busines.

Also, great way of slipping in the Name Rater's spiel on the significance of a name. XD Brock had it great today....except when he was kept from using Lombre to battle Team Rocket the second time. Damn you, Ash.

Brock really was sickeningly desperate. But I love one of Max's lines-- I think it was the second time-- when he pulled Brock away from Samantha. And how Brock went loco and said Max was just a kid what did he know. And then there was Ash's "You shouldn't go out of your way to like someone/make someone like you." line and May's lines following were priceless.

:3 I liked it! I really did! *hugs Brock*

Finally, an episode where the girl has my name! it only took them what, 6 years to use the name "Samantha"?

I watched it, it was pretty entertaining. haha. Brock's lines made me laugh, and also when May said "spoken like a man" lol.

What the heck is with them changing the Boss' drink color all the time? He's a freakin' adult, possibly older then the Twerps combined! I mean, they didn't have a problem with his burbon or whatever it was in MR, why now?

Hmm. The captions didn't get TR's "It's always fight or flight" line.

Have I mentioned how much I love Corphish's voice? Well I do.

Mawile's voice was pretty good too.

Ludicolo, on the other hand...what posessed them to give such an awesome pokémon such a horrible voice? In Japanese too. It just can't win!

Best...AG episode...EVER!!!!! Awesome animation, great battle choreography, and a nearly endless onslaught of jokes. It was very similar to that Igglybuff episode from Johto, but still funny enough that it didn't feel recycled, at least to me. Brock desperation was hilarious. James' reaction to Meowth's first fantasy was the best, Seems he's finally getting tired of Meowth's scary thoughts. And it was great that Team Rocket finally found a pokemon that they don't want, it was a nice twist. I give this episoe 5 stars, a perfect score. I must say though that Ludicolo is the UGLIEST pokemon ever created.

And I don't think this episode would be considered a filler, since Lombre evolved.

Eh, I dunno. This episode seemed a WHOLE lot better to me the first time around. When I watched it this morning, I was just kind of like "eh...this episode is going absolutely nowhere." It felt like a case of the writers having too many ideas and trying to cram them all into one episode, and it made the whole episode feel weird and disjointed to me.

On the plus side, this episode DOES make me like Kucheat (since I thought it was fugly when all I had to go on was its GBA sprite) and Takeshi's Paradise is always welcome.

That was a DTV. Besides, that was dubbed years ago, and standards have become more strict since then.

Is it me, or did it look like Gio was drinking milk from a martini glass?

This episode was hilarious, from Brock and Corphish's attempt to entertain the audience to Wobby's and Lombre's stand-up routine. Whether you want to consider it a filler or not (since one of Brock's Pokémon actually evolved), it still is one of the better episodes.

Did their comedy act make any more sense in the original?

I would have preferred it if we had actually got to see any of it!

Yeah, you CAN'T consider episodes like these filler. Any episode where someone catches a new Pokemon or one of their Pokemon evolve is automatically non-filler.

Filler episodes means you can miss the episode and nothing different will have happened. But if you see a certain character with a new Pokemon you're like, "When did he/she get THAT Pokemon?" meaning that one episode IS important.

Any episodes like this aren't filler in the slightest, even if the evolution doesn't happen till the last 3 minutes of the episode.

I only saw a bit of it here and there, but it was very good. Brock's voice was very strong and energetic in this ep, which I liked.

As for the drink... I'd rather have him drinking fruit juice than milk. But it still looks odd.

I don't think most people would have gotten the joke, but still a hilarous part.

I really liked this episode it wasn't another Brock gets a crush on a girl episode. I thought it was similar to the twin igglybuff episode, but not really. I like them both, but I like the igglybuff one better. I give this one an 8.5.

This episode was classic. Brock was fantastic in this episode, as were Ash, May, and Max. I absolutly loved the battle animations, and the Wobbuffet/Lombre routine had me in stitches. Brock sympathizing with Corphish was hilarious, especally when he was asking Corphish to preform with him.
Team Rocket was also really good, the boss fantasys were funny. I love episodes in which they show more determination when battling the twerps. Although, I didn't like how Ash was commanding Lombre. A Pokémon usually won't follow commands from other trainers unless it's actual trainer tells it otherwise. (Al la, Princess Vs. Princess.)

All in all, this episode was very entertaining. 9/10

Is it me, or did they edit out the scene with Rukario and Mew, and replace it with a stupid clip of Pikachu using Iron Tail? I would've mentioned it for last week's ep, but my PC is messed up.
