Review S08 EP29: Deceit and Assist ・ EP30: Rhapsody in Drew

So the end of the Grand Festival and May's quest is finally dubbed. But more importantly, Ash and Max start attacking people's backsides with Snorunt and Torkoal.

Yeah... I still don't know when the Grand Festival episodes come to the UK.

All of May's friends watching the Grand Festival-sweet Harley underestimates May and gets pwned-good. Drew was intense-also good. Contestshipping-What in the world? o.o

More blatent than everything Wakana did? Now I want to see these episodes even more...

Deceit And Assist: Ugh, now that Harley's voice has broken in, it doesn't sound like he does in his debut episode. I'm mildly disappointed. He also turned out to be a poor man's bitch. >.> Ugh. Don't like you even more now.

^_^ Anthony winz! Power to the heavy-set people who aren't male Misty cosplayers! He reminded me of Hayato/Chumley from YGO GX...except with a Swalot. EEEEE!

XD;;; It seems when Caroline is away, Norman and what's-his-name (Ken?) play. XD Um, ignore that sound; that's my brain going on fangirl mode. Moving on.

And why didn't they think of Bulbasaur for the Solarbeam? Skitty used Razor Leaf, so it's in the party....and they jump to Munchlax. Yeah, that's deduction work for you. *snort* Um, j00 phail for not letting us figure it out if it was Munchlax or Bulbasaur, ya rotten bi-asteds!

So, who wants to take bets that that...noise Tropius made won't be it's dub voice? On the other hand, that actually was a decent question. "Which one of these is a Flying type?" And they didn't make it obvious either. Kya~

Rhapsody in Drew: Only caught Harley defeat by May, otherwise it was Turtle Time. Heh. Not that I missed much. A title like that I'm better off avoiding.

And the contest moves for either of them. Um, right. So not believing Skitty's so good with Blizzard (and hell, it doesn't even get STAB) that is could do that. And um, how does Razor Leaf and Silverwind raise the other's attack when used in combination? -_- Please, explain that one. Crock o' bull.

Repeat after me.

The show and the games are different.

Got it? Good.

I liked the episodes.

Harley is creepy. Especially with that Banette. Now all he needs is a Murkrow! XD Yeah, but Harley I think is like border-line insane. He dresses like a Cacturne (which is supposed to be creepy), and he pulls it off with..um...flying colors...of the rainbow...ha. He reminds me of a bitchy cheerleader. I do like him, though, he's very uinique.

Robert is awsome, I think. I had a hunch that he'd win the Grand Festival when I first saw him and his Milotic. I liked it how he wasn't a snob, and he helped Ash out. Robert's voice actor is the same as Bakura's (Yu-Gi-Oh!) and Giovanni's, so that makes him cool. But seeing Snorunt evolve pissed me off. It's not cute and mischevious looking as it was, and the way it sounds is uuuuuuuuuuuuugh, horrible. Maybe it'll be better in future episodes. I liked Anthony, also. Swalot is cool, and sounded like I thought it would.

The reason Silver Wind and Razor Leaf powered each other up is probably because the Silver Wind accelerated the speed of Razor Leaf, and Razor Leaf made Silver Wind even more leathal with it's...razor leaves. I would imagine Silver Wind would feel like knives going at you, also.

Uh...huh. I'm well aware they're different. I'm well aware they don't use the same specs. I'm aware the anime graciously takes liberties with everything that in the games and makes them helluva lot more realistic for that world's interpretation. I like realism!

That doesn't cut it when the dub makes it sound like using Razor Leaf and then Silverwind or vice versa is some sort of plausible combination for the games' contests that's a sure winner, or that in double battles, these two will naturally power up the attacks in some way. /That's/ my problem.

See pkmn Trainer Zach's response. Such realism makes the anime much more interesting than the games.

Jessie said the first line, James says the second. Kind of a repeat of the joke in Pokémon 4Ever, but I still laughed.

One question...Raoul Contesta?
That's what I was thinking. Does Contesta have a first name in the Japanese version?

"Use Jump"? That's a curious way to say that.

After Drew discovered Harley's plan, I really liked the dialouge they gave him when he yelled at May.

Drew saying, "Don't trust anybody!" pretty much sums up his character. I was quite pleased he said that to May, since May is awfully naive and trusting. That line pretty much proves that Drew is a loner who quite frankly, doesn't trust anybody. It's why he's always skulking about without any real friends to his name.

Pretty much the best line they could have given him, it sums up his character well.

Seems to me the only difference between contests and Gym battles is that Gym battles have no time limit and contests have a commentator and the preliminary appeal stages. I still prefer Gym battles, but I do like appeals.

As much as I don't like May, I actually felt sorry for her when it was revealed Harley had tricked her. Sure, we all knew she was being an idiot, but she was just so hurt, and that was sad.

Robert's voice sort of reminds me of Juan, and then they both have Milotic. But yeah, I definitely liked Robert.

Anthony wasn't too special, in my view. Neither outstanding nor despicable.

I liked Drew from the first time I was acquainted with him, and he didn't disappoint here. A very good character - not arrogant but definitely talented. A very good rival. Heck, he deserves to win more than May does. I'd root for him if they have a match again, which I'm sure they will. As for Drew and Robert, it was a nice touch that Drew lost to such a good coordinator. Really ticked me off that everyone was cheering for May even though she lost but I don't think Drew got similar treatment. And Scott, what's wrong with being a loner? I tend to like those sorts of characters, come to think of it.

Pretty good episodes in my view, 'Rhapsody' better than 'Deceit.' And I agree that Glalie has a bad voice.

Edit: Drew/May would actually work for me. Doesn't mean I like Ash/Misty, though, which I don't like just based on dynamic.

The audience was on May's side because she put up such a great fight. Combusken going inside of Flygon's Flamethrower and delivering a Sky Uppercut to it's face was simply... awesome.

That and May's the hero, and not Drew, and the writers always want the heroes to feel good. :p

Both of these episodes were fun. Deceit and Assist had some funny lines from TR and Harley. Harley's "Cry me a river" line had be laughing. And Jessie getting swallowed by Swalot was such a win.
Skitty's appeal had it's moments. I like how discovering the sudden Solarbeam threw May off her game for a moment, and she had to recover. Masquerain's appeal is probably one of my all-time favorite appeals.

In Rhapsody in Drew, I thought the May vs. Harley battle went too quickly, and it seemed like Harley barely put up a fight. I suppose they wanted to show May steamroll Harley, but he is a competent opponent, so it really shouldn't have gone so fast, in my mind.

I enjoyed the May vs. Drew battle, of course, I like Flygon so I may be biased. I noticed that Snorunt evolved before it got a chance to use Robert's advice about gathering its energy at the tip of its head. (Could Robert's touch have the same magical Pokémon-evolving qualities as James's kick?) I suppose it used the advice post-evolution as a Glalie.
