Review S09 EP40: Duels of the Jungle!

Carrigan = Care Again. XD

I hope hope hope they keep Chiisaki Mono Instrumental.

And lol, Aipom DOES look HUGE in this episode.

Kerrigan, according to the captions.

Did anyone else notice the shot from between Meowth's legs? And what was with his line about a "dame in the back"?

This is one of the last real fillers of the Battle Frontier saga, and at least its a good one. Weevile is like the new Scyther, in fact, this entire episode was very similar to the episode where Tracey caught Scyther back in the Orange Islands.

Does anyone else think PUSA makes Ash act out of character at times? He's a lot more arrogant and harsh toward Pokemon in this dub than he was back in the 4kids version. Likewise, at the end of the episode he said, "That Aipom is nuts," whereas if 4kids was dubbing this, they would never have Ash say that about one of his own Pokemon. Its a pretty sharp contrast, I think.

Otherwise a nice episode with the highlight being the Weevile battles of course. Jessie has wanted a Sneasel ever since Johto, nice to see she still desperately wants one and its evo all the way now.

The animation in this episode was sub par, done by the same team that did the recent Hyouta episode in Japan. You can tell how poor May looked in this episode that this team sucked, her proportions were horrible.

My thoughts exactly. ;[

They air at 9:30am ET. The Parrap episode aired last week, and new episodes are scheduled to continue every week throughout January.

Did anybody else find that music during the scene after Weavile's flashback (Max asks Pikachu if it could sniff Weavile out) bizarre?

And what was with his line about a "dame in the back"?
"The only thing worse than a dame in the back is a dumb dame in the front!"

Does anyone else think PUSA makes Ash act out of character at times?
I noticed that as well.

"And then they all learned to live in peace and harmony". Yech. What bull. I was joping for our Weavile to kick the "wild" Weavile in the face and tell him to stay the heck away from his pack. Nope, instead the same Sneasel that was running away in fear just a few minutes ago decides we should all hold hands and sing! Hooray! Seriously, it felt tacked on and forced, even for this show.

The reason I didn't have any reason with this in the original was probably because of Chiisaki Mono. Which goes to show you how much changing the music can utterly destroy a scene and turn it to absolute crap.

But it was pretty funny to have Ash reference Aipom's size-changing abilities. So was Jessie treating Weavile like her husband and the Sneasel as a home-wrecker. Lol. ^^

Ash was edging the Weevile on to fight, the tone he was saying it in made it sound like he thought the good Weevile was a coward. 4kids probably would have scripted this scene differently, because the old Ash wouldn't have said it in such a mocking manner.

PUSA also had Ash say "That Aipom is nuts," which is something you would never ever catch Ash saying about one of his own Pokemon.

I don't know whether this is a good or bad thing, because this Ash does sound more like a teen who gets pissed off easily rather than the Ash from Hoenn and earlier who was more about friendship.

Its noticeable with Meowth as well. His dialouge is a lot more "ruthless" than it used to be.

With Meowth, "ruthless" dialogue isn't unacceptable but Ash is supposed to be the protagonist. Being a nice guy is part of his character!

Lisa's probably going to freak out.

I didn't mind. Just because Ash is the good guy doesn't mean he has to pander to every one. Not to mention some "tough love" did Weavile good.

I didn't think his "that Aipom is nuts" was heartless. I mean, Ash should be allowed too crack slight jokes about his Pokemon. He's yelled at Corphish before and all.

Perhaps PUSA is translating the dialouge EXACTLY how japan has it? I don't know, just a wonder. Plus, I didn't think the "That Aipom is nuts" was harsh. He was joking around, and he didn't mean like "omfg eipamu your a feral pokemon i dont want you anymore lolz". That comment actually made sense seeing as the Aipom IS nuts, it's got a wild attitude.

PUSA is not translating the dialog exactly by a long shot. Even the literal translation, by the nature of the language difference, is not 'literal'. But every line is then rewritten for many reasons - meaning, humor, lip flap, etc..
I think the shift in character dialog has some to do with the WB not having the show anymore. Cartoon Network, being on cable, has a bit more latitude with dialog, and what was once considered off limits is not so much now. Of course, everything is still G rated, but Ash has, thankfully, begun going through some *slight* teenage attitude changes, thank God.
