AG190:
JPN: Satoshi (Ash) vs. Haruka (May)! Last Battle!!
Dub: Once More with Reeling!

Ash and May enter a Pokémon Contest for the heck of it.

(Keep spoilers in spoiler tags for episodes yet to appear in dubbed form.)

...Terracotta Town? Where *is* it? IE, where's the last location they were at?

Another really sucky title read. *sigh*

So why is Joy the MC of the contest?

Wow, another squinty in the audience.

Hey, a trainer with a whip. And Ash doesn't protest?

So...the announcer mentions Ash's victory in the Hoenn League, but not about the Battle Frontier?

"put the contest battle on its ear"? What?

Wouldn't it be considered selfish to enter a contest when you don't need the ribbon?

All right, I'm guessing that TR's "float" is based on something, but I'm not sure what. And does it explain the bandages on their arms?

So...none of these other trainers has any spare pokemon they could use to attack the float with? They're all just standing there like bumps on logs!

"What a hunk!" Is Jesse trying to tell us something?

"Use Pound!" Oh yeah, Ash, use the weakest attack in Sceptile's arsenal...

Whoa. That ruled. Who knew you could use Thunderbolt like that?

May's Blaziken kicks ass!

I guess Nurse Joy's the MC because it's not an official battle and Lillian's taking a break from the Grand Festival deal.

Well, it's not a real contest.
"Use Pound!" Oh yeah, Ash, use the weakest attack in Sceptile's arsenal...
He was giving the captured Pokés a shorter distance to fall from... or something. In any case, it wasn't attacking anything. Although Sceptile Solar Beaming that net to the ground would be kind of funny.

The whole "smoke is covvering the score board!!" thing was really drawn out. :x

Both May's and Ash's appeals were unrealistic, even for Pokémon. Aw well.

A decent ep. 8.5/10

Hey, a trainer with a whip. And Ash doesn't protest?

Whips don't always equal abuse. If the trainer had /struck/ Charmeleon, it's likely he would have been expelled on the spot. He wasn't, so it's just a tool.

Now see, that was proper cliffhanger. And the cliffhanger is all I'm complimenting. 8D But props for FINALLY showing off the unique abilities of Blaze and Overgrow, and the Overheat/Solar Beam explosion (though the execution of the Solar Beam could've been better).

There is one this that bothers me. It's true you need a Coordinator pass to enter official contests (yay, forgot about that), and Ash obviously doesn't have one, so that's not the problem...but how did Brock enter that one time? I don't remember him ever mentioning the pass.

But both have been seen before? What do ya mean?

He got one in a total of five seconds. The twerps even went "o.o" at how quickly he got one.

This episode proves the writers screwed themselves into a corner with May's Eevee. Seriously, what the hell did they give May an Eevee for? Can you believe this was the first appeal its made, in May's second to last episode?

Its fireworks appeal was nice, but Eevee *really* should have been given to May at the start of BF, because it was such wasted potential it wasn't funny. I bet a few years from now people will forget May had an Eevee altogether, because we barely ever saw the damn thing.

As for the episode, it was pretty good. Its nice to see May with Blaziken, something most of us never expected May to have when she first started with that clumsy little Torchic. It makes looking at how much they've grown over the course of Hoenn/Battle Frontier to look really well done.

Ash and May have their final battle together with their fully evolved Hoenn starters, a nice throwback to the very beginning of AG, which was around 4 years ago. (Hard to imagine how fast it went by!)

The animation could have been a bit better but it was a decent last hurrah for May. At least its better than that dues ex Whirl cup match between Psyduck and Kingler.

The final battle of the the Hoenn starters, fully evolved. This is what awesomeness is made of. I imagined little kids across the country going "Oh noez, cliffhanger!" And now, the time has finally come. One more week to
the end of May and Max for now, Gary being pwnsome, and then on the boat to Sinnoh.

I'm guessing they took out the theme songs for Satshi and Haruka again? I havn't seen it yet. D= I'm sad it is ending. It just went by so fast! Atleast we will see Pocchama and Hikari!

Edit: I just watched it. The background music they replaced was ok, but I would have more liked it more if they kept the original. or at least put the karaoke in. =( Oh well~

Didn't like how the title was read, and Sarah started off a bit shaky, but I think she then sounded more improved on her normal talking Ash voice as compared to previous episodes (Lisa, do you feel the same?) Not a big difference, but one nonetheless. And of course, I think her battle voice is sounding great.

Anyways, on to the ep... I had seen the Japanese version several months ago and enjoyed it, and I enjoyed the dub too. Great battle, and I can't wait for the final episode of Battle Frontier. Hard to belive it's already almost over...

BUT, I didn't like James' voice this episode. It sounded too much like it did in the first few eps of the season. Throughout the season I thought he got better, but now he's gone back to where he started, and I don't like it. But, is it just me, or did Meowth sound a lot more similar to Maddie's Meowth?

The episode was "alright" to me. For some reason, I didn't see it as really a bang. I guess I expected a bit more from the Blaziken/Sceptile battle, but instead we just got a little Sky Uppercut and...Pound? A little on the disappointing side. (Other than the fact that Blaze Kick came in, and the 2 Pokemon's abilities which was nice to see. [Yet at the same time, it didn't seem like their abilities made their moves look more "powerful". I guess it's just me.])

Oooooh, Sceptile used Pound in the actual battle?

Thus making me 1 for 3.

Sceptile used Leaf Blade a number of times in the battle.

And we never really saw Sceptile use that tail of his before.

When I first saw the raw, I'd thought that Sceptile was using Slam. I'm both pleased and disappointed to see Pound. Pleased because I don't think its been seen since it was a Treeco, but disappointed because Slam is just a more powerful move to use in battle when their is a type disadvantage like that.

Bleah. I really didn't enjoy this, and I like contests even though I don't like May.

It was really just a feeble set up to give an excuse for Ash and May to battle. Honestly, a contest that just so happens to only have *two* rounds and in the second, only *two* people advance from the first? Please.

This could've been saved and could've helped save another episode ("The Unbeatable Lightness of Seeing") if the two were combined into a two-episode mini-arc. Have Ash and May enter the mini-contest at the Fenault (?) Valley Pokémon Center with the weird Nurse Joy and have their battle then---then you could have Drew and Harley along for the ride to have a more interesting Contest.

At least next week we get Gary and Electivire.

EDIT: The ending was the most painful thing I've seen in a long time. "OMGZ there's smoke on the scoreboard! Who's gonna win?!?!?!"
