Kenny's still really badly acted.

And seriously, nobody sees through Jesse's disguises even though James is right there with her *in uniform*? And her dressing as a 12-year-old is really creepy. Especially since no twelve-year-old in their right mind *would* dress like that.

I'm surprised word of her and James' exploits in the world of Contests hasn't reached Giovanni yet. Of course, it could have and he just doesn't give a shit (given that he seems to have forgotten them, which I could quibble with but that's for another post), but still.

And Jesse said she'll send the bill for her nails to James. Don't they get money from the same source (whatever that may be)?

Yeah, but they might operate on separate pay-accounts.

Still thinking Kenny's obnoxious (yeah um...go away and don't come back, plz; or get a haircut), and thus far, I believe Penguinshippers have little to stand on, simply based on his expressions through-out both episodes.

...Seviper was damn cool though. *hearts*

The one mistake in the script I found was Marian saying that, after Dawn beat Jessie, that Dawn was on her way to the 'final' round, and not the 'next', since she obviously had one more battle to go through.

I don't care if it is a Candy Candy reference or not, that outfit is extremely creepy. ^^;

Seviper rules. x3

Hmm, was an OK episode (I never really was a fan of the contest eps though), it was nice to see Dawn finally win something. Kenny's the third rival for D/P that I'm not overly fond of. I don't know if it's the dub but he comes off as a 5 year old to me.

Though Wobbuffet gave me many lols in this episode. :D

and man, Dawn's mom sure is tough. From "lol don't call back fool", and now "wow, one ribbon, call me back when you have 100 more". :S

I love how Kenny is, actually. I think his voice and acting totally suit his character, so I have no problems at all. To be honest, I haven't liked a side character this much in a looooooong time.

And I for one really enjoyed this episode. I was really impressed by Kenny's appeal round with his Alakazam. Wow, that was some pretty sweet stuff! And the battle between he and Dawn was great.

Having actually seen a contest episode I've found I hate the new annoucer's look. It screams hippy.

And putting my typical super hatred of super contests aside (I could go on a long rant about them but this isn't the thread for that) it was a good episode with some great battling. Maybe if Jessie spent more time training her Pokemon instead of gussying up she might actually win for once. Whirlpool was a bit much for my tastes but whatever. At least it wasn't you know what pulling you know what of its you know what.

*ahem* Where to begin

First off, it was incredibly STUPID to end it and how does Dawn's dress have pocket, and why did she stuff Poffin in there in the first place, even if Pachirisu didn't slip and get scared ?

Second, it's good Dawn wins a Contest, Jessie NEVER deserved to win the unoffical contest, even thought it was "unoffical"

Third, Piplup was really powerful, taking out it's evo form, maybe after the
10th movie, they'll show Piplup evolving....

Fourth, what I'd really like to see an Ash-Dawn Contest final, maybe an Aipom-Pachi re-match, and Pachi wins ?

Fifth, how does Dawn's mom afford those dresses ? and how does she get them, one second she doesn't have it on, the next she does !

That's all for my rant today...

Penguinshipping.

It pays to be prepared for problems. I'm sure any good coordinator would make sure they have pockets in their clothes for situations just like this.

Second, it's good Dawn wins a Contest, Jessie NEVER deserved to win the unoffical contest, even thought it was "unoffical"
...Harsh, man. She's lost every time since her Hoenn career started. Why does she not deserve to win an unofficial contest, when she's clearly good enough and after all that, not be allowed to earn a minor victory? It's not like she'll be winning an official one anytime soon (though it'd be great if she did).

Fifth, how does Dawn's mom afford those dresses ? and how does she get them, one second she doesn't have it on, the next she does !
You question a fictional woman's ability to buy a dress, when clearly money has never been an issue except for TR's? I don't see your point. Did you not notice Dawn's suitcase in the very beginning? Johanna's clearly capable of providing her daughter with fine things; the dress Dawn wears now was most likely tailored just for her use in Contests...hence why it would have pockets.

What's so stupid about a dress with pockets. This is POCKET Monsters after. *shot*

Anyone think this ep makes Piplup look like Ash's Bulbasaur?

I used to think Dawn's starter would evolve all the way like May's did, but this ep really makes it look like Piplup is being promoted as-is and won't evolve.

At this rate, why should it? Torchic and Piplup share nothing in common with each other in regards to personality. Torchic wasn't particularly strong (or ultimately too useful) and got hurt easily (physically or emotionally); becoming Combusken gave it all sorts of confidence with itself as well as that very much needed power-boost (that got it through half a continent and a whole season abroad). Piplup doesn't need to evolve to be powerful or confident, all things considered.

That doesn't mean Piplup couldn't evolve if it comes to an opponent it can't beat and wants to badly.

People have been saying this ep is proof for Piplup not evolving for a long while but... I don't see it. At all. Maybe I missed something, but there was nothing to point to Dawn or Piplup being averse to Piplup's evolution iirc.

Agreed with Jessie's Sinnoh disguise being scary. I prefer Jessebella. *nods* However, hooray for Seviper and Dustox!

And Jessie definetly deserves to win an official Contest. Seriously, she does. She's always been a great Coordinator, and TR cheat/attempt to steal/etc. at Contests much less often now.

Yeah, bye Kenny. Don't be coming back except like... once, maybe at the Grand Festival. Aside from your Alakazam, I don't like you.

I liked Piplup and Prinplup in the Whirlpool, actually... but maybe Piplup's being made out to be way too powerful.

I was expecting Contesta to be harsh on Dawn's appeal, since he's known to mark down on bad appeals even if they're turned around. Appearantly not!

Jessie does deserve to win one with her own Pokemon, and now (before Dawn gets too powerful) is the best time to do it.

Its a shame, really, because Dawn is a rookie while Jessie has competed in what....about 12 or so Contests by now prior? The thing is if the writers don't have Jessie win one now while we're in early Sinnoh, we know she sure as hell isn't going to win one later on when Dawn starts getting really powerful.

I also find it amusing that we've seen like 20 Contests in the anime and James has never competed in one, ever. :p

This was a really nice episode. The Dub used some really good music IMO. I think they kept about 7 original pieces (if not more), including the Shining Light (Lisa knows which tune I'm referring to) from the Johto region at the beginning of this episode. Plus I really liked the music that replaced Ready Go at climax battle, even though it was not a song.

Also, it's nice to see Dawn win a contest in just 27 episodes, as opposed to waiting an entire year like we did with the Advanced Generation saga (it took May until AG51 to win her first ribbon).

You know, I never thought of that. Since Hoenn started, James is the only main character not to have competed in at least one Contest. He'd probably be pretty decent at it, too, if he put his mind to it. We've seen him hold his own in battles in the past.

- Magmar's contest appeal was pretty awesome as always
- Kenny's Alakazam rocks! I thought it was going to kill itself with that Shadow Ball attack
- Buneary looked cute sitting on Brock's shoulder. I wonder if Happiny will do that?
- Piplup's Bide kicks ass! I completely forgot it knew that move.
- I was wondering when someone would use Mist.
- "Ash, don't even go there!" That's what nailed it for me!

I hope one of Dawn's Pokemon don't become a deux ex machina, like Skitty was. :-/

I didn't see the full episode, but I saw the final battle, and it was good. Damn, I want to see Alakazam!

Pipulp isn't a total ditz like Skitty (and doesn't have a damn luck of the draw move). It's also not a crybaby like Squirtle. And, unlike May, Dawn seems to be actually training her Pokemon. So them picking up decent attacks and being good makes more sense.
