Yay!!!! :-D

Cherubi gets more screentime which is good because it had very little before. Its nice to see Staravia starting to battle just like Swellow did, nice to see it won't be a waste of a flyer like Noctowl was.

Ugh, Brock is so boring to look at in Gym eps. After 500 episodes of him explaining Ash's matches to the token female character, you can just barely keep your eyelids open when looking at him. He's sounding more depressed in recent episodes too for some reason.

Lol. TR and the Underground man. Wow, Ash won with Contest moves. I was not expecting that. Very good.

Finally!! A gym episode.
Well I like the episode. Gardenia is my favorite Sinnoh Gym Leader and Roserade, my favorite grass type Pokemon. I just wish that the producers would have chose a different voice for it, instead of using Sarah again. Now if Nando's evolves, will his Roserade sound the same?

The battles are so much more violent in recent seasons. Roserade gets pummed with swift, then gets focused punched in a face and goes flying through a tree and then gets its head smashed against a wall.

You'd think if your head smashed through a tree and then into a concrete wall that you'd be dead.

Ash is so brutal now, I love it.

Wow, so now Ash has the same number of badges in the dub as he does in the raw, has that ever happened before?

According to Bulbapedia, the Gym Assistant Youko wasn't given a dub name. Was her name told in Closed Captioning?

So does the judge have a name in Japanese, because she didn't have one in English. =( I am sad now.

XD The Underground Man was awesome, but I was kinda hoping he'd be a bit more impressive and/or not so greedy (because then I doubt if he's related to Byron and Roark here...mostly on what he looks like, really). I did find it funny that when he was scooping up the spheres TR were mass unearthing, that the caption (I totally don't remember the line) had the word 'wealth', but he had sounded like he used the word 'health', as if there was a last minute change in his personality that didn't carry over, or it was meant to sound so ambiguous on purpose.

No, she wasn't given one disclosed by the CC, which more or less means she doesn't have one at all. And there were plenty of off-stage lines that a name could have used it, if one existed.

I woke up late, so I missed the episode. I'll watch it one YouTube later.

So that cutie in the purple jogging suit is Youko? I like her. ♥

That underground guy rules! Too bad he wouldn't let TR keep any of the spheres. They deserve a break. I bet that ramen tastes good, though.

I like Gardenia's Cherubi. I didn't expect Magical Leaf to just fizzle out like that, though.

Addition: Am I the only one who thought Staravia was trying to "Intimidate" that Turtwig?

I don't think that was THE Underground Man (i.e. Roark's granpappy) but just an underground man.

I think so, too, sadly.

Though, it would be cool if he actually was. He could reappear (in an underground-focused episode) along with Hyouta and introduce himself as Hyouta's grandpa (we really don't know how is he related to Hyouta and Tougan, but it can be assumed from his age). I also see Shigeru in this episode (y'know, fossils). OMG! What a pwnsome episode would it be! Do one, Yadon writers!

The gym assistant reminds me a lot of the main character of The Gokusen.

Wow! That gym battle was awesome!

And my favorite thing about this episode was the music. They used some of my favorite battle songs!! :-D

It was nice to hear the R/B/Y gym leader theme again. And yes! They even used my favorite Hoenn BGM! I think it played during the Turtwig vs. Turtwig match....

Anyway, I think what surprised me the most in this episode, was seeing Ash use that contest-looking move.

Instead of having Aipom use Swift straight forward, Ash had the attack circle around Roserade. And then, he had Aipom use Focus Punch on part of the Swift attack, so he could hit Roserade unexpectedly or something. Wow! That was pretty awesome! ^_^

Nope.

To my knowledge, this has never happened in the dub before.

I agree.

In my opinion, Sarah's Roserade voice sounds too similar to her Ash voice.

I mean, except for Roserade sounding slightly higher pitched, the voice is too similar to how Sarah's making her Ash sound (currently).

Anyway, speaking of Sarah, here's what I thought of her Ash voice and her acting performance in this episode.

Overall, this episode seemed about average for her. It was pretty mediocre, at best.

I mean, I personally thought she did a good job with some of her lines. So I'm glad that a few of her lines sounded great. ^^

However, I think Sarah would've done much better if she had given Ash the right amount of emotion this time, instead of giving him too little emotion (once again).

So, judging from what happened to her with this episode, it seems like she couldn't hold onto the better Ash voice she had in "A Secret Sphere of Influence"....

Aww, come on, Sarah! Please try to be consistent!

On another note, when Sarah was calling out attacks and everything, she seemed to have more emotion in her acting (and the voice). And yes, that is a good thing. But the main problem I have with Sarah, is that her Ash voice still sounds forced (it sounds too fake, like it's from a synthesizer or something).

And finally, there is one last problem I have with Sarah's Ash voice. I dislike her reacts and her Ash laugh. Those reaction lines don't sound good anymore, when they're coming from her. And her Ash laugh is like, the opposite of Veroinca's Ash laugh (in my opinion).

Anyway, you know what reacts are, right? Well, most of the time, it's when Ash gets hurt and goes "Waaaaahhh!" or something (but reacts also consist of lines where Ash has a "Huh?" or "What?" response to something). So yeah, those are the lines I hate the most, in addition to Sarah's Ash laugh.

That Hoenn Elite theme did rule, didn't it?

Aipom sure loves them contests, huh?

What does Team Rocket say when they first get into the Underground?

In the Japanese version, Musashi asks if they've arrived in Hell, and Kojirou responds that he thought Hell would be different. It's my favorite exchange in the whole episode.

Of course the dub changed it, but what did they change it to?
