Review S11 EP38: Ghoul Daze!

Oh, right, review thread.

Heh, can't remember much, but God, that episode was creepy! :P We need to see characters in life-threatening supernatural peril more often. I wonder what exactly led them to believe a random cave was the "entrance to the spirit world"...? o.o;

I liked Brock's and Dawn's partners. They were kinda funny.

Ugh, that music played during the climax. It just downright sucks. Hate it hate it hate it.

That ghost girl was epic. Her voice gave off vibes of creepy win.
Speaking of creepy, Conway would have gotten spirited away if it hadn't been for that Deus Ex Dusknoir. His facial expression at the end after finding out that his partner was a ghost was priceless. xD I was just expecting to have him black out again and was somewhat surprised when it didn't happen.

Also, was I the only one who wort of wanted Angie and Ash to go through that psychedelic portal cave thing? Just to see what would have happene--

Ah screw it, I'm only really looking at Conway anyhow. ಠAಠ
I'll go fan-gaga for the creepy bastard.

Once again the animation for Shimuera was pretty good, though Jessalinda looked weird in some parts.

That visual of the guy flexing his boobs pecks was unecessary.

Strange Dawn wouldn't get that creepy feeling for Conway.

More Meowth dress up fun heh.

Boy, Janitors get to do a lot from cooking, to cleaning, to starting races.

OMG, that lady can COUNT from 10 to 11. Good job

Boy that guy is such a pussy

Was that closeup of Piplup reeeealy necessary.

I guess Meowth can never stop talking lol.

ah, a nice scream too.

Say, wasn't there another member of Team Rocket in here too. Someone with blue hair or something....

Nice try Brock food means nothing to Dusknoir.

Way to go Rowan, desecreating a cave and making good assumptions.

They're saying Summitruins medal too many times.

Idiots, following a random girl into a cave.

Idiots, perhaps if you didn't knock out a Pokemon that could help you.

Voice is getting fraky there.

Ash sure sounded passionate there.

How about apologizing to Dusknoir for attacking it when it was trying to help you.

Interesting way of dealing with death(sort of). Like how that sorta relates to what science and religion are trying to do.

Hey, we may need an MIA report for that blue haired guy...James I think.

I liked this episode. Interesting philosophy(for a Pokemon episode anyways).

Mitchell was pretty whiny in my opinion.

But the episode was actually pretty good. Also what did Meowth call the "treat" the girl lured him with? I'll have to rewatch that part...

This was an odd one. The entire time I was like "What is up with this girl?" And they never explain it. Why does she want to drag people to the spirit world? Nobody knows. Gotta hand it to Brock for dealing with pokemon by being nice to them. Everything else was fairly predictable, from Dusknoir's role to tough guy going scaredy cat. The medal get scene was unnecessarily repetitive. I really can't say what I feel about this ep too well because it has me asking too many questions. I guess it's not bad, but not too good, either.

This was a pretty good episode. The girl ghost reminded me a lot of Sabrina's miniature self in season 1. The background music was ok. PUSA's music wasn't so great in this episode (unlike the previous ones). Their complacent music is good, but they really need to work on their energetic, dramatic music. I really like the piece at the end. It was nostalgic of Kanto.

It was an OK "ghost episode" but I thought they could have made a little more out of the girl.

Rating: B

That guy with Dawn is creepy...

Meowth used the "word" pokeymonic again. Man, I hate that phrase! But I LOVE that "Meowth Mix" thing.

They called dango a fried cakeball skew. Which is pretty much what dango is, so it's no big loss.

I love Ghost Pokémon. That's why I watched this ep.

Jessie: (calmly): "Is that a blood-curdling scream?" I love that line. Doesn't make sense to say "rise and shine" in the middle of the night...

Good thing PUSA knows that Misdreavus is supposed to shreik! And did anybody else hear Ash say, "IT'S KILLING MY EARS!!!"

I think it's redundant to say, "Hey, we got the Southern Ruins Medal! I GOT THE SOUTHERN RUINS MEDAL!!!"

I like Dusknoir.

What was with Rowan giving everyone 30 points despite Ash and Angie being the only ones to make it to the temple?

Extenuiating circumstances I guess. I mean when you have a unmonitered little girl pulling people to their deaths and a Dusknoir unintentionally scaring half of the school to death, it's understandable.

Too bad Jessie's team is last.

But at the same time Ash and Angie still actually accomplished the task given. Shouldn't they have been awarded extra points in conjunction with the 30?

But Rowan is a total cheapskate, so it's understandable.

I saw this Episode of Pokemon twice today. The first time when I was asleep and the second time when I was more alert. It was about the trainers choosing their partners and then Nelson finds some strange girl in the bushes who appeared to me to be that one famous Saffron City Gym Leader, Sabrina. Since she walks and talks like her and says, "You'll play with me. Let's play." Like from before. Then Sabrina goes and walks off a cliff and while Nelson is hypnotized by her spell of psychic powers, he follows her and nearly falls off the cliff while Dusknoir comes from abaft and catches him and then he wakes up with Dawn. It was a freaky episode since Dusknoir tries to explain Dawn the truth that he really has done nothing to Nelson and then flees away. No one even mentioned that that strange girl not from that world was even the Saffron City Gym Leader, Sabrina, or seemed like it. Professor Ruin said that they don't always monitor those Pokemon and that the Dusknoir just linger around those areas. It was a great episode and I saw all those partner points totaled at the end like up to 180 to 200 smb. points.

Ten pieces were kept, which definitely goes towards a better direction. PUSA surprised me by keeping the theme of the Diamond/Pearl starters (when Dawn chooses the muscly guy for her partner), even if they only kept the last seven seconds of it (I think they actually tried to meld it into the US piece...).

That voice that was given to Brock's partner was PERFECT.

Yes! Bulbagarden's working again!

Also what did Meowth call the "treat" the girl lured him with? I'll have to rewatch that part...

I think he said those were "fried cake balls".

This episode was great! Any episode that uses the cool "Darkrai appears" music is all right by me!

You know, Ash and Angie sharing a pose together reminds me of the ridiculous amount of emphasis Shadows of Almia put on the whole "Ranger Pose" thing.

Dusknoir looked seriously cool! I'm a little disappointed by the lack of Mismagius though.

Specially-made Ghost Pokémon food? I'd hate to see what goes into that.

I completely agree.

He called it a fried cakeball SKEW.

Seemed to be done for shipping purposes to me. If it hasn't been noticeable yet, Angie has a crush on Ash.

I liked Dawn's comments again. She's getting some pretty nice lines.

Dusknior sounded stupid D:

not too bad. Im glad it wasnt too cut and edited.

I had already written such a long review when one wrong click deleted everthing! Damn...

Another first class episode. Amazing work and great entertainment!:bounce:

The underlying idea of this episode, searching for and retrieving a medal in a creepy environment full of ghost Pokemon at night was definitely a good basis for an awesome plot which was put into practice very successfully!

Everybody must have noticed by now how mature Pokemon has become over the years. Could you have imagined just one year ago that a demon, disguised as an innocent girl and pulling people to their deaths, would actually be part of a Pokemon episode some day? -Pokemon, a series that used to know only happy ends
As Sinnoh has constantly been surprising us since its start, you can't help being delighted how much Pokemon has developed by now. Awesome!

The deserved winner of this week's "Best Comedian"-Award is undoubtedly Meowth. If he wasn't so hilarious, I would even feel pity for this "poor" clown who always has to do menial tasks and serve as the stooge of "Queen Jessie" :-D

To be honest, I absolutely can't get why Ash's and Angie's joint posing bothered you. You see, I loved it, even if they had repeated it three times. Somehow that scene was impressive and heroic alike.
Talking of heroic scenes, of course I won't forget to analyse the most heroic one of all, the overwhelming climax:
Ash fighting against the storm coming from the spirit world and holding Angie's hand tightly was without doubt THE best scene of the whole episode! Not to forget his passionate "I won't give up, even if that means forever (ash_ forever ^^)!" Wow, that was....almost indescribable! Either cold shivers run down your spine when you watch this scene or...you are a ghost from the spirit world yourself!!:-D
That passionate, heroic scene confirms once again that we may be overjoyed and proud to be fans of the greatest character ever: Our hero Ash!

Unfortunately(!), I also have to critize two things (and I'd like to hear your opinion on them):
1. Awesome though it was, but I'm afraid that we'll never hear something about the spirit world again. There's a high probability to assume that it will just fall into oblivion. Or to express it more creatively: that the spirit world-plot itself will be sucked into the spirit world and be forgotten.
What do you thing?

2. Prof. Rowan is slowly getting on my nerves. Kind though he may be but he judges highly UNFAIRLY! As some of you have already mentioned, Ash and Angie were the only ones to find and retrieve the medal, so why in the world (of Pokemon ^^) is EVERY team given 30 points!? NO, I can't agree with that mean decision at all. If I were Ash, I would have complained, you bet!!
What do you think accounts for that decision? I don't know what to make of it.

Apart from those two points of criticism, it was an excelllent and unique episode. I enjoyed every second and that's why I'll go and watch it again now.

8 out of 10 points

Meowth said Pokemonic again -_-

you really think its getting more mature? I say the shows getting more kiddy, this was like, the one exception.
