We get to see Phione..yay.

Edit:

I've always expected it to be pronuced phi-one not phee-on-ie....oh well.

This salesman reminds me of the Magikarp salesman....except without the scam..

And we were supposed to know what Dawn was using because.....?

Well, at least they cover their faces even though those twerps should sorta recgonize them.

lol, Jessie's fantasy of Meowth drowning was funny.

Of course Meowth wants to be in Giovaani's laugh.

rofl, Phione just sticks out it's tongue...

A Boss fantasy. How long has it been since the last one?

I don't know about the Boss entering sweepstakes for dolls...

It's Meowth lucky day...that sounds so...wrong coming from the Boss.

Who the hell stretches and counts like that. And why stop at seven?

lol, Meowth is always confused.

I would scream too. Who knows what it's contaminated with?

Hey that's the bus from Movie 6.

Wow phione must really love Bunary.

That's a good motto. Though I must say that it's surprising Meowth said Jessie was smart.

It's my favorite version of that classic song...

It's ok brock....lol.

Poor Team Rocket.

This episode was actually really cute and funny. The animation wasn't so bad either.

That's how I always said it...and I never used one on Battle Revolution so I never knew how it was really pronounced.

This episode was not that bad.
One notable thing has inquired me- those who have seen Phione the day prior to the contest have won the contest the next day. That much is true, since Dawn does win the contest.

How in the world am I supposed to equate Phione to a whale? (whale watching) That costume is lame even for you, Meowth. Ummm...you guys have been underwater before. I guess the beauty of the sea never gets old, so okay. Ah, ridiculous Giovanni fantasies, how I missed thee. Although Gio would be quite pleased with the capture of a legendary pokemon. Ummm...Acid Armor doesn't work that way. Holy snap, romantic rivalries. That was a good battle, but I can't help but think this was the easiest victory over a legend in history. Then again, Phione is also the weakest legend there is, so that's understandable. In all, this ep is pretty bland except for the battle.

I found this episode very funny to say the least. I still can't believe Buneary defeated Phione so easily though and I also liked Team Rocket's Phione fantasy this time

Did they keep the BGM from Movie 9?

It's nice to see Buneary do something decent again, you'd never believe Buneary was around from the 6th DP episode and has done so little throughout the series.

Cell phone strap? lol at PCI's attempt to make the show more relatable.

So, Movie 9 music is kept in the first scene, but cut out when we actually meet Phione?

Keeping Phione in that pot seems kinda mean Team Rocket. But lol at wanting to take just one last look. Nope, no chance it'll want to escape...

Meowth being confused was actually more amusing than Nyasu was!

Dawn and Brock find Phione's crush cute, and Ash is confused. lol Good ole' Ash.

This episode wasn't really popular when it first aired, but I always found it to be cute and fun, and the dub is no exception. We get another good one next weeks as well.

Same here. But I can't complain with sticking to the Japanese version. :)

Well, at least they cover their faces even though those twerps should sorta recognize them.

That was dumb. Ash and friends are too stupid to recognize them anyway. Team Rocket is giving them too much credit.

lol, Jessie's fantasy of Meowth drowning was funny.

That was Meowth's fantasy.

Did they keep the BGM from Movie 9?

Like I said above, only in the pre-opening segment. :-(

Who the hell stretches and counts like that. And why stop at seven?

It happened sometimes when I was in gym class (instead of numbers though we would use our mascot).

I really don't know/remember what it's called but I guess it's better than normal counting for certain type of exercises.

Edit: As for why they stopped at seven I'm not sure, maybe in that count you do stop at seven. Of course the real question is why stretch like that if you aren't going to train? Yes let's stretch like this and then go shopping.

I guess I'm more used to wither regular counting(1..2..3..4) or the for we usually do for JROTC(don't know if the actual military does PT like that)(1..2..3..1, 1...2..3..2) and sofoth

I thought it was a moderately above average Diamond & Pearl episode. Phione was adorable, though I never would have guessed that pronunciation. I also found it odd how Dawn could have interpreted such a complex sentence from Buneary. I would have understood "goodbye," but all that she said seemed like a stretch. Also, genderless Phione is in love with female Buneary. Weirdness.

But there's my one big complaint with this episode: Team Rocket did nothing wrong. All they did was try to capture a wild Pokémon, just like Ash does. It was even because of their completely legitimate and honest business that they even saw that Phione to begin with. It could be argued that they were not very loving in their treatment of Phione, but you don't see Ash or Dawn ordering their Pokémon to physically assault Paul, do you? Considering this show is viewed by countless impressionable children, I very much dislike the moral messages of "there is no such thing as redemption" and "if you're a dishonest person, even being honest is wrong."

It's been well established that Team Rocket are basically cosmic chew toys and that bad things happen to them because it's supposed to be funny. I really really doubt that there's a "there's no such thing as redemption" message in that.

Anyway, Ash and friends don't seem to actively search for Pokémon and capture them. In episodes when a new capture is made, the focus in on the new Pokémon character. They establish it's personality and it bonds with the trainer it's going to be with for it's tenure of the anime. In a way, the Pokémon is usually the one that asks to join the group and gives the human permission to capture it.

Team Rocket usually has no interest in what the Pokémon they want thinks of their ambitions. They just sense that Team Rocket is a threat and Ash and friends side with it.

As for the episode itself, it was kinda cute, although they could have expanded on the crush backstory a little bit, but there's only so much time in half an hour.

Also, am I really the only one who pronounced Phione correctly?

Also, am I really the only one who pronounced Phione correctly?

No after hearing Battle Revolution, I always pronounced it the way the anime does. However I can't say I would've pronounced it correctly had I not seen the video of Phione in Battle Revolution.

I've been pronouncing Phione's name correctly this whole time without having used or battled one in BR. :D

Cell phone strap? Wait, they have cell phones? Have we ever seen one?

Heh, the Boss Fantasy.

Phione's Acid Armor looked... different than what I expected. That sequence was kinda amusing.

They did all that stretching just for Dawn to go "now let's go shopping!". Okay then.

Cute idea of having Buneary being crushed on. I'm kinda dissapointed we didn't see more of Phione acting all "hands off my woman!" on Pikachu, heh. But man, Pokémon must have some strange ideas about romance. "Beat me in a battle and we'll go on a date"? Guess Buneary was aware that Phione is the single most pathetic legendary ever.

I think it's strange how the only thing James wanted was bottle caps makes me wonder why he's on team rocket

Why does team rocket think that Giovanni would enter a whole bunch of contest maybe instead actually having a rare pokemon stay in a pokeball

To be fair, I must say that it's certainly hard for every episode to live up to our expectations after the great Iron Island adventure and last week's Deoxys episode. Nevertheless, in my opinion today's episode was quite decent, entertaining and of course cute.

Here are my favorite scenes:
- Meowth envisioning having to understudy Phione. The expression on his face was priceless. Poor Meowth ...he always comes off worst:lol:

-Yippee, finally another boss fantasy! Weird though the may sometimes be, but I missed them.

- Ash, Dawn and Brock and their Pokemon warming up...what a cute scene! Especially the Pokemon were just adorable.
They did all that stretching just for Dawn to go "now let's go shopping!"
You probably got that wrong. It was Ash who wanted to start training and he repeated this several times. I'm sure Ash was about to begin his training and therefore warmed up first, when it suddenly struck Dawn that she wanted to go shopping. I was looking forward to seeing a short training unit, but no...Girls and her incomprehensible love for shopping.:eek:hdear: Yeah, Ash and Brock, I did understand what you felt while you were standing around in that supermarket carrying Dawn's bags. This also kinda reminded me of Jessie's dominance over James and Meowth.

- Confused Meowth. Watching him stumbling around and mumbling pointless stuff was hilarious  Undoubtedly, the best scene of the entire episode!

- Phione is in love with Buneary, which, however, is in love with Pikachu, which doesn't seem to be interested in love in the least. Complicated love triangle:love:

- My ultimate theory why they had the salesman mention cell phones: Have you thought about the fact yet that if you mix the letters in "P H I O N E", you'll get iPhone! Do I have to say anything else? :-D Pretty good advertising if you ask me!

Also, am I really the only one who pronounced Phione correctly?
Nope. Although I'm not a native speaker of English, I inferred the right pronunciation from the spelling of the word without having heard it before.

A decent, cute episode

I noticed that the sleazy salesman at the beginning was voiced by Billy Regan. Is this his first new role since Conway debuted?
