A Contest episode....with a new rival, who hopefully is more interesting than two certain characters...

If my brother's yapping about this kid is true...she is. I'm actually kind of looking forward to this episode..

At least Pikachu is good at giving advice.

Well, this is the last episode that's in the opening...

lol, Mamoswine.

Jessie's seen that girl?

I agree with that girl, since Piplup stole it's training.

Nice silence in this episode.
maybe she'll transform into a mermaid....But her laugh is annoying.

Wow, this is so much silence, they must have replaced some music.

Good idea Jessie, let them fight...

This silence, while good, is odd...

I'm pretty sure SOME music should be playing...

I like Jessie's appeal, especially with that Speed Boost....She did show off her Pokemon more, while her flying was just a second thought.

Thank God, maybe it was just a malfunction or something.

And with my favorite BGM...

That appeal looks good better than Dawn's.

Mamoswine doesn't look as though it doesn't care about the contest.

Yeah, she definitely sounds like little mermaid ursula when she laughs.

I like the BGM, even if it's the opening, it sounds like a good instrumental.

Wow, Carnivine just choked that Hippotamaus.

Poor Jessie, at least she was close to winning.

Wow, pachirisu is getting beat badly...

Good speed Gabite.

Wow, all of a sudden it could dodge better...

I don't know how a tail could stop a whole bunch of stones but hey....

And why did that thing just go through a Dragon Rage?

This win was a bit cheaper than her last win.

Wow, for once Jessie didn't want to kill someone for losing. And she actually meant to grow..yay.

I love obnoxious laughter like that....with that hand position.

I never saw this episode in Japanese...which I want to now.

The first half
Overall, the voice acting is decent. However, the lack of BGM in most of the scenes makes it kinda dull. It makes me wonder- why did they take out just ALL of the BGM?
I never really knew why Yanmega glowed green in japanese- I guess that explains Speed Boost.

The second half
OK, during the COTD's appeal, they have finally decided to use BGM (the Japanese BGM and not some PUSA dub music) after they fully cut out the instrumental remix By Your Side- Hikari's theme (which they haven't bothered to cut out before).
They decide to input Battle Frontier (english BGM) for no reason. Wow, a little bit late to do this, considering Battle Frontier ended... 114 episodes ago.
Urara's name is now "Ursula"- as in the evil ugly mermaid.
This battle alone is proof why PUSA should just keep in the Japanese BGM. I find it weird that they keep the BGM in the second half and yet... they have no BGM in part one.
Here comes PUSA BGM in place of Pokemon Symphonic Medley... OK, time's up.
End of the episode- so next week they're airing a marathon of all aired dub episodes of Galactic Battles (including next week's episode). Wait, haven't they done that every week?

Was there ever this much silence in the original? Not that I'm complaining, but...

EDIT: AH, there's the music again.

What song was supposed to be there instead of the season 9 dub opening? I mean in the Japanese version of that scene.

Wow, Super Fang. Pachi just got kickbutt. I am slightly amused by sleeping Mamoswine with a pom pom on top. Ok, girl, that laugh is just annoying now. Battle Frontier theme? That is random. Thank you for disrupting that spin dodge. Good job disrupting your opponents, Dawn. Ok ep.

I think during the first part there was some sort of malfunction with the airing or something. Probably unintentional, since PUSA wouldn't want to take out THAT much of the music and not put in their OWN music.

I agree with pretty much everyone on the music thing... the silence in the first half was really unsettling, to be honest. I thought the insertion of the Battle Frontier theme was a really nice touch, however. Considering I haven't and probably won't see the Japanese version, it was a welcome addition.

Jessie's attitude at the end was refreshing, but I thought Ursula was annoying as hell. Especially that laugh. -.-;

Anyway, pretty decent episode. The whole background music thing still puzzles me; it's like they just forgot all about it until the second half of the episode, where I thought it was admittedly pretty good. But other than that and Ursula's annoyance factor, I don't really have any real complaints.

That was a rather cheap final battle. I mean, Stone Edge is one of the most powerful moves. Are we honestly supposed to believe it'd be deflected by Discharge? It wasn't horrible, but you had to suspend your sense of disbelief to buy it.

Other than that, good episode. Ursula is an interesting one and Jessie's appeal was fantastic. I've haven't been watching regularly lately, but I was glad to catch this one.

I dunno. PUSA has replaced tracks with silence before(DP98 for example. It also had a lot of silence in other places too), so it's not exactly new... I'm happy anyway. Plus, they used Battle Frontier! That alone gets more awesome points from me.

...Re-watching it(taped), there was around 6+ minutes of silence. Wow. XD

Wait, they actually had a song during an episode again? too bad they used a previous song instead of creating a new one... I really want new songs in episodes again like we used to get in the past

Eh. I'm going to keep an eye on Ursula. Maybe it's because she reminds me of Harley, or maybe because she also thinks Dawn shouldn't have won the Wallace Cup. Either way, she's a character I'll be happy to see again.

I adored that they added the Battle Frontier music. Probably because that's one of my favorite openings ever, and I thought it added a nice touch.

Surprisingly I liked this episode, despite me having not taken interest in Dawn's past contests.

That. Laugh!!!! Urusla was a little anoying, but I think she will be a good rival, as its a rivals job to be anoying. I didn't really notice the silence to much, so it didn't bother me alot. The 11 episode marathon next week should be fun, even though I won't be able to catch the whole thing.

I really liked Ursula, a lot more interesting than the other two (or three). Good Pokemon, good personality...where was SHE at the start of Sinnoh? Someone to light a damn fire under her ass, not "yay we're friends do our best daijobu!". Could have used her back then. She made some good points about the Wallace Cup, since Dawn didn't so much as "deserve" it as she "needed" it, since May went really easy on her.

The silence was weird, I mean I like it, but you don't take out music and just put nothing there, looks sloppyish. And we heard Battle Frontier, the English version...which replaced Battle Frontier, the Japanese version!

The battle was decent, I could just tell it was going to be an anime style battle, with lots of clever tactics. Discharge shield blocking Stone Edge? Gyro Ball looking Super Fang? Nice. Well, one more badge to go, and I hope they PLEASE BRING BACK URSULA!

A concise review of the episode:

New rival for Dawn...excellent.

Jessie's new attitude to loss...inspiring.

Mamoswine with single pom-pom on its head....priceless.

...However, the lack of BGM in most of the scenes makes it kinda dull.

Really? I didn't even notice the silence. Which to me means it was a good choice – the best decisions in any form of fiction are those which don't distract attention from the story.

AND as in Ursula Andress, the first Bond Girl, oh ye of little pop culture history. <sigh> (Yes, it's a real name. And looking at the name "Urara," it was a no-brainer which English name they'd go with – because I don't think the world's ready for a red-ringletted, pasty-white, bitch-on-wheels "Uhura" just yet. Give it a few more decades...) (Have I ever mentioned how much I like their habit of choosing names that are the "closest" to the originals, when they can? "Jun" could have been "Jon" if not for the Game already going with "Barry." Though "Barry" seems to suit his personality, and it's grown on me.... All right, enough going off on tangents.)

Ursula kicks ass. We SO needed a jerkass rival for Dawn. She's like...Jessebelle's Mini-me!

Friends, at last, I give you...Harley's successor! :yahoo:

And yes, I loved Jessie all through this, for as little time with her as there was...from her opportunistic reveling in the new rival, to her "SO-not-impressed" reaction to Ursula's 'tude (Ursulatude! I made a word!), to her excellent appeal, and lastly to her reaction to her loss. YOU GO JESS! The rest of TR was adorable as well.

What's your point? The theme still totally rocks. (Besides, they changed the phrase "Battle Frontier" to "Let the battle begin." Meaning now it's just a total-win song.)

You said it! It's still my favorite theme. Short, sweet, with a fine and touching sentiment. (Unlike "Unbeatable," which was musically just awesome, but expressed the most obnoxious message of the entire series...and it's so freakin' catchy, too. :loopy: AND it contains Team Rocket's squee-worthy little dance...man, what I wouldn't give for a repeating gif of THAT....but I don't think there's enough frames of the "return move.")

(Good lord, can I go off subject any more in one post? My tangents are becoming perpendicular lines...)

They actually named her Ursula?

I wonder if this generation of kids are too young to get "The Little Mermaid" reference. Said movie came out back in 1989, which is before most people here were born.

Maybe they should have named her Wormadam Flotsam and her Gabite Jetsam too. I would have truly laughed if they did.
