Review S12 EP23: A Pyramiding Rage!

Wow, you're quick. We didn't even start the episode yet.

-Still in HD.
-FLASHBACK!!!
-No, I don't wanna see Paul in a flashback!!!
-Paul's just jealous...
-Lol at Ash's cute pissed off voice.
-I'll never get tired of this opening. Mainly the animation.
-Nice title, gotta admit.
-Yes!!! ANTICOMASHIPPING!!!
-Where DID he go, anyway?
-Aww, Ash is so sweet thanking Paul. He thanks everyone, doesn't he?
-YOU TELL HIM, ZOEY!!!
-NO ASH, HE CAN'T GET AWAY WITH THAT!!!
-Zoey in this ep towards Paul=Me
-Suddenly thoughts of my fanfic are returning...>_< Reiji get a chair and I'll be a happy fanfic writer!!! XD
-Random flying Battle Pyramid...
-Oh yeah, now Paul will shut his mouth about Ash...
-OMG BRANDON IS SMILING THE WORLD HAS COME TO AN END
-I will be sad if there is no reference to Evil Ash in this ep T-T
-He learned he had alot more to learn. Nice metaphor.
-He shall lose. I know it.
-And why did Candice not bother to take a car?
-Maria? She tends to scare me for some reason...
-And cue Brock! :)
-And now cue Croagunk! :):)
-OMG ZELDA TEMPLE MEMORIES
-It even LOOKS like the Temple Of Ice from Phantom Hourglass...
-Naw, Brandon just wants to go to the temple to imitate Zelda games...XD
-Paul, shut up. Just let Brock or Brandon tell you how to battle, got it?
-Ash has a cute thinking voice ^-^
-What is it with these commercials???
-We're back again...
-Regirock, how I missed you!
-It'd be funny to see Evil Paul in this ep. Then Evil Paul and Evil Ash would have a big fight. XD.
-XD at Reiji's face.
-Paul, we didn't ask about your inner strength. Where did that even come from?
-I bet Dawn's gonna use her Pokedex on almost every Pokemon either of them pulls out...
-Wow, Jessie's almost got an upskirt there...
-Am I going insane or did Meowth just yell "I'VE GOT
PORN!!!
XD.
-Why is it every time someone uses Protect its always a different color???
-Another Dawn Pokedex moment...
-What song is this in the background?
-OMG EVEN ASH DOESN'T PULL HIS POKEDEX OUT THAT MUCH.
-Wow, Earth Power is a cool attack.
-TOO MANY COMMERCIALS!!!
-Yayz end of commercials...
-Thunderbolt FTW!!!
-Are you kidding? So Paul only wants to beat him to upstage his brother? GOD!!! And he's freakin yelling at him!
-Although him yelling is making me lol. He's usually really quiet, and now he's freakin screaming at the top of his lungs.
-ZAP CANNON FTW AS WELL!!!!!
-There's always an explosion in every battle nowadays...
-Their heads are always turned the same direction XD
-Alright, personally, after this, I don't wanna hear "Stand By For Battle" anymore, k?
-Do I smell Ikarishipping in the air?
-OMG. DID PAUL JUST SERIOUSLY MAKE A NOISE LIKE "Huh..." It was hilarious.
-Lol, Team Rocket just killed it. In a way full of win, though.
-Ash vs. Paul foreshadowing...
-Why 10 days? We're gonna watch it in like, 7.
-OMG CLIFFHANGER!!!

Bet you 50 cents the event at the temple was Maria not being able to defeat the boss XD

Anyway, okay episode. Meh, too Paul-centered though for me. 5/10.

- Paul appears in widescreen.
- Zoey goes semi-crazy on Paul. Again with the "Ms. Senior."
- Reggie was just casually driving around in Snowpoint and met Paul.
- The Battle Pyramid arrives.
- Here is the map of Kanto and the Kanto Battle Frontier, signature pokemon.
- Reggie didn't win the Brave Symbol. Foreshadowing and we didn't even see it.
- Priestess COTD is named Temple Maiden Maria. And of course Brock goes crazy over her.
- Again ANOTHER 6-on-6 battle. I wonder what Paul would be like if he were a Gym Leader?
- Oh how I dread the dub-added Pokedex music.
- Reggie's flashback. This explains why Paul did not travel first to Sinnoh.
- Again...
- Regirock defeats Hariyama.
- Everything must be settled with Rock, Paper, Scissors.
- Somehow legendary pokemon can get through Protect with their attacks.
- Regirock defeats Electabuzz.
- Brandon calls out Registeel (at least this time the music fits). Paul predictably chooses Magmar.
- Magmar knows Will-o-Wisp? Paul recalls Magmar.
- So Dawn does not know about pokemon types?
- Registeel has its own "Volt Tackle." Nidoking is defeated.
- Our first original BGM in this episode.
- Paul calls out Lairon, Brandon recalls Registeel for Regice.
- Regice easily sweeps Lairon.
- Paul calls out Ursaring and matches fists with Regice.
- OK, so it's Paralyzed. Where's Guts?!
- Regice is recalled for Regirock. Regirock defeats Ursaring.
- Paul uses Magmar for the third time. It is easily defeated by Regirock.
- Back to the Rock/Paper/Scissors.
- I'm glad they left; no more "Ms. Senior" and "kee-eye."
- The preparations for the 6-on-6 battle between Ash and Paul. Can't wait for that. But we have to wait longer than ten days- at least 21.
- Now the plot sets up for next week's episode.
- To Be Continued.

Temple Maiden Maria

Candice: Brandon fangirl?

SAMUEL! 8DDDDDDDDD My inspiration.

Stick it to him, Brandon! XDDD Make him feel so farking inadequate!

...Ooo. That's pretty music. Very fitting for the moment.

Oh my god. I don't think I noticed. Did they stop the "To be continued" thing before this? o_O

CC issues: When Brandon is critizing Reggie's "ordinary" battling style, CC says it's "neatly put together".

When Dawn is going on about how Poison types don't affect Steel-types, CC says, "Iron-types"...unless she did say that and it slipped by me.

"Nidoking's out as well" (Whatever...whoever said what, but it wasn't the same)

-Paul, shut up. Just let Brock or Brandon tell you how to battle, got it?
IAWTC, for nefarious purposes. XD

*gets out of system* Pyramid Raaaaaage! Ash, stop bragging, geez! *feels odd seeing an SUV in Pokemon for some reason* Hello, Kanto map. Brandon's seen Paul before? o.o ...I don't think the challenger is allowed to make the rules, and even if those were the conditions, you would still need a referee. Oh, he was with Reggie. ...That's the reason? Ouch. Never underestimate a legend. Ash knows movepools? Ooo, good one, Brandon. That's what you get for not having someone regulate the battle. Switches away. That was most intriguing. I wonder if Ash can show Paul his inner strength one day. I guess only the league will tell us.

EDIT: You know what I just realized? Paul's motivation is EXACTLY the same as Silver's. I don't think the writers realized the parallel, though.

I'm not going to lie. That was a pretty sweet episode. It's cool to see more development for Paul. We (almost) all hate him as a person, but you have to admit that Paul is one of the best characters on the show.

It's cool to see him get curb-stomped, but it makes me wonder how Ash ever managed to beat Brandon. Even with Charizard, which I can only assume he used (that episode aired just a short while before I started watching the show again, and I haven't gotten that far yet in the old episodes.)

One thing though - a flying pyramid? Really?!

For an odd moment when Paul lost, I thought I was actually going to cry. o_o It was the music. I blame the sad background music.

But this was probably one of my favorite Sinnoh episodes. Oh nostalgia with the Battle Pyramid. 8D

Flying Pyramid! Made me think of Stargate SG-1 for a bit. Anyway, I liked seeing Paul battle here. Good to know why it is that he is so hard on his Pokemon as well. He is really a "love to hate" kind of person.

Best part of the episode: When Paul found out that Ash won against Brandon and got a symbol. He was all like:

Best.Face.Evar.

Character development on Paul's part is also awesome. You can see he was kinda excited about seeing his bro battling Brandon (I might be imagining this, but is that a slight smile I see?); but after his brother failed to live up to his expectations, I guess that's when it all went downhill.

His battle against Brandon started okay, he was atleast attemting to use some strategy, but after he realized "I'm screwed" he just gave up...sad.

If you think about it, those were the pokemon he was going to used against candice. I suppose he was a little unprepared.

So when he fights against Ash, it's no longer with apathy and annoyance, it's with RAGE...and total attentive-ness. He sees Ash as a threat now (YEEESS!!).

And who says this eppie was anit-coma? Psshhhh XD

SAME HERE! *phew* I thought I was the only one. I probably wouldn't have felt so sorry for him if it weren't fer that darn music.

Loving the Snowpoint arc. Look at all this continuity and intermingling storylines and recurring characters and awesomeness. It's episodes like this that prove how far this show has come.

SAMUEL! 8DDDDDDDDD My inspiration.
I love Samuel too for no reason. <3 And Brandon called him "Sam", yay!

-Oh my god. I don't think I noticed. Did they stop the "To be continued" thing before this? o_O
What do you mean? it's still there. :P Just smaller and not in all caps.

Dawn's just a-whippin' out the Pokédex right and left today!

So this is the second time Paul is going through Sinnoh? I wonder why? Does one have to obtain eight more badges if they want to re-challange the league?

I was pretty impressed that Ashy-boy could beat Brandon whereas Paul simply couldn't progress at all... until I remember Ash's fainl Battle Pyramid attempt was horrific in that Brandon only used one Regi- the one he had just caught days before- that Pikachu somehow OHKO'd and that Ash resorted back to those overrated Kanto starters, who really should not be as strong as they are made out to be (although i enjoyed seeing Charizaard getting his ass handed to him a short time into the battle, if only to say "Finally!")

Ash vs. Candice, Paul vs. Brandon, Zoey vs. Candice, Ash vs. Paul, Paul vs. Candice... Who isn't going to battle who by the time we get out of Snowpoint? :D So is Zoey and Candice's random battle just an excuse to cut down on the number of characters appearing on-screen?

Ten days, Reggie? That seems a long time...

Oh! And obligatory "why is Brandon not their daddy!?" complaint. ;P

Mikoto = Maria. Aha, reasonable, but I was wondering why suddenly The Sound of Music came to mind...

As someone who watched that episode subbed... like, a lot, I'm quite pleased with how well-retained the script was. And gee, yeah, I don't think I need to say how I felt about the episode because ahahaha... yes.

Also happy that the music that played when Paul sent Magmar out for the last time was retained, because it made me a little sad too, and I was one who was delightfully enjoying how badly his ass got kicked.

Pfff, I just updated with a chapter like two days ago and I already want to start writing again. Which sucks because I wouldn't be getting to adapt this episode for another five chapters. XD But I'm overall just glad I don't have to wait for this episode's dub anymore. It was just about as brutal as waiting for the episode period earlier this spring!

Paul really got housed. You know you're not in a good place when Ash can predict your moves. At the end Paul was totally running on his emotions. It was pretty lol when Magmar flinched, a little karmic considering he did the same thing to Chimchar in one of his last battles with Ash.

It was good to see the background and motivation behind Paul. It kind of makes me think that if there ever is a conclusion to Paul's story, it will have to involve a rematch with Brandon.

One of the few pieces of background music kept in the dub...

There was also some Deoxys movie music and some from the (Japanese) Mewtwo movie. I missed parts of the episodes so I don't remember what other Japanese music was used.

Xd those were the only pieces kept. PUSA rescored the whole battle almost. Darn pokedex theme.

It was entertaining to see Paul get owned by Brandon, but I think the battle was a good lesson for him. The episode also had its share of funny moments.
Overall score: 7/10

I know, right? It was like, "eee, nickname!" Yay for being the most prolific-assistant-we-got-who-isn't-Tracey! ...*not even gonna mention what she ended up writing due to this episode when it first came out* ;;;

What do you mean? it's still there. :P Just smaller and not in all caps.
Proving I stopped paying attention to the ends of the episode. 8D

I don't think that' what he meant. I think /for/ the journey he would have taken in Sinnoh, he started in Kanto instead. Because we do know he didn't do Sinnoh before now.

I had already watched the episode RAW beforehand... but yeah.

Anyway, some of the awesome music was removed, but I was glad they kept the sad one when Paul lost. This episode was great! In all honesty, I did feel sorry for Paul the first time and I did here. If he wasn't so emotional, he could've defeated at least one of the Regis, imo.

Oh, and Brandon's random 'NOOOO!' makes me giggle for some reason.
