Another weekend, another hour wait...

I hope it's not a painful hour before Lilypad's Contest...

And look! It's in the main thread.

More all Japanese music!

We've got another DP136/DP142 as far as BGM goes. Everything left as is, including the title screen.

I love how Carnivine is just owning Mamoswine. :-D You need to work on its temper Dawn.

Must the episodes be aired so early? I actually had a chance to watch them on WB.

Looks like I have to wait for a CN upload.

Well, the episode was ok enough. It's nice that Jessie has three ribbons and all... but some of those dub lines were horrible. Happy to be alive? The things I have to do to keep the peace? Shessh. Kojiro wasn't exactly the happiest guy about this either, but he didn't go that far. So much for doing this because he felt sorry for her. :/

Is it that much of an issue? How exact do the lines need to be in order to please one such as yourself?

All I want is for James and Meowth not to act like Jessie will hurt them if they don't do this. I mean geez, is acting like they care about their friend so much to ask? I know it's nothing new with the dub, but it bugs me in an episode like this one.

The only thing I noticed in the dub that was weird for me was ramen being called 'noodle soup', but only because I think of 'chicken noodle soup' when I hear the phrase. xD I know it's not bad or really even wrong, the phrase just makes me think of 'chicken noodle soup'. :p

Got to watch this episode at home on the HD TV, which was nice. And my offsite blog post is here.

Why do you use Japanese names for the twerps and dub names for Team Rocket and Ash? o_O That's like... creating a paradox or something.

Older characters, like Ash, Jessie, James, Brock, etc., I refer to by dub names because that's what I'm used. I refer to newer characters, such as Hikari and Kotone, by Japanese names because that's what I'm used to for them. It's whichever name I learned first that I remember them by in most cases, so characters like Ash and TR I first 'met' them by their dub names, while characters like Hikari and Kotone I 'met' them first under their Japanese names. Pokémon names change depending on the moment though. Like "Manmoo" instead of "Mamoswine" cause of it having less key strokes. xD

And how exactly would that be a paradox? :/ I mean, I know the characters have slightly different lines (okay, some lines get mangled, but in general, most lines are pretty much the same), so they're really not different characters. It's a translation, not a re-written story. It's not like Sailor Moon's dub where they mangle the story too. >_> The only difference between "Ash" and "Satoshi" is the language spoken. They may be slightly different, but it's not that big of a difference to say they're completely different people (at least for me anyways).

What a great contest! I watched a sub of this episode right before the dub and it was interesting to compare the two. I found the lack of Rocket rewrites and alliterations refreshing, but otherwise they were mostly the same.

Anyway, I liked how Brock explained contests to Khoury and Lyra - although it doesn't quite make sense seeing as there are contests in Johto in the anime universe. I guess there's not really much need to follow contests if you're focusing on Gym Battling/breeding, though. So their ignorance would be understandable.

The throwback to DP117 was nice. Continuity rocks.

Did anyone else find it a little strange that Meowth had his own seat in the audience?

Looks like Meowth is determined to come through with his promise to help win the next ribbon. Lol at the fact that James is more likeable than the real thing. Overkill attack much, Dawn? James is clever to take the Ice Ball to prevent the powerup, and we see something perhaps even worse than when Charizard disobeyed. This allows James to win the ribbon, but Jessie is determined to become as loved as when James did it. Dawn has come a long way since her two losses in the middle of Sinnoh. Pretty good ep.

I find it strange that nobody noticed Meowth talking in the audience when James was completely dominating the contest battle agianst Dawn.
And yes, I also find it weird that Ash and co. don't notice James and Meowth in the audience, undisguised, every time they go to a contest.

I noticed that at the end of this episode they played some of the ending song "Glory Day" is that the first time they've used it?

Overall liked this episode more then I expected even though Lyra and Koreuy (or however you spell it) were pretty annoying over having no idea how contests work and it was probably just put in so the episode could go on for 22 minutes.

That's not from Glory Day. It's the instrumental version of a song called Tomodachi Kinenbi! from the 3rd Pikachu Short. And yes, it has been kept in the Dub before.

Also, the track used right after the battle between Mamoswine and Carnivine is an instrumental version of Taiju to Nakamatachi from the 2nd Pikachu short.

That's probably because they sit far away from each other, hard to notice someone all the way across the arena.

I think it's because that Jessie would be disqualified from contests since she's part of Team Rocket, or probably just from "pretending" to be someone else, it would probably cause an unneeded reaction if anyone found out Jesselina and Jessie are the same person.

Now in the Palmer episode someone said that Grotle eating Energy ball, should have been called "Overgrow" and I said it made no sense giving what happens in a future event, well this is the event. Mamoswine doesn't have an "overgrow" type ability for ice types, so saying that it was Overgrow in the Palmer episode disregards what happened in this episode.

I like the original music, once again. They need to keep that up.

Also, Meowth said "bling." And Jessie said "I demand a recount," which is interesting because that was said ten years ago (God I feel old), before most of the audience was even born. I wonder if the dubbers do those sorts of things for themselves, or for the older fans?
