BW37 - A Fishing Connoisseur in a Fishy Competition!http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/BW037

Continuing to Nimbasa City in the hopes of getting his next gym badge, Ash as well as his friends encounter Bianca who is in a hurry. Bianca pulls out a flier for a local fishing tournament and explains that she came a long way in order to try fishing for the first time. Ash and Iris both decide to join too when Cilan suddenly shows incredibly passion for the hobby! Who will win the fishing tournament and its prize of the golden fishing rod?

JJM "Unova is ours! And we did it all for the boss!"

Thank god! I was worried they were going to alliterate again....

Nice to see James putting emphasis on "thrusting" in the motto again.

Oh thank goodness! They changed the dialogue so that Ash isn't surprised to see Yamask.

Generally good episode.

I was hoping the whole time though that TR could be at least a little successful--they could've gotten away with one or two pokemon that they kept in their pockets or something. (As essentially these were all wild pokemon legitimately caught.) Maybe this could be an anime head-canon type of thing.

Frillish releasing other pokemon--I didn't like that bit.

I liked Bianca here. Cilan too, and Iris.

Oh! And I LOVED Goku-Pansage!

I am just so unsure about this episode! All because its the skipped one, so lots of the things in it doesn't make sense! Its the odd one out |D

HILBERT CAMEO

Yet again, I can only comment on Cilan's antics, as well as Bianca. This is otherwise just a formulaic episode. Would it have made more impact if this was the introduction of Cilan's rod as it was intended? Not by much. :p

Cilan talks about his 'hammer of justice.' ...That sounds so sexual, the writers must have done it on purpose. But it's good to know Cilan didn't sexually harass the Rockets as a way of dealing with them. Too bad the same can't be said for who knows how many others.

How Iris fishes: She takes off her pants and grabs the big thing with her hands.

So according to Pokemon.com, this episode takes place...at a lake?

But don't you see? That just shows how competent they are!! They aren't willing to settle for one or two pokemon; they go for all or nothing!!

HILBERT CAMEO

I think that's just wishful thinking on your part. The image is way, way too small for us to be sure one way or another.

Hat. Brown hair. Blue jacket with bag on. Pants are the same, only brown instead of black/grey. How can that not be Hilbert?

Lots of people wear similar clothes and we don't even know if it's a boy or a girl. So, no, I doubt it's Hilbert at all. Plus, the hair could be different, the pants are different, those are brown in the episode.

I'm at least glad the English dub managed to make sure continuity wasn't in question. I feel bad that Cilan didn't get to keep his Basculin (stupid touchy-feely Frillish). One thing though: when Bianca was wondering what Yamask was, why didn't she use her own Pokedex? She did when they encountered Frillish. Ah well, it's nothing major. All in all, not a bad episode.

Personally, I think it would have made more sense if the animators had redrawn the Pokedex scene to have Bianca be the one to scan Yamask instead of Ash.

So you think that it's a complete coincidence that the animators just happened to draw someone with the same clothes, body, height and hair(the hair can be properly seen in the episode, not the picture) without Hilbert's design crossing their minds? I doubt that they scribbled the guy randomly without any thought of Hilbert's design clothes. I mean come on, THE BACK IS EXACTLY THE SAME(except for the brown colour of the pants instead of the normal black).

I remember people dreading the possibility of the return of the Misty lure in this episode. Thank goodness for BW's lack of past references!

The Cilan lure was awesome. Now that is a fishermen.

I just had a closer look and the back of the hat is a grey, light blue colour, his hair is blueish, his pants are brown and his bag is white. It isn't him. Black/Hilbert did not appear in this episode.

I loved Cilan in this episode, though Frillish was a bit random. And I would've liked Cilan with Basculin, oh well.

Did anyone think the episode title was a little higher than usual? Also, why did Ash scan Yamask with his Pokedex after it has been appearing for over 10 episodes?

The dub did a great job changing the dialogue to cover up how old this episode is. The jet pack part and dexing Yamask in general still come off as odd, but it wasn't as blatantly obvious as the Japanese version made it.

As for the episode itself, it was a lot of fun. Cilan was awesome, as usual. It was also nice seeing the Rockets again. And Frillish is just plain awesome. :-D

Because this episode was supposed to air right after the last gym.

I find it interesting that this ep was postponed at all. I wonder if the Tsunami hit America, and Pokemon was a American fanchise if it would have been postponed?

Anyway, a solid ep. I liked Cilan's characterization as a fisherman. I liked when Iris wading into the water to just grab a Basculine. {Someone clearly wasn't paying attention to what Ash's Pokedex said on the fish...} Bianca was sweet, and Ash was funny.

By the way writers, if this ep is any indication, WE WANT MOAR PANSAGE!

Y U NO GIVE IT TO US?

It was a pretty good episode, as well as being a confusing one.

Let me start with the confusing part. Cilan's map shows that they are not even close to the desert to Nimbasa, one they've been traveling on for eternity. Is this in Castelia?

Cilan was great in this episode. He was funny, as always.

I loved to see Bianca come back. She is just really interesting.

Iris was also great. I love her technique for fishing.

I did see the Hilbert cameo. It looks an awful lot like him.

Like always, Ash & co still didn't recognize the TRio.

I agree that the Frillish was pretty random. I seriously wanted Cilan to have Basculin.
