BW044 - Purrloin: Sweet or Sneaky?

Ash and friends are continuing their journey to Nimbasa City (along with adversary-turned-travelling companion Meowth) when they encounter a Purrloin fleeing from a flock of angry Tranquill. Meowth and Oshawott immediately fall head-over-heels in love with the Devious pokemon and vow to assist and protect it, but Cilan, who believes that all Purrloin are deeply unpleasant monsters, is nothing less than horrified. Is this cuddly-looking feline the innocent sweetie that most of the gang have pegged it for, or is it harbouring more sinister intentions?

Heh, this episode was handled really well. Though, it doesn't really answer whether or not a Pokemon can be gay, as Purrloin seem to be generally considering both Meowth and Oshawott towards the end. Meowth and Oshawotts rivalry was entertaining to watch, though the way Purrloin walks on two legs seemed creepy as hell to me. I know a lot of people didn't really care for the way the quicksand was animated, but I thought it was a pretty well directed scene, with everyone being swallowed up.

Iris and Cilan's banter about Purrloin was enjoyable too.

I loved the episode. The quicksand part seemed rather out there, but I could easily ignore it.

The best part came at the end when Purrloin revealed that it was really male. I always figured that Pokemon could likely tell the differences between gender due to scents and such, but this shows it not the case.

Surprised they didn't censor the part about Purrloin being male. Haha, best twist of the eppy :p

This episode was the best in a while.

Cilan never told us about his experience with a Purrloin. What's up?

I loved how Oshy and Meowth were all fighting for Purrloin only to realize that Purrloin was a male. Best twist ending in any Pokemon episode that I've seen. I wonder what Purrloin was thinking when the two were fighting, he'd be all like, "They DO know that I'm not a girl."

I think that the lady and the quicksand were just random, but at least the girl provided Purrloin's backstory.

The TRuo part was epic. Very stealthily.

Not much to say about it, but it's good overall. Can't wait for next week's Beheeyem episode.

EDIT: I forgot to add that I saw the ad for the movie next Saturday. I'm SO
gonna watch it.

I liked this episode, though I'd really love to know what a Purrloin did to Cilan to give him the jibblies.

To quote Goku in DBZ Abridged: "Haha! That thing was a guy!"

purrloin had a odd voice. guess cuz it its based on a cat and had to carry out the -urr in its name. Cilan commenting negitivly every time that Iris said something positive was hilarious. cuz most of the time its Iris saying somthing negitive and Cilan something positive.

Why would TPCI do that? This was an important part of the episode. Every thing that Meowth and Oshawott did in this episode was all because they assumed Purrloin was a girl.

I thought Purrloin's voice was rather good; it sounded more animal-ish than many (or at least some) dub Pokemon voices.

Too bad we didin't find out what Cilan's deal with Purrloin was. I started to think maybe it had something to do with Meowth and Oshawott's disappointments with the one they met, but I now I seriously doubt it.

If they had done that, I'd have been really upset. The entire episode pretty much hinges upon the twist that Purrloin is a boy.

Didn't Pikachu and Piplup get attracted to eachother in one episode? It's different because it was magnetism or something, but still, kind of similar? Either way could be evidence that Pokemon can be attracted to the same gender.

THIS
Loved the episode, omygosh Purrloin is so cute, probably in my top 3 favorite Unova Pokemon now.

I really liked Purrloin's voice, oddly enough. I found it very suitable. Speaking with smooth-talking purrs must be tricky.

And holy hell, I really do want to find out what Cilan's bad experience with Purrloin is. I feel like this is the first time he's really been notably shaken out of his usual awesome demeanor, and that was fun. I'm sure down the road that will be explained. The perfect plot twist would be Burgundy showing up with a Purrloin of her own. >:3

Meowth's really making up for a lot of the dead air in the trio. I never thought the BW trio had a good group mechanic because the one weak line breaks the flow, but with Meowth around it really helps make the group more interesting... Iris aside. She was pretty much the Tracey of the group here. Sadly, I think I'll have to prefer her that way. It sounds like they altered the line about Purrloin supposedly making her a better Dragon Master (which makes no fucking sense) to "I'm a Dragon Master, so I'll definitely be able to raise you well!", unless I'm missing something here.

Here is where I'm really starting to miss the pun-tastic episode titles, though. I think we all know the true title for this episode should've been "It's a Trap!"

Cute episode, I love the design of Purrloin. It is one of my favorites of Gen 5. I wish Cilan told the reason why he is so frightened of Purrloin, it must be quite a story. It is kind of annoying when characters don't explain themselves properly.

Meowth is so cute with Ash and his friends. I have gotten used to him being with them already.

Yes, please. That would be amazing. :3

The way Misha revealed that Purrloin was a boy made me smile so much. Cilan had some fantastic lines about Purrloin, too... I wish this bizarre distrust of Purrloin would be explained once Chili and Cress show up again. Maybe Ash can press them for information? ;)

This is Meowth at his best, though. This episode and last weeks totally changed my opinion of him for the better. Now I can't wait to see Ingo and Emmet next week (even if it's not much screentime)!! Can't wait to here their dub voices...

We can only hope.^^

For the record, I thought that Choroneko's voice was quite a bit cuter than Purrloin's, though the latter still had one of the more unique and interesting-sounding dub voices. This Purrloin (I call him Dill, for reasons which, if you don't know all there is to know about this game, then I'm crying) is so hilarious and adorable that it makes me regret that he's so blatantly only going to be in this one episode. :p

Good episode, definitely one of the better picks for BW.

One of my favourite episodes in BW so far, very pleasantly surprised. I was originally annoyed when I discovered Oshawott would have yet another focus episode, but I suppose he hasn't appeared for some time, (Swadloon has been absent even longer, but who really cares about him?) and watching him clash with Meowth over Purrloin was hilarious, as was the twist ending.

I'm very intrigued to discover what happened to make Cilan so terrified of Purrloin. Maybe it's why he was so desperate to leave Striaton City, with so many Purrloins living nearby? (Could that also explain why he seems like a nervous wreck in the game?)

How did Ash manage to free his arms to release Snivy when his arms were stuck in quicksand a moment ago? Ah, never mind. I need to stop looking into stuff too much.

talk aabout piece of shit, this episode was very very boring, more over the animation was very cheep at some points, and meowth WAS HORRIBLY drawn.

and WTF a pokemon wants to go on date with other pokemon,AND THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW WHETHER ITS A MALE OR A FEMALE !?? actually this is like an insulting from the writers, they think that those who are watching the anime are dumb asses.

Meh, average dub is average. Misha's dub voice sounded like a really bad version of Sakura from Nelvana's dub of Cardcaptor Sakura. Choroneko's dub voice on the other hand sounded better than the Japanese version, IMO. Much more realistic and animal-sounding. Once again the dubbers replaced the music-box song that played when Meowth was crying in the beginning. It's actually one of my favorite non-video game Best Wishes pieces so not hearing it in the dub is a real shame. :-(

Awesome episode! I can only hope this is a sign that BW is slowly but surely getting better. It was the second episode with Meowth and again, I can't think of anything to criticize.

The plot had interesting twists, very funny and entertaining moments, especially Meowth and Oshawott's battle over who gets to date Purrloin, and action-packed scenes (Ash and Meowth sinking in the quicksand and being close to suffocation. When was the last time we got to see things like this?)
Also, Cilan's distrust, Team Rocket's continuation of their mission and above all, Misha and Purrloin's background story were either exciting or very profound. For some reason I was fascinated by that idea how much confusion a simple accident can cause and that it ultimately threatened to destroy the trusting relationship between trainer and Pokemon.

But, of course, by far the best and one of THE most hilarious twist endings I've ever seen in Pokemon was when Purrloin's true gender was revealed. Oh God, the expressions on the Pokemon's faces were simply priceless! It's been a while since a Pokemon episode last could surpise me and crack me up so much. Great job!
And don't you think this scene bears a striking resemblance to when Anabel revealed to Ash that she was a girl?

Speaking of Ash, I was expecting him to be all clueless about what was going on with Meowth and Oshawott once again. Can it really be that he's starting to learn what love is? Impossible!
I guess this video sums up today's episode perfectly

Anyways, a really awesome episode with a fantastic ending!

A fun episode.

I'm just surprised they actually kept the joke.

They could have easily changed it to "but purrloin already has a boyfriend" or something like that.
