Is Metang from the Safari Zone the most difficult Pokémon to obtain through normal gameplay in Gen 4? First of all, you gotta figure out how the weird Safari Zone building mechanics even work (I still don't get it) after beating the League. Then modify the appropriate area so Metang will even have a chance to show up, which includes waiting an actual month to gain enough points or whatever.
Okay, now Metang can appear in my area finally with a whopping 10% encounter rate. This wouldn't be such an issue if Metang didn't have the lowest possible catch rate of all Pokémon on par with the strongest Legendaries. Except with those you can simply throw your Master Ball or at least Ultra Balls or Dusk Balls to increase the rate more than the measly 1,5x modifier of the Park Balls. Oh yeah, and they don't RUN AWAY either. Even the ones that do can be trapped somehow or have tricks to encounter them consistently. With Metang, there's nothing you can do except play the numbers game and hunt it down over and over with the same 10% chance, then get in one or two balls if you're lucky before it disappears again. Back to the beginning.
There's an argument for Feebas being the hardest Pokémon to catch in Gen 4. However, in that case there's a method to the madness and once you encounter it it's a piece of cake to make the capture. Metang is just pure madness and blind luck the whole way to the end after jumping through the obscure HGSS Safari Zone hoops. What do you think? I'll update once I finally catch Metang.
