What are you're opinions on it?

Personally I love the last arc because it was funny yet it had a really great story line :D And the original because it was start of the Anime and more.

There was another thread for this some time back... don't know if it'd qualify as "dead" or not though.

Anyhow...

I liked the show a lot, and I watched it religiously. My favorite arc is the second half of R, the one with the Dark Moon family.

I got enticed with Sailor Moon back in '95 (when it was actually brought here, I believe) through the ultra-obscure doll commercials. And I had a hell of a time actually finding it on TV, but I had satellite so I managed to pick it up on some really weird channels before it migrated to USA and later Cartoon Network. By the time I was internet-capable I was totally obsessed and was kinda amazed with all of the stuff that was going on with the series in Japan. I also fondly remember all of the total BS rumors and misinformation we had to sit through until all of the episodes became widely available~ because we were still well within the 56k days of internet when I was hardcore-researching the show, so downloading pretty much everything was a pain. I still have some of those teeny-tiny ultra-grainy MOVs from the lucky sumbitches who had access to the Japanese episodes and a video recorder.

Still, Sailor Moon was a major mark on my fandom life, pretty much initiated my life into anime, and it's even a fun little show to go back to now and then. The manga I didn't care for as much, though it made Mamoru and Chibiusa much more likable characters than they are in the anime, plus the plots were usually more epic-scaled, but at the same time the villains utterly sucked in the manga.

My favorite seasons were the first and final ones. The first was when things were fresh and new, Mamoru had a personality, and the show wasn't quite as formulaic as it eventually became by the time S and SuperS rolled around. The last season just had epic written all over it. I love watching the final four episodes over and over again. Great sources of inspiration. I liked R too, since it was also not so blatantly "character of the day has a problem, Senshi help, some weird object gets sucked out of them by villain, Senshi save the day"... of course, it was like that in Sailor Stars too, but I think they went about it better in that season than they did in S and SuperS.

S was annoying in that aspect but introduced the Outer Senshi, who I liked alright... though I liked Pluto and Saturn more than Uranus and Neptune, and of course the latter were much more featured than the former. Villains (outside of Professor Tomoe, who is definitely in my Top Three favorite SM villains of all time) weren't quite as endearing as the ones in the past, so it was kinda meh at the same time. And for some reason the animation style of S and SuperS bugged me.

SuperS was... uh. Very hard for me to watch. It almost felt like every episode in that series was filler. Probably because I didn't care about the plot or that Chibiusa had an awkward romance with a horse (like we really needed that after the finished crushing on her dad).

Still, ah. My favorite character initially was Sailor Mercury, and I still hold her in high regard today. I think my favorite's more like Sailor Venus now. And like I said, really liked Pluto and Saturn, and if Jupiter got more development, I would've liked her a lot more too. PGSM, that live action series? Also really awesome. Introduced aspects to the characters that we didn't get to see before, like Dark Mercury, Naru being jealous about Usagi's new friends, Minako being ultra-super-serious, and Rei being more like her superior manga personality...

I was also kind of a dork and loved the toy wands and brooches. And if I had money to blow, I'd be totally collecting them all right now.

I could talk about this show for ages, you realize. I know it definitely had its flaws, but it's a childhood relic of mine and it is genuinely a good series. It certainly fared better than DBZ did when Naoko Takeuchi was asked to make more stories after she meant to end it.

Yea I found SuperS funny but not the Whole "Rini" Horse love thing.. But I loved how the other charaters would go all nuts of Sailor Moon at times :D it was funny mostly the SS and final arcs

I was thinking about it as I was reading this, and I couldn't help but compare the appeal of the Sailor Moon series to that of the original 1960s Spider-Man cartoon. Both can be easily criticized for various reasons, yet both have a certain nostalgic, endearing charm about them.

I love the whole series from beginning to end. I just wish Sailor Saturn got more screen time... And an onscreen transformation.

Plus, Pegasus wasn't a real horse...

Besides, it's only logical that the one with the purest heart would have the most beautiful dream.

x.x;; Never thought I'd find I SM thread here.

Seconded about Sailor Saturn getting more screen time.

I second that wholeheartly.

Well, I know that. But that really did not make the imagery of Chibiusa kissing a horse any less awkward. It was also a lot worse in the dub where Helios sounded like a 40 year-old man... so a horse having that voice plus that... eeeeyeah. Outside of the disturbing stuff, it was really kind of boring for me. Coming fresh off of S with Saturn (who I agree needed more time to shine in the anime) and the whole Apocalypse storyline into... OMG WHO HAS THE PUREST DREAM. OMG THE MOON KINGDOM SHUNNED US NO YOU ARE NOT HALLUCINATING AND RE-LIVING R'S VILLAINS' PLOT WE ARE THE DEAD MOON NOT THE BLACK MOON WE ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT... yeah. SuperS was a bit of a let-down for me. Plus, no Outer Senshi appearances at all. If it weren't for the tiny pieces of continuity that tie in from the first part of the Sailor Stars season, SuperS might as well have been completely AU. Mind you, though, the equivalent of the manga arc was handled alright to me.

Guess one thing to credit SuperS for is the fact that pretty much all of the secondary characters (Naru, etc.) had their last hurrah in the series before completely disappearing in Sailor Stars. That was also kind of why I preferred the older seasons... they made good use of their secondary cast before throwing everything away for the sake of weekly CotDs.

There was a SuperS special that had Haruka and Michiru. They were aware of the Dead Moon, but opted to leave them to Usagi and co. Plus, Setsuna was "dead" and Hotaru was still a baby.

The SuperS movie had Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, but I'm more inclined to believe that was AU, because when Pluto returned in Sailor Stars, everyone was suprised to see her back, despite having just seen her.

Given Naru's skill of being a youma magnet, I wonder what sort of phage she would've turned into?

Yeah, I remember finding that special years ago... plus the one where Usagi recaps the entire series for Chibiusa up to that point. While it's nice they gave us a "reason" why there were no Outer Senshi appearances in the actual SuperS series, it still left the series in a pretty crappy state, as it essentially became the S series all over again, only without the epic plot and the Senshi rivalry to spice things up. Instead we got a much less exciting plot and the same tired CotD formula with very little to spice it up. Admittedly I'm a little torn about how they could have successfully taken up what the manga was doing with the Outers at the same point in time considering the vast amount of plot differences that went on. The family thing with Hotaru was cute, but I really liked Professor Tomoe as a character (Galaxia aside, I consider him my favorite villain) and liked him surviving in the anime. Though one of my qualms about Sailor Stars was Setsuna's "takin ur baby kthxbai" re-appearance, but regardless...

Oh yeah, there's no way she could have escaped that. Sailor Youma Magnet? Well, that wouldn't be threatening at all, would it...

Even when Professor Tomoe was possesed by Germatoid, he knew that Hotaru was Saturn. Granted that he lost most of his memories at the end of the S arc, maybe that feeling lingered and he knew his baby was destined for greater things.

Yeah, I wish. That would be kinda cool. Or maybe a reunion episode. With all the Sailor Scouts and all their allies. Maybe place it 10 years in the future.

I always imagined a new series set in Crystal Tokyo with Chibiusa grown up and being the new Sailor Moon with Saturn and the Asteroid Senshi making up her team.

That would be even better. But, would they call upon the older scouts for help?

True, it could be that if they gave that scene a little more time. Though it's kind of sad when you think about it, considering Hotaru's rapid aging and rebirth as Sailor Saturn was all just part of an elaborate ruse by Galaxia so she wouldn't have to wait an extra decade or so to get Hotaru's Starseed. XD If only he knew what exactly he would be sending his baby into...

People say that the dub changing Haruka and Michiru to cousins was useless, because people could tell otherwise. After watching the series (Season 3 in particular) repeatedly, they really don't do anything over the top. They never kissed, hugged or held hands, so what are people watching the dub going by?
