Sandslash seems the most balanced of the 3. Not week to Ground like Sudowoodo, but with balanced physical stats like Sudowoodo. He also has Counter. I'm inclined to think he'd come out with the most wins in a battle of variants, tested each 100 times.

Sandslash, can't beat those spikes, and not a bad movepool.

Of the three, I've always liked Sandshrew's design the best by far. And as it's the only one I've used in enough battles to vouch for its abilities, I'm going to have to give it my vote.

Dugtrio. Because they're moles with clown noses. That make them look awesome.
