Note: Before reading!

This will be a story based on a Nuzlocke I'm doing of Randomized Emerald. It's an experimental project; I don't expect it to turn into anything major. I mostly did this to experiment with character archetypes and see how good a team I can make with limited resources. I made the rules a bit more strict, mostly to encourage me to stick to it.

I should note that my default way of writing involves a lot of comedy and general hamminess. The story shall be told from the perspective of the heroine, who unfortunately, is as hammy and clueless as can be. I like comments, so don't be afraid to give me some advise on how to make it better. And yes, you are supposed to hate the main character.

Nuzlocke Rules!

1) If it faints, it's dead!
2) I can only catch the first encounter of each route. No exceptions!
3) No healing items!
4) I can only have one Pokemon of each type at all times! If I repeat one, I must put it in the PC!
5) I must promise to adhere to all the rules specified by the Royal Commitee of the Kingdom of Bulbagarden! Anything less means death!

Bonus Rule:

7) All Pokemon must be nicknamed after singers, musicians, composers and anyone who is affiliated with the music industry! All chapters must have the title of a song and I must find a way to squeeze in the title into the actual chapter! Failure to do so (or forgetting) results in having to get rid of one Pokemon! (chosen by the readers) Keep an eye out for the reference and scold me if I neglect to put it in!
8) I can only catch Pokemon that have not evolved!
9) I must post a new Chapter every Friday. If I miss a date, I must post two chapters at the same time.
10) SMILES GO FOR MILES! At times of extreme sorrow, I must never ever show weakness! I must remain giddy! I must stay in-character at all times following this sentence!

Prologue - Slow and Steady

The Hoenn region. The land of sapphire blue placid oceans, ruby red sunsets and emerald reen grasses as far as your eyes can see. Oh, the booming land where oceans and skies meet in a sudden tender embrace! The land where the horizon gently nudges the mountain and hints at a possible rebirth of the majestic earth on which it is set. From the rumbling inner fire of the great Mount Chimney, to the bustling metropolis of Slateport, to the small and humble small ocean towns out East, it's truly a magnificent place. Is it a coincidence that out of all the regions in the world, this is where our story takes place? Perhaps it is mere coincidence...Or is it divine intervetion?

You might as well recognize and give credit where credit is due. The great god Rayquaza was truly having a good day when the wonderful Hoenn region was made!

Our story spans many moons, many suns, many cycles. It is a tale of fury, of sorrow, of betrayal and pure undying hatred for Tentacools...Yet overall, it is a tale of triumph against the odds and a tale that should be remembered for generations to come.

Now, you may be asking yourself exactly what this adventure entails and who is the amazing protagonist of this tale.

Why, it is none other than Sapphire Lastnameowtiz!

Who is this person you ask?

Of course, I am the mighty, bodacious, exotic, clever (and modest!) Miss Sapphire!

Perhaps I should explain things from the very beginning so I don't leave the slow-minded ones behind.

As I already mentioned earlier, I am Sapphire Lastnameowtiz, daughter of the world-known Normal-type master, Norman Lastnameowitz! This tale has a lot to do with that; if not for his sudden move, this story would have never existed. Hooray for my father getting fired and forced to move to Hoenn in order to work at a lower-income job! Is it not glorious?

On second thought, let's skip the celebrations and go to the explanations.

After he was fired, he was able to find a stable job in Petalburg, of all places. Petalburg is easily one of the most expensive cities in all of the region, so I have no idea why he did that. My father had already lived there for a few months in order to meet the League's standards, but we had stayed in Johto in order to pack up or get rid of our last few things. You may be asking where he rested his head in-between shifts if we weren't there and if Petalburg was so ridiculously expensive. The answer is simple: He didn't. Yes, it's unfortunate, but my family scraped the very bottom of the money barrel for the tickets to get him there. Let's just say that my father ended up with a newfound appreciation of winter coats and cardboard.

A few months after he settled down there, he got enough money to get us tickets to permanently reside there with him too.

I didn't know much about Hoenn, but I knew some things from watching a documentary on it. Still, at that moment, I was ecstatic. I couldn't say I would miss Olivine City; it had always irked me with all the Tentacools swimming by and stinging every passerby. The hustle and bustle bored me and the stench of old forgotten Muk living below our house was slowly burning my nostrils to cinders. I didn't know absolutely anything about which town we were going to live in, though. Still, anything was better than Tentacools. Did I mention the Tentacools? I really hate the Tentacools, they're so slimy and disgusting...Ugh. They're like a plague. Any town was good if it didn't have any Tentacools.

Bottom line: Tentacools are evil things that must be eliminated at all costs.

Anyhow, back to the story. After buying First Class tickets in order to satisfy my mother's fancy tastes, we realized that we couldn't possibly afford to lose anything in the move.

So I, being a complete idiot, volunteered to supervise the plates. I meant that I would look over them and place them in bubblewrap before we put them in the truck, but my mother had a "better" idea.

I ended up being shoved in the truck with the fine chinas and and fragile vases. No, I did not get a thanks afterwards. That was just salt in the wound.

The truck was not a homely place. The walls were damp and cold; the floor was oddly slimy and smelt of old furniture. I didn't even want to begin to think of what substance I was touching when I accidentally placed my hand on the floor, but I tried to ignore it and explore the inside. It was very dark, but a small ray of light shone in from small dents in the sides and top. The truck almost had a steady beat. The pots made a loud clang noise every time they met metal-to-metal, the driver's old radio was singing cheap 80s music, the bobbleheads were doing their "bobbing" and my alarm clock was ringing like the Apocalypse was upon us. It was like a symphony for mildly tone-deaf people. It made an alright soundtrack, so I decided to use it to my advantage and start an adventure inside the truck. I started by searching for something to read. I took my sweet time and tried to read the instructions to a can-opener, but I fell down. I then tried to read the back of a shampoo bottle, but I fell down again. Frustrated, I grabbed onto a nearby box and tried to hold my ground while reading clothing tags, but once again, I fell down. Every time I tried to get up again, I kept falling down, so I gave up.

I sat there in complete silence, contemplating my revenge. Hours and hours passed; I was getting more and more impatient. The truck seemed to go across every single bump in the Hoenn region, and with every passing moment, I felt more desperate to escape. After a while, there was a change.

Gradually, I noticed we were losing speed. Curious, I looked around me for any sign of an opening. Nothing. I started to think I had finally gone insane from the constant clanging of the pots and pans, but the slower up and down movements of the bobbleheads' heads made me realise that there really was a difference in the rhythm of the truck.

It was an odd feeling; the new slow and steady pace of the truck made me believe that we were almost at our destination, but I couldn't really imagine what it could be. It could literally be anywhere in Hoenn. It didn't even have to be close to Petalburg. My mother had always been an oddball, knowing her she probably bought a house in the shape of a Skitty's head for the sake of a temporary joke that I would unfortunately have to explain to all the neighbours a million times.

I decided it was best to not think about that and laid back to take a short nap.

Before I could, the truck came to a sudden halt. I ended up getting flung forward and smashed my head on something, but to this day, I have no certainty about what it was. I think I must have hit myself with the kitchen sink or something similar.

My head felt like a waterfall; all my thoughts seemed to crash into the roaring sound and disappear into oblivion. I heard an old familiar voice, but I couldn't make it out.

"Sapphy, dear, why don't you come out of the truck? It's much more roomy out here." The voice said. It was feminine yet rough, kind of like frilly pink sandpaper that you're forced to drag across your skin over and over until you inevitably start bleeding.

It was mother dearest, obviously.

"Wow, you really pulled all the stops on this one, didn't you, Ma?" I said in a sarcastic tone while rubbing my head and not even bothering to look around. After being in there for so long, light really hurt my eyes.

"Yes, yes! Your father supplied most of the money; I just chose the location." She laughed heartily. "It's like a mansion!"

"It's a great one for sure!" I laughed as I looked at the house from the corner of my eye. It wasn't really a mansion, but it did look kind of cute, I'll admit that. The nice sepia-tiled roofs and white painted wooden walls made it look almost...welcoming. Every house surrounding out own looked similar. At the center of the town, there was a slightly larger building, but at the moment, I wasn't interested in it. A sign nearby called the town "Littleroot", and to be honest, I couldn't have given it a better name. The air smelt like fresh pine trees and the Sun was shining brightly, making the small town look even more beautiful. The nice chirping of Pidgeys and Taillows was very relaxing; the warm whisper of the wind quickly rushing from the forest path made me smile slightly.

I saw few people around; most were very quiet and spoke in an oddly polite way. Some were whispering, probably about me. I had no reason to care, but I almost wished I could become one of them and just live a laid-back life with no big events nearby.

Then I remembered something: I like big events. I frowned. Littleroot was picturesque, but very boring.

"Out of curiosity, where did you get the money?" I asked off-handedly while taking in the beautiful scenery around me.

"Your college fund, silly!" She said in a joyous exclamation.

I stared at her wide-eyed and dumbfounded, unable to process if she was just joking or not. "...What?" I managed to say.

She puffed-up her chest and rolled her eyes. "Let's be honest, Sapphy, you're not the smartest girl. You probably would have gone into Liberal Arts, and Dialga knows that there's too many scrawny hippies running around jobless these days." She explained with a creepy amount of indifference.

"MOM! YOU KNOW I WANTED TO GO INTO BATTLING SCIENCES!" I cried out in despair. "It'a a growing market! They're basically crying out for people that have doctorates in that!"

"Oh well. Look on the bright side, you can stay with me!" She said with what was now a really disturbing grin. I wanted to say something, but reasoning with her never really helped any causes.

I made it obvious that was not pleased in the slightest, but she just kept smiling like a Gengar. I actually felt my left eye twitch a little, out of both anger and disgust.

"...This is not a bright side, ma." I growled. "Unova has a market for certified battle experts!" I tried to explain before she told me to just leave the subject alone. I complained even more, but she was having none of it.

I'd continue on about my one-sided conversation with my mother, but it's not very relevant compared to what happened a few days afterwards.

I went straight to my room after my conversation with her, and we fought a bit.

Not that it matters.

She yelled about lots of things, my future, my attitude, my taste in clothing...

"AND WOULD YOU PLEASE STOP NARRATING TO YOURSELF?" She screamed out in a furious scream as she opened the door to my room and surprised me while I was writing this.

Pssht, as if I would ever do that. Oddly enough, a few seconds after I scoffed at her command, I felt a hard metal object hit the back of my head. As I lay there mumbling some words before finally passing out, I couldn't shake the feeling that everything on that day happened for a reason.
