Even though I don't expect this to happen in the slightest...what could it be like if the seventh generation anime was just Satoshi and Pikachu on an adventure with no companions. What types of episodes could the writing staff could create? Pokémon the Origin showed us with Red on a solo journey and what the XY series could've been if Serena, Eureka and Citron weren't around.

We could possibly get some deep character development with Satoshi. Maybe some complications arise that sever the friendship between Satoshi and Pikachu and they go their separate ways only to be reunited due to someone or something. Not saying they can't do that now but it just being Satoshi and Pikachu alone might bring more meaning to it.

I honestly would like to see something revolutionary or at very least different to the structure of the show. We already had the two or three traveling companions so...maybe having no companions this time around might work eh?.............

I dunno but anyways there ya go. :)

I think it would be better if he only had one companion, like Serena/May/Dawn. Somebody with a goal and not tagging along just cause. All of those since Brock left have been rather....... meh(Horrible in Bonnie/Clemont's case).
I don't think a solo adventure would work.

A series in which Satoshi and Pikachu spend 3-4 years travelling around by themselves, conversing only with each other and the TRio during battlez sounds like my idea of heaven. The only problem might be that no one else would want to watch this...

If they take a ME-esque approach, then I'd say it's possible. If Ash is around Alain's age, then I'd say there's be a lot more to show about Ash than just trying to be a pokemon master, so a solo adventure wouldn't lack in content too much. Of course there'd be villains and rivals, and indeed the entire saga would be shorter, but as long as they are creative enough, then they shouldn't have too much trouble making the show interesting.

Ash is likely to get two more companions for the next gen. Of course if he had only one companion with him then he and that companion would have better development for the pokemon that they catch. Most of time Ash travels with two except for Hoenn and Kalos since there are 3 companions for those regions.

It has been shown time and time again that Ash does NOT have what it takes to carry a show by himself, even with his Pokémon. He's just not interesting or deep enough, never will be, and I sometimes I wonder if he was never meant to be the first place.

Though what I'd like is if it were him, the Girl, and a revolving door of companions who'd join them for a while, leave, and sometimes come back to mix and match characters to keep things interesting.

Sounds boring.

I like Ash, but the greatest part of each new generation are the new main characters and their story arcs.

I like Ash, but I don't think that he could carry the show himself. He's just not interesting enough to do that. He needs a group of characters to bounce off and I don't think he could do that with just his Pokemon. Ash traveling on his own could work for a couple of episodes at best, but not for a full series that lasts roughly between three to four years.

That's pretty much the plot of a great deal of the films, isn't it? Ash helps the Legendary Pokemon while his companions are sidelined in some way. The films are equivalent in length to about four episodes and that part isn't all of it, so that shows how long Ash can carry a story on his own.

Depends if someone was to try and give him a bit more expansion: sort of like what would happen if took a character off a team comic book who traditionally doesn't have their own story and made them the focus. With skill you could do it, but it would take some dedication, and the fans would complain in the end.

Sounds pretty boring. Except Iris I think the female lead has always been a more interesting character than Ash. Also this limits the amount of Pokemon with the team to the 5 extra Ash can catch, so no big group. Plus Ash would just starve because he can't cook

I believe Ash will still travel with Serena & Brock will return

I wouldn't mind having Ash alone for few episodes. If anything just to see different change of pace happening to pokemon series and his journey. Being admittedly interesting to have Ash find himself in unexpected and delicate situations without friends on his side. Who would watch his back, provide advice when he doesn't know what to do himself. Or bail Ash out of danger sometime even saving his life(i recall Misty did that few times).

Solo journey would definitely serve as nice way in having Ash learn how to be more perceptive, resourceful and organized when it comes to all little things he otherwise takes for granted. Such as food, medicine supplies, cooking, navigating skills in determining where is next center or town becoming more competent as person as result of that.

However Ash traveling completely alone with just Pikachu and his pokemon for whole series just doesn't sit right with me or sounds particulary interesting.

Limiting greatly on dynamic, action and diversity to storyline traveling companions provide on their own.

Enjoying much more personally when we have someone else beside Ash to follow. See him/her working toward achieving set goals in life, deliver more color and flare to chemistry and characterization between protagonists with their unique quirks, personalities, flaws and virtues they posess. Delivering humor, passion, energy and sense of urgency to pokemon adventure alone.

Enriching all that more on viewing experience of some show when we can learn new things about other characters beside Ash, see how they would fit around and work as people between themselves. In reality it comes across as learning experience for both in facing all kind of dangers, temptations and obstacles.

Beside not every person in real life is cut out to function on its own. People are social creatures which prefer to be in company of someone else and help each other out. At least majority of them are.

Large part of Ash success and improvement he made as trainer, let alone maturity can be thanked to his traveling companions. Providing moral support, shoulder cry and backbone to rely on in tough times,. Or giving Ash motivation, mentoring, advices and constructive critic when needed.

This worked both ways because Ash presence in each of his companons life left undeniably significant impact on them. Such as Misty realizing value behind Ash heroic acts and persistence becoming more compassionate and openminded as person. May learning how to battle and train her pokemon thanks to mentoring coming from main hero.
Clemont gaining more courge and faith in himself viewing Ash as rolemodel etc.

So while i would be ok with Ash traveling alone for awhile, it shouldn't be for more than few episodes. Just not having enough stamina and potential to carry whole journey as main character for over 100+ episodes alone.

If there needs to happen shift to pokemon series formula there exists other, what i would find more attracting methods to achieve this:

Like maybe having Ash and his older friends(Misty, May, Brock etc) reunite receiving sequel to their stories and how much separation affected their friendships and way they view themselves. See them in more mature, competent and enchanted with new fun traits and skills edition as they go on bigger, harder tests in achieving their dreams and playing importance to story again. Not like we need even more new companions imo having more than enough forgotten ones.

So would that adventure in itself be a 60 year story arc? Ash hasn't aged much in the anime at all, so for him to officially age 3-4 years, I'm assuming that I'll be using a walker when he's barely turning 14-15.

Omg soulboy you crack me up! I was referring to 3-4 years human time - 3-4 years Pokemon time is surely equivalent to infinity?
