Since the fifth generation is coming up I just have to ask, why do we still not multiple save files? The DSi has a SD slot, can't we save on a SD card? Is Nintendo that desperate in trying to make us buy all three versions?

If you could save to an SD card, it would be easy to copy the card data and this clone Pokémon and items. They wouldn't want that happening.

GameFreak never intended us to buy all three versions. You're "supposed" to only get one, then trade/battle with your friends. Don't blame Nintendo for people being anti-social.

Well, I don't know anyone who plays pokemon besides my brother nowadays.

Wi-fi kind of eliminates this though.

Everyone I know plays Pokemon. It's a shame, though, the one guy who was willing to give me legendaries and help me in game instead of just begging me for help died :(

why do we still not multiple save files?

First off what game has ever allowed more than one save file to ever be connected in anyway from the same game? Must be games I don't play. So I don't see why versions would have anything to do with the lack of multiple save files.

And I think the reason we don't have multiple files is because having 493 (or how many Pokemon that one can have) Pokemon on two save files would probably eat up a whole bunch of space.

But things like Zelda can have multiple save files (where the "item" slots aren't seemingly infinite (493+Pokemon + 4 moves + items in the bag + items in the PC + every other thing that can be recorded))

You are the parent of two kids, you can only afford one game, what do you do?

I was going to say what Dman_Dustin said, but my internet died. Basically that, and not everyone has a goddamn DSi. I certain don't and never will.

Multiple save files have been achieved without the DSi before :/

Oh yes, because sharing a handheld always worked out so well.

There was that article of some dumb parent who thought she could make four kids share one GBA :/

Pokemon is supposed to promote cross-trading between people. Get over it.

You get one game and the kids fight over it all the time.

Nintendo isn't about making it easy to afford or cheap. They aren't about making sure that every streetwalker can go out and get the games the day they come out with the strategy guide. They are a company that makes money and by making it necessary to buy multiple games for the purpose of multi person play, multiplayer and obtaining every Pokmemon. Every family that buys an extra game so little Timmy can have a game as well as baby Sheila has doubled sales. Every spoiled little boy who buys Pearl for his crush to go with his copy of Diamond to impress her as well as cheat her out of her version exclusives is also double sales. Every obsessive fanboy who buys all three is TRIPLE sales. The slogan from the very start was not "Make the easy financial decision, purchase a single game that will provide your whole family with neverending gameplay and every single feature and Pokemon in one cart," it was "Gotta catch em all", AKA go whine to your mother how you only need Pokemon Yellow and a Tangela figure to complete your collection. The poor woman who could only buy a single game will still get that game to do the best she can, but the rich realtors next door will buy both copies for all their kids and Nintendo will make a fortune. Compare that to having one game with ten save files and all the Pokemon. The poor woman can make her children both happy for only the price of one game, but the rich kids next door can't beg that they each need all three versions because they need all the Pokemon, events and separate save files. That household would only buy one game. Assuming the rich neighbors had five children and the games were 35 dollars each, and that there were only TWO versions, from that one household their decision cost them 350 bucks. You do the math.

Then she obviously did not raise them well, also you still will have one version just with more save files, that still promotes trading

Wi-fi pretty much eliminated any need for extra save files, I think.

But what if I wanted to replay my game, while not resetting an event or losing my almost-complete 'dex? Not really an issue for me, I have multiple versions of the games, just pointing out why someone might want multi-save files.

There's no need to just start over, and it's not like you can't get everything again considering it's the same version. If you're attached to certain pokemon or have a special IV one, get a wifi friend to hold it, etc.

Let's pretend I only have my Pearl game. I have a complete 'dex, including event Pokemon. And let's say I don't know anyone via Wi-fi that I would trust with my hard-earned monsters. A second save slot would come in handy.

Now, I can see where the game cards may not be able to support two files with so much info, and I can see where GF/Nintendo might like the extra money that comes from people owning multiple copies of their games, not to mention a Wii and Pokemon Ranch.

I'm sorry, but I just don't see the point in restarting if you've accomplished all this. go make 30-40$ whatever and buy the other version
