Ranked Season 36.jpg

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's Ranked Season 36 ran from 1-30 November 2025, with

Kirameki Neon taking 1st place in the Double Battle division, attributing their victory to a team featuring Terapagos and Calyrex's Shadow Rider form. Keep reading for more details on the team that achieved the impressive 1st place finish, as well as the top Pokémon, Restricted Pokémon, and Mythical Pokémon in Ranked Season 36.

This was the third season to use the Regulation Set J ruleset, allowing the use of Paradox Pokémon, Legendary Pokémon, along with a choice of two Restricted Special Pokémon per team; for the first time, this term also includes all Mythical Pokémon available in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Any team or rental code seen below can be used in online Ranked Battles while Regulation J is taking place from 1 September 2025 to 4 January 2026.

Ranked Season 37 is now running from 1 December 2025 to 4 January 2026. Start the climb to Master Ball Tier for huge rewards: five Spicy Herba Mystica, two Fast Balls, a Gold Bottle Cap, three regular Bottle Caps, an Ability Patch, and 300,000 League Points. For coverage of current and upcoming Ranked Seasons, make sure to keep an eye on Bulbagarden!

As mentioned above,

Kirameki Neon made use of the combination of Terapagos and Calyrex's Shadow Rider form. These two have good synergy due to the fact that, while Terapagos' Normal-type attacks are not very effective against Rock- and Steel-types and have no effect on Ghost-type Pokémon, Calyrex can use its powerful Ghost-type signature attack Astral Barrage to deal supereffective damage to the opposing Ghost-type Pokémon and neutral damage to the Rock- and Steel-types. Both Pokémon may, however, struggle against the Restricted Pokémon Zamazenta and Lunala, the former resists Normal-type attacks while the latter is immune, and both can use Wide Guard to prevent Astral Barrage from landing.

The rest of the team is fairly standard; Incineroar and Rillaboom support with a wide array of utility, such as Fake Out; Hearthflame Ogerpon dishes out huge amounts of damage; and Raging Bolt similarly deals damage while providing the team with extra priority in its signature move Thunderclap, greatly helping against opponents that may outspeed the rest of the team.

Top Mythical Pokémon

As time progresses, it becomes more and more evident that Mythical Pokémon cannot seem to hold their own in Ranked Battles. The highest-placing Mythical Pokémon, Arceus, still falls short of the Top 10 most-used Restricted Pokémon, getting beaten by Pokémon that have seen little-to-no success throughout Scarlet and Violet, like Zacian and Groudon.
