That's a great catch. It's still not entirely clear but it does seem as though his feelings of jealousy triggered the powers of the Teal Mask.

On this subject I believe I have come across a small touch of male/female character dialouge difference.
After Kieran punches the Lousy Three monument and takes off, Carmine asked me if all teenagers act up. I play as a male character and am watching someone playing the DLC as a female player character who was instead asked if the outburst was scary. I am almost certain my male character was not asked that.

No, she asks everyone that, you just forgot. And I remember she asked me that myself and I play as a male character.
 
i still haven't gotten the dlc yet. s: mostly because of the framerate issues apparently being worse in the dlc than in the main game which... gives me a lot of pause.

dunno if game freak will ever get around to fixing it (doubtful) but it really bums me out hearing all of this.

I never had framerate issues in the DLC in either version. shrug
 
I have had some slow down and the occasional graphical glitch. Otherwise, it is really more of what we go from the base game.
 
I'd never had any problems with slowdown in the main game, even using a day 1 switch, but the DLC really bugged out for me. Lots of long pauses in between scene transitions even really ruined it for me.
 
This is my review of the Teal Mask, it's not that good to be honest.

The good
+Story and characters. The story follows the blueprint of the Crown Tundra story and therefore it relies heavily and lore and on its main Pokemon. It's a simpe but fun story, where the further you progress the most secrets you discover. Also, this time the characters aren't there only for exposition, but actually they change a lot during the story as you discover their reactions to what is happening and how you become Ogerpon's ally too. It also has subtle details about what's to come on the Indigo Disk.
+The Pokemon. There are enough species to make it a fullfilling expansion and they are integrated into the area, from an apple field foreshadowing Dipplin to the many shrines dedicated to Ogerpon and the Loyal Three. And talking about the Loyal Three, the twist that they were the villains was great mostly because it was hidden in their designs all along!, it made me appreciate them a lot more. Pokedex distribution is also decent, some underrated mons like Ducklett, Sewaddle, Volbeat and Ilumise can be easily found and the reliance on old generations is justified.

The meh
+/- The Perrin subquest. I really appreciate the idea and how it referenced Hisui much more efficiently than the base game, but it felt a little undercooked and short. Also, its featured Pokemon could have used some more lore.
+/-Ogre Busting. I can't believe Game Freak made its third "break balloons while riding" game and tried to sell it as something new...Actually, I can totally believe it. At least this time it's more strategic and easy to master and the prizes are surprisingly great. Sadly, everything related to Greedent is going to get some negative points for me.

The bad
-Lack of features. Isle of Armor had Cram-o-Matic, Restricted Sparring and the Digglet quest. The Crown Tundra had Dynamax Adventures. This one has nothing to do, so you better go and have fun with what was there on the base game (insert "Well, Actually...") or go and do raids through one of the most boring maps ever...
-The map and the price. Everything I said here about it still applies. Kitakami not only lacks any disctintive environment but the few ones it has are inmensely boring and better done before. The village doesn' even feel like a Japanese town and more like its houses were assets from the base game, and the caves are a mess to go through. Game Freak, could you not take the cheapest route for once? Specially as you literally raised the price compared to last time?

It has its highs and I can understand if that's enough for some people, but saying the Teal Mask is superior to any of the SWSH DLCs is honestly insulting. This is without a doubt one of the franchise biggest examples of "More money for less content".

Speak for yourself. I was pitiful both times (the required round in both games). I couldn't even get near halfway to Carmine's score. :oops:

However, it was such an annoying minigame that although I wanted to thrash Carmine for being kind of an arrogant bitch, I was not enticed to keep trying after the required round.
It was difficult for me to find my way back to the boxes after going too far out and roaring at the stupid Greedents didn't do jack.

Don't forget there is still more coming but you're not wrong, the map was a bit bland, tbh I was expecting more actual towns and the plot felt a bit too rushed and underdeveloped.

For reference: We had Skyrim: Dragonborn / Dawnguard for a cheaper price.

Yes, this is the first part out of two, but apart from the positive points mentioned by @Nicolas721 it's a really lacklustre DLC. There's no fun, repeatable content and the world is bland.

And, yes, the story is decent, for a Pokémon-game. But it's average at best when we take other games into consideration.
 
I still somewhat enjoyed the story for this first wave of dlc; it does still pale in comparison to the main game's plot. Though, I think part of the reason why I enjoyed the Teal Mask's story was because I enjoyed the interactions that we had with Ogrepon similar to the interactions with the game's Raidon. I am also interested in how they are going to follow up on Carmine and Kieran's story. Although, it wouldn't surprise me if this wave's story becomes somewhat irrelevant or undercooked in the long run.
 
oh hell yes, i'm so hyped.
i'm still unsure as to what i'm most excited for - the return of the older starters (older starters = popplio and chikorita)? gym leader rematches? the actual blueberry academy itself? the bb league? lacey in particular? seeing where carmine and kieran's stories go?
why not all of the above?
...i can't wait to shiny hunt the everliving arceus out of the starters.
 
And the character development! Kierans kinda left me scared for the Indigo disk, but hopefully we’ll sort it out? I think? Anyways, I would probably like it more if the paldean area zéro friend group came with you (I want to see their interactions with Carmine and Kieran. I can honestly imagine It going like: me trying to introduce my friends to carmines friends, penny would rather sit in the back and watch anime on her phone, nemonas pretty eager, and arvens just standing there awkwardly waiting for me to say something. And of course, Kieran watching menacingly from behind a row of lockers)

I've seen some people who enjoyed it, which is perfectly fine. Personally I found it underwhelming. Incomplete, if you will, without Indigo Disk. But I think you might have a better experience waiting at least closer to Indigo Disk to start it, if not after it releases, as it'll be more complete.

Actually, I've held off on really even starting Scarlet and Violet yet. (I got both since I bought the double pack.) I had gotten up till about the first Pokemon Center before the school after you meet Arven for the first time. Then I decided I didn't like my Fuecoco's stats, and I wanted to reset my Switch at the same time, so I deleted my entire save and haven't done anything with either game since. So, at this point, I think I'm just going to wait for the Indigo Disk to come out so I can beat the game in one fell swoop.

If I'm gonna play a game, I want to get the full experience from the start, not be waiting around for a half-finished product to have "add-ons" be installed with DLC. This is why I hope Nintendo learns from this with the next Pokemon games and actually takes their time with them, so we can get a good, finished product right from the start instead of a hastily slapped together half-finished mess like Scarlet and Violet apparently are.

Oh yeah, and speaking of that, and something which I forgot to mention before-I lost my progress at least once, if not twice in the game already. The game straight up glitched me out!
