As you may be aware, we are currently upgrading the site to run faster and more stable. This process is almost complete, but there are 2 main issues still remaining:

1. Sometimes pages throw an error. This is in rare occasions, about 10-20% of hits.
2. Sometimes login is not carried over between different sections of the website.

We have planned maintenance windows to address these issues and complete upgrading the website. The following are scheduled maintenance windows where the site may be taken down for short periods of time:

Saturday 23rd May - 10:00 - 11:00 GMT
Sunday 24th May - 10:00 - 13:00 GMT

The maintenance windows have been planned for off peak periods to minimize distuption.

During the maintenance window, the site isn't expected to experience any major downtime, however there will be some minor distruption while we change some critical server infrastructure.

At the end of the maintenance period, we are expecting all issues to be resolved.

As always, although we have a schedule, there may be unforseen circumstances which cause the maintenance to go beyond the scheduled window - so please keep this in mind before you start celebrating

If you experience any problems other than those mentioned above, feel free to contact me or one of the admins, and we will investigate the issue.

I take it that the second one is transferring data to the new server...

No, the new server is already up and running right now (which is why the site is running so much faster than before); but there will be changes to how the load balancer is setup, and how the servers share their memory.

Anything to make Bulbagardens run smoother is worth any amount of wait.

Alright, I'll make a note of those times.

I just want to add that it's really considerate of you guys to make these changes at times where the forum won't be bustling, so thanks for that. :D

Anything that'll make this place run better and smoother. I'll have to schedule those dates, and find something else to do....

Phase 1 of the maintenance is complete the following issue should be resolved:

1. Sometimes pages throw an error. This is in rare occasions, about 10-20% of hits.

Please report any issues which do not involve login (login issue will hopefully be resolved tomorrow).

Does this maintenance have anything to do with all the users online who aren't actually online? When I click who's online it says that just about everyone is viewing user profile but when you click on their profile, they aren't even online. When I got online this morning there was over a thousand users online but when I saw my buddy was on the list I clicked his name and he wasn't active for over 4 hours.

yeah, i take it one of the effects of this maintenance is that people can't log in if they logged out before the maintenance started?

Does anyone know why I just reloaded a page and it logged me out.....?

Usually, I have the box set to 'remember me' so it wouldn't log me out, so it seems a bit odd.

Just log back in, it should be fine. Had to reset everything, because I was logged out, too.

Why does it say that a bunch of users are logged on when in fact they are not? If you press their profile, it shows that they are logged off. Is this just a bug due to the fact that changes are being made to this website?

It's just collecting all the people who sign on, and it isn't taking them off the list once they sign off.

We've currently got a backend issue with the way the reverse proxy is setup, so that it's actually seeing everyone as using only one IP, the server IP. As you might imagine, it's a pain to fix, but we'll figure it out soon enough.

Just a question though...since i just joined. In bulbapedia, you(or someone else)mentioned something about "Sockpuppets". I ask you; what do you mean by "Sockpuppets"?

Sockpuppets are n00bs who try to vandalize wikis when they are banned by the wiki. They use many proxies to try to mess up the wikis.
