Scooter Libby escapes jail time.

I would have at least thought Bush would have waited until after the election so as not to create even more bad feelings about Republicans. However, it may be early enough that people will forget by 2008. It seems most people don't know or care anyway.

All of the Reps are trying to get away from Bush ASAP, anyway.

I wasn't surprised. They've been talking about Bush doing this since Libby was first convicted. Not like Bush has anything to worry about. He's a lame duck president. They're not going to impeach him (or even try anymore), so as long as he doesn't do anything TOO bad (i.e., openly invade a country for the hell of it), no one's going to do anything but complain. And, when election time comes around, the Republicans will just throw out a few mentions of the "war on terror" and call Democrats soft on terror and against religion. This won't even be an issue in a month. Heck, I'd be surprised if anyone was still talking about it after a week.

And, hey, if Nixon can get pardoned, why not Libby?

come on

he was dumped because he worked for bush. REPUBLICANS RULE!!!!

If we did not invade Iraq, our asses would be a blip on a giger counter. Saddam would have gotten something worse then mass amounts if mustard gas (by the way, the UN classifes mustard gas has a WMD) and done something ten times worse then 9/11. we could have fought the terrorists in downtown baghdad or downtown (insert city name). I look forward to a reply.

I am a conservative though those two posts did give me a nice laugh. Getting back on topic though, does anyone perhaps see a book deal for Libby?

See, here's what I don't get. Libby got a relatively long sentence, and in Bush's commutation sentence, he notes that he feels the sentence was 'excessive.' I wouldn't be crying if Scooter got 12 months instead of 30. But Bush took it from 30 to zero. That doesn't mean the sentence was excessive. It means the sentence was unnecessary.

Also, whoever is saying we'd be blips on a geiger counter if we hadn't invaded Iraq, I know this is out of character for me as both a mod and a person, but you're an idiot.

According to the current Libby article on Wikipedia, the list of crimes he was indicted of is as such:

"One count of obstruction of justice, two counts of making false statements when interviewed by agents of the FBI, and two counts of perjury in his testimony before the grand jury."

... shouldn't there be one count of leaking a CIA agent's name in that list too? I'll admit I'm no expert in criminal justice, but shouldn't it make sense that if it can be proven that he covered up a crime, that it would also be provable that the crime itself occurred?
