Where do you get the screenshots and sprites for the wiki? I know you don't just take a picture of a Game Boy because the pictures are too high of a quality for that to have happened. Where do they come from?

I missed playing those games.... but to mention it I do have pokemon diamond(the telefang power version) for the vba but i don't really like the starter, I like the jade version's starter......

Anyway, do you guys know where I can blah blah

Blackjack here--don't ask for roms, even for fake games.

Emulators. I think.

You think right.

So, you get the sprites from emulator ROMs but you don't allow anyone to ask where to get said ROMs?

How do we rip them?

You press Print Screen when you see the sprite on-screen. Then you paste it into an image-editing program, crop it to the correct size (the smallest rectangle where every pixel of the sprite shows), and replace all of the non-sprite area with white. Then you save it and upload it to Bulbagarden Archives. There may be an easier way, but this will definitely work.

Having a ROM is legal if you already own the game itself. ROM sites usually have a disclaimer saying something to that effect. Anyway, my suggestion is that you use Google or some other search engine and try to find the ROMS and emulators you need.

No, there's a better way. Zhen and others have taken the images directly from the games' code. And replacing with white is a BAD idea. Replace with an alpha channel.

Anyway, no, we don't let anyone ask where to find them. Believe me, if I managed to do it on my own...

Finding ROMs is easy with Google, so there's no need to link to them here for liability reasons.

And yeah, transparent background, plz. But make sure to make the white parts of Pokémon white.

Incorrect, please read the Nintendo Terms of Service.

Another individual that designed a program, of the same legality as the sprite ripping, to detect appearance rates of pokémon got banned and had their thread locked with no apparent explanation by the mods. I find it absolutely unbelievable that other staff posted in the thread and actually discussed the topic. Then some moderator just anonymously locks the thread down for no reason gestapo style and isn't even prepared to offer any justification or explanation. Such action is simply outrageous and uncalled for, you won't even identify yourself or offer a reason, cowardly.

I actually download the sprites from other sites that allow such a thing. They're the ones who do the ripping. I have a lot of zipped files.

What about the Generation IV animated sprite for Bulbasaur? Did you download it as well, or did you rip it from the game? If you ripped it, how did you do it? The emulator I use doesn't have a video capture option...

The Gen IV animation of Bulbasaur was done as part of a complex process (made more complex by the fact that it's not just animated, it's a png file too). There's no easy way to do it.

Geez... I bet you already know it, but whatever, Bulbasaur's DP sprite is exactly like the one posted in his Bulbapedia page, unlike popular belief (that the DP animated sprites are only a two-frame GIF). Indeed, there are only two frames, but they're arranged with motion and distortion, just like Emerald ones (perhaps even better).
Anyway, I've got an emulator which (I guess) can rip all Pokémon's animated sprites in a simpler way. If I can do it, I'll ask the proper permission to post the GIFs.
P.S.: Sorry if my English is not so good.

Nononononononono no gifs. plz.

Being pngs, the DPPt animated sprites would also have to be pngs. And since that has animation support in Firefox, Opera, and other good browsers... we (read: I) decided to use it.

Now if you CAN'T see the animation of Bulbasaur on its page in the spritebox (not the evobox: that's different) then you have a browser that doesn't support anipngs.

Not all of the Gen IV sprites have yet been animated, but rest assured, they will be. Soon. One day. Maybe? We're trying. It's hard work.

As for your English? Pf, I didn't notice anything bad about it... no worse than a normal kid walking in here makes.

I can see the animated PNGs nicely, 'cuz I use Firefox here. I just consider GIFs smaller and easier to manage, but it's my opinion.
Anyway, I wish you good luck in this work, which is excellent, I ensure you. Count on me if needed.
