A great many years in the future, Global Warming has occured to such an extent that much of the world is now underwater. Mountains and Highlands are now islands, cities and towns left underwater as humanity moves upward gradually. Now, with great seas between much of civilisation, and thick clouds preventing the usage of jets and other more modern flight methods, propeller-based aircraft has again found a calling. Merchant and mercenary pilots support a struggling-to-cope naval transport system, crude runways draped over tiny islands and fledgling nations, struggling to rebuild. War has occured, but peace seems to have settled around multiple small nations and plane manufacturers over the remnants of Europe.

Your characters find themselves on one of few zeppelins, unwieldy, overcomplicated passenger craft only used for transport to and from the capitals to the very largest islands of these infant nations. You travel from the North, from the Seas of the Free Clans, towards the remnants of London, a mercantile and cobbled-together city-state of floating wreckage, anchored just about to the ruins of the old.

Who are these travellers? How will they find their way in this world?

[RULES]
Adhere to any rules that persist across BG.
If you have any questions, I'm aware my world is still fairly bare-bones, and part of the reason for existence of this is to expand on it, so feel free to ask.
Characters may well end up aerial or naval combat, be aware of that when thinking about age and the like.
My own intent was to 'DM', instead of playing a character, as it is what I am comfortable with. If you'd prefer me to play more than just NPCs, let me know.

I'm aware it's been a little while since I've ran a thread here. If I've forgotten anything, let me know.

I got a pretty cool steampunk vibe while a read your description.

Anywho, just let me know if any of the background information doesn't line up with what is cannon. I'll be sure to retcon anything that doesn't fit.

One last thing, how many people do you plan on recruiting for this?

Name: Professor Julian Ramirez

Age: 51

Physical Description: He has a shorter, slightly stocky build. His hair is dark black, which he wears long in the back and is only just beginning to recede in the front. He has hazel eyes, and creamy, brown skin. His face sports a thick, bushy mustache and a stubbly beard. Typically, he wears a tan suit with a black tie, a dark brown trench coat, a red fez, and a pair of circular spectacles.

Personality: Professor Ramirez has a bit of an old world charm to himself. He grew up in a wealthy setting, giving him a taste for luxury and a very chivalrous personality. Being one of the few people in the world to have graduated from a traditional brick and mortar university, he secretly considers himself the last of a dying breed and is never afraid to regale anyone with tales of his travels. Having gone to a Catholic academy during his youth and growing up in a very religious community, he is very religious and even a tad superstitious at times. Above all, he is a practical-minded man with a taste for discovery.

Background: He was born and raised in Cerro de Pasco, Peru, located high in the Andes Mountains, and one of the few remaining cities in South America. He came from a long line of silver miners, and as such had a much more luxurious childhood than most of his peers. His father in particular saw to it that his son was provided the best education, and paid for him to receive special schooling from the Catholic monks at the local monastery. After graduation, he was traveled to La Poz, Bolivia, where South America’s only functioning university was located. Having always been fascinated by legends of life before the floods, he studied archeology and history rigorously, eventually earning a doctorate and a professorship. He continued to teach and research in La Poz for a number of years, until he realized that the city was slowly dying. After this realization, he packed up and made the long journey through the islands of North America, eventually settling in the area around Europe. At present, he has just finished a salvage expedition he was leading in the North, and is now on his way to London.

Skills: His knowledge of history is unsurpassed He is fluent in Spanish and Latin and can speak good English and passable French. Having seen many parts of the world, he has collected a great deal of cultural wisdom and has made the acquaintance of quite a few people in quite a few places.

Flaws: While he has strived to remain in good shape, he is getting old and can’t move quite as nimbly as he used to. He can be very superstitious at times. Most importantly, he feels a certain deep-seated animosity towards Europeans in general, deeming them to be spoiled since the islands of Europe have remained relatively prosperous compared to the crumbling and failing cities of his home.

Well, sorta-Steampunk, sorta Porco Rosso was the vibe. It's actually a setting for an RPG I'm working on.
I like the background stuff, fits decently in the setting, good work on that.
Thirdly, ideal-world I'd like a small party, between 3 and 5, with me playing NPCs I think... Does that sound reasonable?

So, to drum up interest, here's some more worldbuilding. An intelligent person might just put this into the top, and maybe I'll do that when I'm done

The Seaplanes of the title are essentially modified propeller-driven aircraft that thanks to multiple engines and propulsion methods can alternate between flying above and diving below the seas they patrol. This results in merchant companies being paid for guarding submarines as well as ships and zeppelins, and each nation has some sort of informal fighting force in the air and beneath the waves. As there are much smaller landmasses now, these fighting forces may be spread over large distances, resulting in mercenary companies being hired for many routine civil tasks, as well as by private citizens.

In my mind, the players would have options to join the employ of various nations, as well as various mercenary groups, or indeed form their own, should that be their desire. This does not necessarily have to mean PCs are pilots, or in any way related to the Seaplanes-operating aspect of the world.
