We all know that the last nine seasons were all only viewable to English fans as dubs, which then took a year, and with the 4Kids crisis, a bundle of surrounding frantic drama, for simple understanding. I know a lot of people - myself included - would like to see the series fresh from the Japanese shores, much like how many other anime series are viewed.

The subtitling coverage of Pokemon so far has been disgusting. Props go to Excalibur and #PM for what efforts they put in; your works were lovely, but the amount of what was actually released is just not enough.

So, what I'm saying is that with the fresh start of what's considered a brand new series (much like AG was considered a new series to the original), the Pokemon fandom could definitely benefit from fansubs of the series. I'd be fully willing to help out such a project in any way possible, but the issue is that it seems uncertain for #PM/Excal to do anything when the new series starts airing.

Would anybody be interested in helping to produce a fansub of the series, so that the English fans could enjoy it too?

Why start with Seaon 9 when it's almost over in Japan and is starting soon in America? We should focus on Season 10 for subs....

Sorry, I'm a bit out-of-tune with the current season numbers. ^^; I assumed the D/P series was season 9; is that wrong?

Yes, Season 9 would technically be the Battle Frontier.

Season 10 is DP.

In US terms, where would season 10 start though? Not exactly on DP, would it? I mean, season 3 actually started on Pokemon Water War, and Season 5 on Address Unown, even though they opened up new leagues.

Those who can comprehend Japanese well enough to translate it generally are not interested in Pokémon, do not wish to engage in gray-area activities, or do not know that their help would be appreciated.

This is true, but it's likely amplified by the lack of Pokemon subbing that's been released. Surely there wouldn't be absolutely no translators who wish to work on the series?

I would love to help with something like that, but I simply don't have time for it. Once the semester gets into swing I'm not even going to be up-to-date on episodes. I'm not good enough at Japanese yet to simply listen and translate (although I have improved considerably since when I tried last year.)
I might have time to QC, though. If you guys get to that stage, feel free to PM me.

Oh, you can't possibly imagine. There are some people who despise the anime. There are all of, what, maybe 8 people who have ever translated Pokémon anime for fansubs.

^^^^^^^
Such as Datebayo Fansubs who think Pokemon is nothing compared to the GOD OF ANIME, NARUTO!

And, that Pokemon is licsened and easy to see in America, and not edited that much, thus their isn't much of a need for subs as other animes (One Piece and Keroro)

Bulbagarden is co-operating with [HASHTAG]#pocketmonsters[/HASHTAG] to try and do fansubs, with I think 3 of our staff having helped with translation or quality checking. (Myself, Zhen Lin, and Murgatroyd) Time is a big issue there however.

The simple fact is, with a Pokémon episode coming out each week, with the amount of free time I have available to me to actually translate, I couldn't keep up with that if I was the only person translating. I'll continue to translate the occasional ep that I really like (A translation of the Ash & Brock tag battle should be available soon. I hope to finish off the Pike Queen episode once I can find where I put the DVD I burnt the file to, and to do the episode coming out this week), but doing one every week will be simply too time consuming for me.

You guys should definately try to do the final episode of AG, or the first episode of DP. Those will be major episodes, agreed?

Yeah, they should definitely sub those episodes.

Though, in my opinion, if they ever have any free time (lol), I'd personally like to see AG 177 and AG 178 subbed, just because I liked those episodes a lot and I would like to know what everyone said in those episodes. ^^o

It's kinda sad when you think about it though. I mean, in a way I can sorta understand why people wouldn't wanna help translate or sub Pokemon, considering how it's so hated by people. That, and the fact that it's such a long series that many people haven't even seen half the episodes, let alone all of them.

Still though, we're watching a long-running series in my anime club right now, called Kyo Kara Maoh. So what I can't figure out is, if people will sub long-running series like that (and yes, we are watching it subtitled by the way), then why won't people help translate and sub something like Pokemon?

I mean, if they could just get over the fact that it's mainstream in America and easy to get, and also get over the fact that they 'dislike the anime' or whatever, then I'm sure we could at least get some more translators or more help with getting subs for Pokemon.

And besides, it couldn't be that hard to convince a few anime fansub translators to help sub Pokemon, could it?

If people are willing to translate Powerpuff Girls Z, I'd expect people to consider Pokemon...

But yeah, we should gather a team for DP of subbers especially since it is a new series sort of, and would be a great start. Especially as DP sounds VERY promising.

But yeah, it seems only less widespread Anime (bar Naruto and One Piece) are subbed now, as GX doesn't get subbed either by anyone, which stinks as it has alot of explanation through dialouge. But I ramble...

Simply, Pokemon isn't that deep as subtitles aren't needed that much.

Yeah, and another thing is when it comes to Pokemon, most people either do one of 2 things:

1. They just watch the dub.

2. They just watch the raw, Japanese episodes.

And of course, you also have people who watch both. But I think the majority of people usually watch either one. Or, I could be wrong, and the majority of people actually watch both (cool!!). XD

But, anyway, that doesn't excuse the fact that many people (both fans of the dub and fans of the Japanese version) would really enjoy watching fansubs of Pokemon. So I really don't understand why people don't wanna sub it.

I watch both, and I'm perfectly comtempt with it.

The only reason I would want fansubs is Japanese BGM and being able to understand it, now that PUSA seems to be doing that, Fansubs aren;t needed unless PUSA screws the script (I think the will do a great job),.

And then of course, there's all the SOVA people (such as myself and others, and please no bashing) who would greatly appreciate fansubs being made of the new seasons.

^^^
Yes of course, because of the evil PUSA, lol.

But I don't get it though, if you guys are so used to the 4kids voices, why would hearing different voices in another language be ok, but hearing different voices in the same language bother you????
