Selection of cards from upcoming Battle Partners expansion for the Pokémon TCG in Japan unveiled in Champions League Osaka Day 2 livestream

Following on from the announcement of the Battle Partners expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game during yesterday's Pokémon Champion's League Osaka stream, the Day 2 stream has given fans their first look at over a dozen new cards that will be released in this set in Japan on January 24th, 2025. Also announced was a Battle Partners Deck Build Box, plus N and Lillie Collection Files, both of which will be released on the same day as the expansion.

The Battle Partners expansion will see the return of Trainer's Pokémon, a game mechanic originally introduced in the Gym Heroes expansion, as first announced earlier this year during the Pokémon World Championships Closing Ceremony. The official website states that only four Trainers will be included in this set, with today's announcements focusing on Pokémon for Lillie, N, and Iono, as well as Trainer cards providing benefits for each. From the promotional images of the booster pack art, the final Trainer will be Hop, and it seems safe to assume the set will include a Hop's Zacian ex card.

The Deck Build Box that will released alongside this set can be considered the Japanese equivalent of the Trainer's Toolkit sets that have been released internationally on an annual basis since 2020. Each Battle Partners Deck Build Box will retail for 4,200円, and include a total of 17 Pokémon cards, 57 Trainer cards, and 6 Special Energy cards, all of which are cards that have been proven competitive staples; along with 10 Battle Partners booster packs; a set of 96 standard Basic Energy cards; and four card dividers to use the Deck Build Box as a storage box.

The N and Lillie Collection Files meanwhile will each contain a Terastal Holofoil promotional card of a Trainer's Pokémon, either N's Zoroa or Lillie's Comfey (with identical artwork to regular version of these cards printed in the Battle Partners set); a mini card folder featuring artwork of N or Lillie with their Pokémon, capable of storing up to 80 cards; a Pokémon Coin featuring an N or Lillie design; and 6 Battle Partners booster packs. These Collection Files will retail for 2,420円 each.

Shortly after the conclusion of the live stream, a video was posted on thee Pokémon Trading Card Game's official Japanese YouTube channel, highlighting strategies for several of the newly revealed cards.
