Hi guys,

Sometime in the next two weeks, we'll be moving to a server designed to accommodate our extremely rapid growth, that should be blazing-fast now and scale well to our needs in the future. Due to a handful of very generous donations in the recent donation drive, in conjunction with improving ad revenue, we don't foresee a need for future donations at the present time. As a result, we don't feel it's right to leave the "donation" button up on the forums. Archaic (and all of us on staff) would sincerely like to thank you for stepping up and helping us out of late--money is tight for everybody now, but it's heartening to know that you guys still are willing to support what you love. We all really do appreciate it, and with a little luck, we'll try to find a way to give back in the form of contests or other community-oriented events in the coming months.

This server shift will cause a few small changes in the way the site works from a content standpoint. Because donations will be closed, the Development Forum, at the moment, will be inaccessible to interested people. We're still working out a way for people to gain access to the developer forum while donations are disabled; we'll come out with more on that in the coming weeks. If you have any specific concerns about that, feel free to drop me a line via PM. You may also notice a few small tweaks to the advertisements; nothing intrusive is coming, don't worry, no popups or anything, but we may shift things around here and there just to see what fits.

Also, a few features we closed down as a result of the server load will be opened up. We aren't quite sure of a specific date right now, but the userspaces on Bulbapedia will be coming back, with some changes in the rules. Zhen will be able to comment with more information on that later, probably after the move itself. The forums have been recently upgraded and so there should be no immediate change to them, although we're always looking into new ways to extend the functionality of the forums on the whole. For those technically minded, backend stuff should be opened up a little due to faster processing capability, allowing for significantly improved load times and things of that sort.

So what does this mean to you? Sometime in the next two weeks (and there will be a specific announcement a day or two before,) the site will go down for a little while as we hop servers. At the moment I don't have any estimate on the timeframe for this, but when the "move" post goes up, it should have all the information you need. When the server comes back, it should be a lot faster, and everyone's happy.

I haven't checked recently to see if it's still turned off, but will the ability to search the forums be restored?

It may have been bugged with a prior vB version--when we do a move, I'll rebuild the search database and hopefully that will fix any problems you may be having. I wasn't aware of it being turned off, but as the forums get larger the searching may get corrupted, especially if it isn't updated regularly.
 
That's strange. It's working now, but every other time I tried any kind of search, I got an error saying "Seaching forums is currently disabled."

Well, wouldn't it be easier to just leave the option of donations open, but just not make any topics on donations?
As unethical as it may be to ask for money when you don't need it, who knows? Maybe we will see a new pokemon, or Platinum will be bigger than we think and causes another jump in members like before DP's release. Plus you could always spread the money through the affiliates, expand Bulbagarden's influence in the online pokemon mafia world.
 
We have started the process of moving. We will be moving Bulbagarden in parts, starting with Bulbagarden Archives.

We will most likely move Bulbanews next, then Bulbapedia, and then the forums.
 
Bulbawiki has been migrated to the new server. The DNS records have been updated and most users should be reaching the new server within 24 hours.
 
BMGf has been moved. If you can see this message, then you are on the new server.
 
I'm assuming that the oekaki's being moved right now, since I can't access it right now due to a "server error".

Everything has been moved over now, however, we have decided to take the library and gallery offline due to security concerns.
