Chapter 1: The Secret Key
Nearly seven billion - the number of people on Earth. But are we all alone on this planet? No, we share it with wondrous creatures called Pokémon. They come in all shapes and sizes, occupying every kind of environment imaginable, from the grasslands...
A group of Tauros run on a plain while Aipom and Ambipom hang in the trees
...to the oceans...
A Manaphy leads a group of water Pokémon, featuring Wailord, Sharpedo, Luvdisc and Lanturn
...and the skies.
Hundreds of Pidgeot fly through the clouds, sharing the space with a group of Togekiss. Finally, Rayquaza flies through
They even live in outer space...
A group of Clefairy look up from the surface of the Moon to see Deoxys flying in the emptiness of outer space
...and there are some that live in worlds beyond our own.
Dialga and Palkia can be seen inside a portal contained in the Distortion World, which Giratina is watching. Giratina in turn is being watched from another dimension by Arceus
As partners with Pokémon, some of us participate alongside them in a sport known as Pokémon battling for fame, fortune, and most importantly, to become closer.
A young man in a red shirt and black shorts whose black hair shocks out from under his yellow hat is in an arena battling a bespectacled man in a tuxedo. The boy is using a Feraligatr, his butler-like opponent an Empoleon. A girl in a pink dress sits on a throne over the arena watching the battle
Not all intentions are pure though, and there are those who would exploit the strongest of Pokémon in order to advance their own sinister goals...
Dialga, Palkia, Giratina and Arceus all appear on computer screens being watched by a group of four people: a yellow-haired woman wearing glasses, a hunchbacked old man, a girl with shoulder-length red hair, and a tall young man with wild white hair.
And that is where this story begins, with a girl whose unique ability sets her apart from the rest of the world, and the group who want that for themselves....
------
A young seven year old girl was starting her second year in Trainer Academy. Her name was Olivia and her Pokémon’s name was Whiskers, a Meowth she found at the age of three.
Olivia wasn’t looking forward to going back to school. No one liked a know-it-all who couldn’t write.
“Mrrrreoww,” Whiskers started to lick Olivia’s face, telling her it was time to wake up and get ready.
“I don’t want to go to school today,” she whined at her feline friend, “Nobody likes me and I hate it,”
“What about the teacher, Matt Chiaki?”He asked her, pawing at her hand.
“Well, I guess some things are worth attempting,” she started to giggle as she remembered the only friend she had.
“So you have to go to school. I mean do you want to disappoint him? He’s doing all he can to make school fun for you,” Whiskers cooed at her.
“Alright, alright… I’ll go to school!” She started to giggle. Olivia pulled on her white knee socks and short plaid red skirt.
“Oh no! My top is missing, Whiskers! Where did I go with it?” She started to cry and panic, until Whiskers pawed at her white short sleeve shirt.
Olivia pulled on her white sleeve top and buttoned it up. Next she pulled on her black short sleeve sweater vest.
“Don’t forget your red tie this time,” Whiskers carried it to her, as she clipped it onto her sweater vest.
Olivia slipped on her black sneakers and grabbed her backpack. She had kept her poketop inside, which held all her notes and homework.
Whiskers had always gone to school with her and the teacher allowed it. Since it was hard for her to part with a best friend.
“Good morning, Olivia. You’re here early as always…” he looked up from his desk and saw the short brown haired girl bowing to him, “Is there anything I can do for you?”
“Not much, I just wanted to turn in my homework from last night. I’m almost out of ink so I’m a little upset,”
“Don’t worry about it. You’re my star student and I know you can tell me what your essay was about,”
“Um… I think I did my essay on Shaymin,” her favorite Pokémon had been Shaymin and there had been a connection between her and the flowery Pokémon. “There is a small shrub-like Pokémon called Shaymin. A Pokémon that resides in a secret kingdom unknown to all of its existence. One person holds the key to this legendary kingdom but no one really knows where or even who this person is,” she has told her whole essay by using her extraordinary memory.
“How did you figure that out?” He was surprised she knew so much about Shaymin, when he never told her about any of that.
“I have this dreams every night where I’m in a beautiful white dress and dancing with Shaymin. We’re at a castle made of vines and beautiful gracidia flowers. I’m not sure if its because I just like Shaymin or… I don’t know,”
“Hm, a castle made of vines and gracidia flowers you say? Explain to me everything you know about this kingdom,” he stood up and grabbed a piece of white chalk, while scribbling out the large castle.
“Well, its actually covered in shrubbery. I remember one of my dreams where I tried to approach it but… then I wake up,” she looked up at the picture and tried to think of other details.
“Hm. So you don’t know anything else?” Dr. Matt placed the chalk back in its place.
“I wish I did but, the only thing I can’t remember are my dreams,” she frowned in a slight sniffle and rubbed her arm, “I’ll try to keep a log of my dreams if you like, sensei.”
“How long have you had these dreams?”
“Ever since I was three years old,” she wasn’t sure what was on his mind, “Why? Is there something you know that I don’t?”
“Well, I could be wrong but usually when dreams have gone on like this for a long time… it means that there is a connection,” he had explained to her, while placing his chin on the back of his hands.
“Wait… do you mean I hold the secret to Shaymin’s secret kingdom?” She gasped at his theory and stepped back, “That’s impossible! I’m just a little girl, I can’t be the secret…”
“It’s nothing you should be ashamed of. Besides, you’re a great student and you can do so much than you offer yourself,” he patted her softly on the head while smiling, “Don’t throw all that away because people underestimate you.”
“But I don’t like when they make fun of me,” she rubbed her teary eyes, “It hurts my feelings because I try to do better but… they don’t see that,”
“That’s because you are Olivia and nobody can talk that away from you. Don’t change because someone doesn’t like who you are,”
“Do you like me for who I am, sensei?” She looked up at the tall man.
“Why, of course Olivia! I think you are the smartest girl ever and you are full of so much energy and determination,” he smiled at her again, “I mean with all the legends you know, you could be my assistant!”
Once school had started, Olivia dreaded sitting alone during class. No one would sit by her because they didn’t like her.
“Would someone please sit by Olivia?” Dr. Matt had asked his students, “I do not approve of this sudden segregation you give her,”
“No one wants to sit by the teacher’s pet,” Claire started to snicker, “I mean clearly she is a total know-it-all. You treat her with so much respect and it makes us feel worthless,”
“Well, maybe if you were like Olivia you wouldn’t be getting such low grades. Olivia is just very smart and intelligent and remembers what she is told,” he hated seeing her upset and did whatever he could for her.
“Now, did anyone do their short essay on the Sinnoh legends?”
Everyone passed in their short essays and waited for the next lesson. No one sat by Olivia, as always.
“Alright. I’ll grade these after school. Today’s legend will be about the three lake Pokémon,” he drew the lakes on the board in white chalk, “Three Pokémon there were. Into the lakes they dove. Deep, deep, drawing no breath. Deeper, deeper they dove. Into suffocating depths they dove. Deeper, then deepest they alight. From the lake floor they rise. Bearing with them the power to make vast lands, they rise again,” he spoke the legend clear and made sure everyone understood, “Now, can anyone tell me the names of these three legendary Pokémon?”
“Azelf, Uxie and Mesprit,” Claire smiled at her great effort.
“Very good but next time, don’t blurt the answer. You should raise your hand and I might just call on you,” he wrote the names of each Pokémon, “Does anyone know what lakes they belong too?”
Olivia raised her hand up really high. This is was her biggest topic and she knew just which lakes they were at.
“Olivia?”
“Azelf is at Lake Valor, Uxie is at Lake Acuity and Mesprit is at Lake Verity,” She smiled without even reading her notes.
“That is indeed correct,” he drew each Pokémon above their desired lake, “Now, would someone like to explain what their names mean?”
“Azelf means us, Uxie means you and Mesprit means me,” Claire had blurted out her answers again.
“Claire, that’s detention after school for blurting out the answers, again,” he was becoming very cross with her impulsive behavior.
“But you never call on us,” she growled at her teacher.
“I didn’t see your hand up for the last three questions I asked,” he told her in a very angry tone.
The bell rang, indicating the end of class, “That will be all. Please study for tomorrows test on the lake trio.”
Claire didn’t understand why Olivia got special treatment. That’s when she noticed the teacher handing her something.
“Here is a special book on Shaymin and it’s legends. I want you to try and decipher the unknown language that it is in,” he had faith that she would be able to do it, “No one has been able to translate it and only the one that holds the key to Shaymin’s secret Kingdom knows the language.”
“But… I told you I don’t know anything about the secret key! I’m not that girl because… I can’t be,”
“You’ll understand it in time, Olivia… only in time,” he patted her on the top of her head with a big smile on his face, “You just need to have faith in yourself,”
Olivia started back home to her grandmother’s house. Surprises had waited for this young seven year old girl and her Meowth, as her mysteries began to unfold.
To be continued…

First I should thank Lloyd_Chiaki for letting me use his character. Also for helping me with the "in the world of pokemon" speech.
Anyway, this is my first pokemon story so I'm still rusty on the whole pokemon anime. ^^;
Also, when the pokemon speak, it's in italics. Since having them talk in their names is hard in a fanfiction for me. XD
