Has anyone else ever encountered a shiny but been unable to capture it? Once I was playing Silver and I saw a shiny Unown, but it broke free of the ball and then fled. :'(

I also heard from a guy on a Zelda forum I also go to that he found a shiny Geodude that used Selfdestruct. Ouch. DX
 
It's happened to me. As I posted on another form, on my Silver I once encountered a shiny Rattata and Drowzee. Unfortunately I was not carrying pokeballs at either of those times, so I could not capture them >.<

Always carry pokeballs with you, just in case you encounter a shiny.
 
I saw on some guy's userpage on Bulbapedia that he found a shiny Bidoof at the very beginning of the game and couldn't catch it because he didn't have the Pokédex! Brutal! >_<

I kind of hate my friend because she has two COOL, GENERATION III shinies! Grumble grumble...
 
I found a shiny Pidgey in Gold once. Since it was at lvl 7 or so in Kanto, the Pokémon I had were at way to high a level to weaken it, so I tried to use balls on it to capture it at full health.

The blasted thing managed to break out of every ball I had. So when I ran out of balls, I just killed it.

This probably remains the only shiny Pokémon that escaped me, but I don't think about it much since it was only a pidgey.
 
pretty much every shiny i've seen.

well, they were all impossible to catch. had no pokeballs for the sableye, vulpix was in the battle pyramid, poochyena was the one that was chasing around prof. birch in ruby (ironically, i had been using a cheat to have a bunch of pokeballs straight off so i could catch one. after i got bored and stopped using it, the next poochyena was shiny).

i did catch a shiny gyarados in pearl over the summer, though. that made me damn happy P:
 
I forgot about Wobbuffet's Shadow Tag and couldn't switch out to weaken without killing it so I just tried throwing any type of pokeballs I had at it. Eventually I just KO'd it. Goodbye lovely pink Wobbuffet. :-(

A shiny Tangela in Crystal outside of Mt. silver
It was lvl 40 and my only poke I had with me was lvl 100 Typhlosion, killed with a not very effective move (thunder puch)
All of my other shiny's were all caught
 
The first random shiny I came across was a pidgey in Fire Red. It used whirlwind before I could catch it. Thankfully diamond has produced three random shinies for me, all of them caught, so I feel better about it.
 
when i let my brother borrow my leafgreen, he found a shiny tentacool, and didn't give my game back until i agreed he could have it. :(
 
I'm unsure.

I've only seen one shiny, and I caught it(A Combee).

Though, possibly, in Silver, I've seen at least two shiny Unown. I look away from the screen before they sparkle, and I'm unsure if they're blue or green.

Same thing happened to me, only it was a Graveler.

I don't really care about shinies, but it still would have been cool to have one.
 
Just once back in my old Crystal. I can't recall what shiny it was, but I let it get away because I thought my game had been glitching. xD;
 
I found a Shiny Bronzor inside Wayward Cave with Mira and her pokemon killed it:saiyan:
 
Let's see...
in Firered: a shiny Larvitar and shiny Entei
Emerald: Shiny Solrock
Diamond: Shiny Wurmple
Leafgreen: Shiny Pikachu

Those are the only shinies I've ever encountered as well.
 
I've only ever captured one shiny (not counting the red gyarados). It was a shiny abra just north of vermilion on the gold version. All I could do was throw an ultra ball at it, because I knew it would immediately teleport if I gave it the chance.
And I actually caught it.
