I am pretty certain Shinji is from Johto he looks just like the Rival in GSC and treats his pokemon just as badly!

Do you agree with me?
 
Why would that make Shinji come from Johto? He has some similarities to Silver from G/S, but there's vast differences as well.

Of course, logic has never been a strong point when it comes to the Pokemon fandom.
 
I assumed it might be the Johto Rival because we never saw the GSC rival in the Johto Anime. Mind you it might be a bit like the Ash/Travis thing all the way back in Orange League where Luana said her son looked identical to Ash after mistaking him for her son. Its also a bit weird anyway that he even looks like the GSC rival why doesn't he look like the D/P rival with the blond hair and stuff.

Haha, I remember people actually thought Drew was Wally when the preview to his first episode aired in Japan back when AG first started. Good times.
 
I say that Shinji has been in Johto because he's not necessarily a newbie trainer and looks as if he knows what he's doing when it comes to Pokemon Battles.

I ask why did Shinji have to be in Johto to be slightly experienced? In fact, I say Shinji's a newbie (in the sense he just got his starter) who's never left the country AND has no relation to Kamon, BUT has more innate sense toward battling. Which means he might've unofficially handled a pokemon in his family and 'battled' with it, perhaps...or he just knows what he's doing right out of the stall.

Shinji is a personification of the type of trainer Kamon was in G/S, not him in person, and that doesn't necessarily mean that he's ever been to Johto, unless you're implying that being in Johto automatically means you're not a nice trainer, because if you don't remember, Damien wasn't a nice trainer either and he was from Kanto.

*bi-da* Johto has nothing to do with the kind of trainer he is.

*cough* Back on topic. Shinji seems like a Sinnoh trainer to me, but.... if I had to pick where he came from, my order is Sinnoh, Johto, Hoenn, Kanto. I just can't see him coming from Kanto.
 
...Has his hometown been stated?

If it hasn't already, I expect we'll learn it in the Sinnoh League.

If he is I didn't know I haven't been able to see anything but screenshots seeing as how I live in England and I don't understand Japanese anyway. So if he is sorry for wasting everybodys time.
 
i agree wolvorn, shinji might even be like ash, he travels through regions and trying to be the master, who says that he didn't catch chimchar anyways, sorta like ash caught turtwig, he might even have some kinda lvl 100 feraligatr too, ya never know
 
My investigative skills have pointed it at the city with the third Gym.

So we may get more development for Shinji around that Gym battle...
 
Tobari City is home to the third Gym Leader, Sumomo, as well as a Department Store, Game Corner, and Team Galactic's official Regional Headquarters and Warehouse.
