Can you tell if a pokemon is shiny or not, with pokemon like igglybuff that are hard to tell if they are shiny? Ask here!

And no, I'm not an expert at shinies, so other people can post too.

This really should be discussed in the Simple Questions thread, or in the Shiny thread either here or down at Video Games. That being said, Serebii's pokedex has sprites of all of the pokemon, both normal and shiny, and it's easier to tell if you look at both sprites.

There are three ways of telling if a Pokémon is shiny or not.

1) In battle, they have a sparkle effect after the effect(s) that your Pokéball/capsule shows. The sparkling effect also appears on wild Pokémon.

2) I've never owned a 3rd or 4th gen shiny, but in the 2nd gen, there were three star marks on the Pokémon's stat screen. There's probably something similar.

3) Compare them with the one in your Pokédex. The Pokédex never displays the shiny's image.

Also check on Serebii.net, there are pictures of both the shiny and regular versions of the pokemon in the Diamond/Pearl Pokedex section. That's where i go before deciding what type of pokemon I'd like to start chaining.

The only pokemon that i cannot tell wether its a shiny or nmot is garchomp, even when you have the Norm Sprite to compare it with...Its tough

Having a shiny in the 3rd gen, you can tell not just by the color, but if you view that pogey's specific data, the No074 (for example, my shiny Geodude) above the spirit, directly below the POKéMON INFO title, will be yellow instead of the usual white.

I don't know if that holds true for the 4th gen.

In the fourth gen, there's a big, red star right next to a shiny Pokemons sprite in the Summary. You can't mis it.

another way to tell if that the number will be red as well... please dont tell em you guys have forgottom about the sparkle...

Also, in 4th gen, the Pokedex number is in Red on Shiny Pokemon
