Shiny in FR without any badges! WTF?!

I just restarted my fire Red game with a Admadent Charmander. As I went to catch a Spearow on the route with the Elite 4 on it.( not Victory road, the one attached to vireden City) I saw a Shiny Rattata! I caught it, and it's jollly. My question is, I once read in a game book that you could olny catch shiny pokemon after you defeat the elite 4. Is my game gliched? Because I did not have any badges! I wish I could show you a pic, but I don't have a camera that can do this.

You can catch a shiny in any game from GSC on at ANY time, including the opportunity to have a shiny starter. Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying or repeating a lie.

You don't need badges to get shinies. They can appear at anytime. That is why people SR for shinies in the beginning of their games.

Maybe you're mixed up with only having the ability to chain shiny pokemon after the elite four in D/P? Like the above posters have said, you can find them randomly in the wild at anytime. Sometimes before you even have your first pokeballs.

You can even see shinies before you can *catch* them. I've heard reports of being assaulted by shiny Poocheyena in RS when you're saving Birch.
