(this might well be a well-known issue/mechanic but I havn't seen any info on it so hence the post)

I got the PokéRadar a while back and started chaining, so far I have 4 shinys but there seems to be shenanigans going on in my game. I have red/watched at least 3 guides on chaining but noone of them talk about anything like what I'm experiencing.

First there was Phanpy: I had just caught a shiny one without breaking my chain so I was reseting my radar when I ran in to a wild non-radar encounter which ofc broke my chain. At first I though my repel had stopped right before I saw the shiny patch, and that I had forgotten to use a new one, but after a while "repels effects wore off".

Then there was Krabby: I had just caught a shiny one without breaking my chain, and this time I made sure to check my repel, it was active. But that didn't stop the wild non-radar encounter I got a few steps later.

All this would be "OK" I guess, if not for what happend yesterday with my Natu chain: I had just seen a shiny patch so I double-checked my repel and walked towards it untill I was standing in the patch above it, I pushed down on the controllpad and instantly encounterd a wild non-radar Natu that ofc broke my chain. Before I even caught a shiny!!:complain::conangry:
A while later "repels effects wore off".

(My first chain was Skitty, it got me 2 shinys. I got a third shiny patch but I ran in to a wild encounter on my way there. At the time I thought I must have forgotten to use a repel, but now I'm doubting it.)

So what the junk is goint on here? Why does my repel seem to just go "nah, here have a wild encounter :D!" when I see a shiny patch?

Hm, I've never heard of that happening before. Your lead Pokémon is high enough level to scare off anything with the repel, right? Sometimes you can still be attacked by wild Pokémon after using a repel if your lead Pokémon isn't a high enough level.

omg :dumb: I know what's wrong :eek:hdear:

my kill-all-40-in-the-chain has always been at least 10 levels higher than whatever lives in the grass, but not my synchronize pokemon that I've put on front be4 stepping in the shiny patch -.-
after I cought the shiny poke I've let the synchronize stay in front...

ahh well... mystery solved

Here's a tip: let your Sychronizer faint, but keep it in the first slot in your party. The Synchronize ability still works, but you can keep your higher-leveled pokemon in your party and their level will affect the repel.

I''m fairly sure this is happening because you walked out of range. There must be at least one of the patches that shook on screen at all times while chaining or you lose your chain and have to start over again. I know this from experience.

Yeah I know this from experiance to >.< and just when I got to 40 to :(

(not what was causing my problem though)

That's handy indeed!
