Shiny Starters?

I wouldn't have the patience. I did repeatedly reload over and over at the Dragon's Den until I got a shiny Dratini. I don't want to think about how much time I wasted on that.

I haven't tried it. It's not that important to me to have a shiny. I don't have the patience to try that anyways.

well, i tried...once. when i first picked, it was a normal girl cyndaquil. then i SR'd and it was another normal girl cyndaquil. i've never been lucky enough to get a girl starter, let alone twice, so i just kept it.
 
Yeah I ended up giving up after about 3 hours :( I should have kept at it and started checking for a female Cyndaquil now that I think about it. Oh well, another time.

Daggum, I SR'd for a half an hour without getting a female Cyndaquil. I always used to get one and name it Cindy (it seems so creative when you're ten :p)
 
No shiny for me, I don't have the patience for it. :p

But my girlfriend, as soon as she recieved some pokeballs BOOM, first pokemon she could catch was a shiny pidgey. wtf.
 
Hehe, actually, my HG team will be full of shinies! : D
You see, I made some trades a while back. I noticed that there were many Johto ones that I got and thought: "Well, why not using them as my team in HeartGold?"
And the result is:
~Bakuro/Cyndaquil/male [I haven`t got him yet, but will soon :3]
~Tsunami/Totodile/male [Tsunami stays as Totodile.]
~Hana/Chikorita/female
~Maryu/Mareep/female
~Yoru/Hoothoot/male
~Milku/Miltank/female
Hah, I can`t wait HeartGold!

That team looks great, though you have to make sure you won't overlevel them. They can't have the same OT/ID/SID combination as the games they came from, after all. :p

I alway call my female cindaquil Bernice and staryu: Spanky
and first geodude: gertrude regardless of gender :)
 
This thread is discussing getting a Shiny starter at the start of the game. Not shinies in general. Don't go off topic.
 
I think it's on-topic enough to tal about "re-rolling" at the start of the game here.

Is re-rolling your starter actually worth it?
 
I never bothered. I have better things to do in the game then keep resetting trying to get a pokemon of a different color who I'll end up ditching when I actually get around to building a comp. team.
 
When I get the game I will soft-reset a few times for a shiny Cyndaquil, but only for about ten or so minutes, and I can just breed one later hopefully.

Slightly off topic here, but is it possible for the Rival to have a shiny Starter in HGSS? I mean, per-chance, is there still the change he'll have a shiny, or is it scripted that he won't?

I don't think so, because his team are pre-programed in. they program it to never be shiny (just like event Pokemon [except for the obvios PCP], at least, that's what I think they do)
