"In the Post-Shipper, Era, 'The Office' is the Most Romantic Show on Television"

Linda Holmes said:
In most places where television is discussed, the most devoted shippers are, frankly, the bane of everyone else's existence, because there is not an episode, a scene, a shot, or a camera angle that doesn't somehow relate to whether or not there will be kissing.

"Will there be kissing? When? Where? What music will be playing? What will everyone be wearing? Will this episode contain kissing? How about next week's? How about in the season finale? Do you think the "dramatic development" in TV Guide is about kissing? Did you see that screenshot that one guy posted from that one episode where there seems to be smudged lipstick on that one actress? I wonder if it's because she was just busy kissing. KISSING KISSING KISSING, and have I mentioned...kissing?"

:)

And people think Pokemon shippers are the worst kind out there. :p

I was hoping the article would do a little history of shipping, (Wasn't Mulder/Skully from the X-Files first followed shortly after by Rocketshipping?) but it is hilariously comforting knowing that we're not the craziest shipping fandom out there.

...HA. Very accurate exaggeration of the bloody farkin' truth. Though that's not just applicable to the TV fandoms, obviously.

And whoever said that we're the worst kind clearly haven't been exposed to many fandoms. We're bad, yes, but there are many who are worse and many more that are better behaved.

Yep!

(And Babylon 5 shipping came close on their heels, as I recall. But that may have been in the general wave of other fandoms using "ship" as a term, not sure.... )

Rocketshipping = Best. Pun. EVER.

I daresay Bleach and possibly YGO could be worse shippers than Pokemon, but I will admit I have met rabid T.V. series shippers as well... especially in Supernatural.

:lol::lol::lol:

I've been in one of the worse fandoms and it's not pretty. Pokemon doesn't come even close to what I've seen. I notice the more canon ships are, the more brutal it gets.

*cough*Naruto*cough* *cough*Avatar*cough* *cough*Harry Potter*cough* *cough*Digimon*cough*
Sailor Moon, DBZ, G Gundam (KFUFKJFDDSK!!!), ANY Gundam after that, Final Fantasy, Smallville or so I've heard. Dunno about my TV fandoms; I'm only in one/two of about ten I watch.

Wait, which one is considered the pedophile? Aang is 100+ years old...
In a 12/13 year old body. Except Katara's 14/15, so dunno what they're spewing.

*sits on the side and calmly takes her Zuko/Sokka and Zuko/Jet* *well far out of the wank*

Well, they were the first shippings that were termed that, but I think Kirk/Spock from Star Trek is the "first ship", since it's the first one people bothered writing fanfiction for. Hell, it even has an article on Wikipedia. XD

Harry Potter and Avatar have the worst shippers. The Harmonians and the Kataang vs. Zutara shipwars are just crazy. I'm worried the Bleach fandom will go that way too if Kubo Tite confirms any Ichigo or Orihime ship. There's a large, loud group of Ichigo/Orihime and Ichigo/Rukia shippers that are very, very crazy and if something will get confirmed, heads will roll.

The Pokemon fandom is relatively calm. We mostly keep to ourselves and respect other shippers, which is surprising considering that fact that it's a kids show. XD The Pokeshipping vs. Palletshipping debate is the furthest it ever got and compared to the above examples, it wasn't bad.

It's because shipping isn't supposed to be taken seriously in this show, so all the shippings made here from fantasy and the imaginations run wild. You get a different response from actual ships.

I think that's a bit much. Yeah, a lot of ships don't have much of a base in reality, but you can't say that ALL of them have nothing to back them up.

AMEN! They're almost enough to drive me away from the fandom altogether, particularly Harry Potter. Personally, I support the canon HP ships (with a few occasional deviances), but really, I just don't bother anymore. I get ripped to shreds by someone, no matter who I say I ship.

Exactly, you don't hear that kind of thing in Pokemon about Ash/anyone. Zootards :(
Wait, what? XD Yes we do! How many arguments agains Pokeshipping start out, "Well, Misty's 12, so she's too old for Ash." ? Or:

"Ash isn't interested in girls."
"Yes he is! Giselle proves it!"
"From, like, TEN YEARS AGO? Where they've never made him gaga over another female again?"
"It still happened."
"Retcon'd to hell with Melody and Latias!"
"MOVIE people who don't count for such?"

Et cetra, et cetra.

Yeah, a lot of ships don't have much of a base in reality, but you can't say that ALL of them have nothing to back them up.

No, that's not what I was saying. It's so rare to see ships support their own weights.

I get ripped to shreds by someone, no matter who I say I ship.

I'm glad to say most of it, if not all, has died down. I hope I'm not wrong. Ugh, it was that bad. *shudders*

Oh, amen to the Harry Potter fandom. I can't believe I forgot to mention that one. Perhaps I was in deep, deep denial...

The Office is the most romantic show on television???? I watch it for the laughs... In fact, I didn't even know Office fans could all be classified as a fandom...

Yes, the Harry Potter fandom is one of the worst. I've met some of the most annoying shippers... I don't follow Harry Potter that much, (So I don't know any ship names) but I've just know people who you want to scream at "WHY DON'T YOU KEEP IT CONFINED TO THOUGHTS AND SHADDUP!"

Avatar is almost as bad. However, only my younger cousins follow it. They need to stop watching animes, they don't have one ship they like because it's spoiled by him falling for the girls on screen. (Particularly the older ones) So I'm fine with Avatar fandom that I'm familiar with because it gives me laughs.

At the end of it all that's what I used to think. Why couldn't they just keep it to themselves?

Avatar isn't an anime, and the plural of anime is anime.

Huh? I thought the Melody thing confirmed his interest in girls. He wasn't exactly gagging when she kissed him, after all, and I interpreted his "I'm the Chosen One! I gotta be responsible!" as his instinctive response to Melody's flirting (wanting to impress her - I doubt he was aware of why, but Misty sure had an inkling). Not that Ash isn't apt to be heroic, but it wasn't (at that point) a world-saving quest, and he usually is in favor of hanging around and eating...

There was some episode somewhere, too, I forget where...I think it was in a gym (in Johto?), where some young women were kind of flirting with him, and he got (pardon the cultural mish-mash I'm committing here) all gung ho about something, more so than usual....

I think young Ash is as susceptible to girls as he was when he saw that photo of Giselle, but traveling with Misty, he found it expedient to keep it under wraps, and now it's reflex for him. ;-)
