A little while ago I had some news program on in the background, and it was going on about the "shoe diet" where you're supposed to buy yourself a pair of shoes every time you lose 5 pounds. Then they had this woman who I guess was a shoe expert or something on there, and the newswoman asked her, "So what is it with women and shoes? Why shoes, why not jeans or sweaters?" And the shoe woman was like "Because shoes are physical. They activate the pleasure centers in your brain. They're just so physical." So apparently we've learned that shoes, unlike sweaters or jeans, are physical. Later on the shoe woman said that shoes are special because "They're the only connection between you and the ground."

Where did this stereotype of women and shoes come from anyways? I have never known even one female who cared at all about shoes. I mean do any of you people care about shoes?!

You don't know anyone who does anything normal.

Yes girls and women love shoes. No I don't know why.

I don't know what it is with women and shoes, either. I tend to buy them only if I need them.

I'm female, and I own ONE pair of shoes that I wear regularly. They're Nike tennis shoes, I've had them for five years, and they've been on countless adventures with me. From poultry shows, to walking the beach nearly every day in college, to houseboating on Lake Mead, to movie premieres on Hollywood Boulevard, to Disneyland several times, to Chinatown in San Francisco, to all over the isle of Maui, to backpacking in Alaska, to touring Italy...and so much more.

Tomorrow morning at 4:00 AM they're going to Indianapolis for the (epic!) poultry show nationals. So many good memories have been made in these shoes. So you could say I like shoes. My shoes. :-D

Okay, so they aren't the ONLY pair of shoes I have. I have hiking boots, which obviously see use only at certain times; a couple of pairs of dress/going out shoes, which get worn even less. Much of the year I don't even wear "shoes," I wear flip-flops. But I generally like to wear real "shoes" when I travel, which is how my Nikes have been on all my various adventures. And obviously I love that about them. :-D

I don't understand the women+shoes thing either. I DO have female friends and family members who ARE obsessed with shoes, though, and totally fit the stereotype! (<--GREAT YouTube video ahoy!) Me, however, I tend to be less materialistic/frivolous and more pragmatic. Shoes are pretty far down on my priority list.

I don't think I know anyone obsessed with shoes.

I have more shoes then most of my female friends...0.0

It's not every woman.

FTR I own four pairs of shoes. A relaxing pair of sneakers, a pair Adidas running shoes, a pair of black converse and a pair of black boots.

Yeah. I'm female and I don't have the shoe obsession thing. I own multiple pairs of shoes - most are dress shoes that I really never wear, since I don't have reason to dress up too often - but I only have two pairs of shoes that I wear most often (a pair of sneakers to wear with jeans and a pair of canvas slip-ons to wear with capris/shorts).

I hardly ever buy shoes (only when one of my main pairs is looking /really/ bad.. I like my shoes more the longer I own them.. they get more comfortable). My mom and sister-in-law on the other hand? Yeah, they totally love to buy shoes. I think my mom's closet is mostly shoes. o_x;

Edit: And my brother has more of a shoe obsession than most females I know (except my mom). While I'm comfortable buying a pair of $5-on-sale white canvas shoes, my brother has to have the high-priced name brand "skater" shoes and such. Where I'm fine having the one pair of shoes, he usually has to have five or six (or more).

I buy lots of dress shoes just because they seem to dissappear on me quite often o.o

But for casual shoes, I only have one pair.

I'm a girl, but I never understood why other girls like shoes so much. They're just shoes. I don't even care how they look. Hell, the only shoes I wear now are Crocs, which are notorious for being butt ugly.

I guess I'm a rarity here- I love shoes, and go insane whenever they're on sale. But not all shoes. Just certain kinds. Those kinds being:
-GothLoli style shoes (Mary Janes and the like)
-Boots (Black, but not too low cut, preferably platform)
-Comfy shoes (sandals, canvas slip ons- I'm wearing a pair of Vans lookalikes I bought at K Mart for $5 right now...)
Also, Bongo is pretty much my favorite brand, since I've got at least 3 pairs of shoes by them now (Sears always has them on clearance)

I'm guessing this is because I go to a Catholic school where we all wear uniforms, and shoes are one of the only ways we can express ourselves... the first time I wore my black platform army boots ($20 at Meijer!) to school this year, the Italian exchange student in my English class freaked out.

What really annoys me is that little girls get all the good shoes. Five times now I've seen the cutest patent MJs, and they're all in girls' sizes only. And I don't have the $50 to spend on a pair from Hot Topic...

Wow... so much ranting about shoes.

It's hard to explain... but there's just something awesome about finding the PERFECT pair of shoes to go with a sexy dress you own, a favorite pair of jeans, even finding a cool pair of flip-flops to go with a bathing suit can be a kick-ass experience :D Of course I'd have to say *my* real vice isn't so much shoes as much as it is purses. I love finding a cute purse that can hold my make-up and other girly crap... annnnnnnd my DS/game case. XD

You know you're a geek when you base purchases on whether they can hold your portable gaming systems...

Ain't it the truth XD

You also know you're a geek when you're considering getting Yoshi tattooed on your back... o.0

Unfortunately, as a guy, there's not much diversity in the types of shoes that I wear, and I'm too cheap for stuff like Air Jordans or w/e :p

Shoelaces, love, shoelaces. My boyfriend has boring sneakers with skull shoelaces and it looks pretty damn cool.

I think that all women are obsessed with some material thing, and the stereotypical "thing" is shoes or clothes. In regards to this, I own all of three pairs of shoes: my sneakers, which I wear most often, my marching shoes, because I'm a geek and I still hang onto them, and a pair of nice dress shoes that have been worn all of four times in the five years I've had them. Obviously, I'm not into shoes.

Though, I can safely say I am obsessed with other things: video games, Drakengard, Pokemon, obtaining Okami, and obtaining music. Take yesterday for example. I had an irrepressable (sp?) urge to download MP3's. First, I was just trying to find "Growing Wings" from Drakengard 1 and the theme song from the first season of Pokemon. Then, it grew. I ended up downloading 43 songs before I knew what was happening. It was awful.

So, what are ya'll obsessed with?

Seriously?

Not that that's weird or anything. I've been thinking about getting either a black tulip or red rose tattoo (not unusual unless you consider their Pokemon associations...)

That's kind of a sexist remark. It's not like men aren't obsessed with material things. Society just doesn't think of it as an obsession because usually, they're obsessed with more "practical" things and when they buy them, it's not seen as a waste of money. It becomes an obsession only when it comes to geeks, because how practical can video games and DVDs be?
