Pairings that are linked due to counterparts.

That's just something I've been thinking of for the past few hours..

For example Twinleafshipping.
That's the game name in a reality, but since Barry appeared it hasn't been game exclusive. Heck, even the shipping's page on Bulbapedia basicaly says its an anime pairing. It even redirects to the anime in the opening page and there's no game info anymore.

It's rare for pairings to have specific names for different continuities. And if they do they aren't creative.

A good example, the original protagonist x original rival. Palletshipping, Originalshipping, and Masarashipping.
Another would be "original" female protagonist x original male protagonist. Burningleafshipping and Luckyshipping.

A partial example would be original protagonist x Misty. Pokeshipping and MangaPokeshipping..But there's no game name.

It would be easier to understand however they aren't the same character.

It'll be too confusing. Hints, the 'canoness', whether they've met or not, interactions, personalities...It all comes into play

Edit: Ah, I read it wrong, Sorry *-*" Would you mind explaining it better? ^^"

A lot of shippings involving counterparts (for example, Red from Special, Red from the games, and Ash) and other counterparts (like the Misty's) tend to be under the same name.

For example, the Gen 4 female protagonist x her rival. That would be Pearl x Dawn and Barry x Dawn which both go under Twinleafshipping. Platina x Pearl is Haughty, though.

Should they all get their own names?

Lies, what the hell.

It's Hanadshipping (for the classic character) and PokéFireshipping (for the FR character).

Anime and game character are synonymous when the two characters share a civilian name.

Note that NewBark is distinct from Questshipping, but they are counterparts of game and anime.

Hoennshipping, Fortuneshipping, Twinleafshipping, I can go on, they're the same for anime and game, because they characters in them are the same. They are not treated like separate characters, because they're meant to be the same character. If it's Gen 2 or Gen 1, they're segregated characters. Gen 3 and beyond are not.

'The heck is with having names for the remake characters? They're the same person..

They're counterparts though. Different characters.

The only pre!GenIII character who is different in appearance enough to warrant a separate tag is game!Red. Every other game remake counterparts are considered the same as their original game counterpart (with the exception of Kris vs Lyra, for understandable reasons), because the most they got is a change in wardrobe (and Silver got a cowlick).

I don't see why he would even get a different tag. He's Red. He still looks like Red and even if he didn't he is the same character.

Anyway, back to the counterparts and shipping names.

I personally see people using the same ship name for all counterparts - Game!Silver x Game!Gold is still Preciousmetalshipping, and most people just use Franticshipping for Anime!May x Anime!Brendan (and his... ten second appearence XD). Note that this is on Fanfiction's archive - people just put whatever ship name is the most popular when dealing with counterparts, because "Pokeshipping" will get more hits than "Mangapokeshipping." Of course, this is The Pit, so people will do pretty much anything to get more reviews... XDX

It depends. In some things, all counterpart shippings need to have different names because the same character can technically be more than one character. *cough*Yu-Gi-Oh!*cough*

But...well, it would get confusing. However, when evidence exists for one version (say...ChoosenShipping, for example) of a shipping, but not another version (Silver x Leaf, for example), it might be necessary to distinguish the two (or three, or whatever).

Frantic? I've only ever heard of Hoenn, and I can understand why.

People use Hunter but..Not that much. Everyone likes Soulsilver

But what about ones like Twinleaf? I personally detest the use of the name for the anime.

Frantic is manga only. And used popularly over there.

Why? It's not like there's any hints of it in the game. There's no conflict.

The game and anime leave enough open for things like this to coincide without harming the other. The anime and game characters from RuSa and DP are enough alike that they can technically share the same space in a 'ship.

Gym Leaders aren't separated between versions (unless it happens to Giovanni-from-the-anime/Giovanni-from-Special), so why do the heroes who are meant to be technically the game characters in anime form?

That's what they are.

Hoennshipping is game only. Franticshipping is manga Special only. But, I've only ever heard people use "Hoenn" for the anime.

..
They're still counterparts and aren't one in the same though. They deserve different names since they aren't the same characters.

*face palm* For the sake of simplicity.

Game characters are more blank slates than developed anime characters. Hoennshipping is used in the standards of the anime, that they mostly always use May's anime personality, even when adopting a game setting. Because the anime personality is prevalent over whatever stray text the game gives you (and Brendan, any way they figure). The only thing is, it's the interpretation of character, put into the voiceless protagonist's place, and expanded upon.

Nevermind that yes, Hoennshipping is used in the setting of the anime too.

Except in the case of Barry in the anime, who is meant to be, without a doubt, the same character as the game rival Pearl. I don't think anyone would deny that, if you asked them outside of 'shipping.
