Should any of the main cast nick-name their Pokemon?

They always call them by their species name.
Not that many players call their Pokemon by their species name.

The anime has been "confirming" Pokemon genders lately not Pikachu's though.

How about someone naming at least one of their Pokemon? Maybe for the next generation? Or Leaf if she ever appears outside of cameo.

I'd prefer that they didn't. I doubt the dub would give them a nickname that I like.

If one of them was nicknamed, it wouldn't necessarily have to be gender specific.
And lol, denial.

I meant they're changing that part of the show, they've always kept their genders ambiguous, so why not make someone nickname their Pokemon?

Maybe in the future they'll introduce a major character that nicknames their Pokemon. I doubt Ash and co. are going to start now all of a sudden.

Hey, wht about Richie/Hiroshi?

He's far from being a main character, of course, but he's a fairly important rival with quite a few appearances and even his own hoso specials!

I think someone is forgetting about Kojiro... granted, next week will only be the second time we've seen Ga-chan, but he's still a main character who nicknamed his pokemon.

Nope. Like I said, he's had hoso specials starring him, as well as appearing for a two or maybe three parter in late Jouto.

He also appeared in the Rivals opening and, er, yeah. Basically, he might not be a main character, but he's not a COTD or that minor at all!

He doesn't nickname his Pokemon anymore, however, does he? Growly isn't going to be on his team either.

That's why I said "alongside Ash".

He's not a minor but he's defiantly not that much of a rival.

It could be nice if all/most of the Coordinators would give nicknames to their Pokémon, as they're always doing that in the games... but I doubt they'll start to do it now all of a sudden, as we already have Contests on the show for over 6 years didn't see even one Coordinator who nicknamed his Poké, as far as I remember (well, unless you count Marina... but back then she wasn't really a Coordinator)

Misty also has a luvdisc named Lavern but she isn't a part of the main cast anymore.

Brock should name them all something. Specifically Mudkip should have gotten the name Skip.

I don't think the main characters should name their pokemon. I never really liked the nickname aspects in the games. Ritchie only had his pokemon nicknamed because they are all clones of Ash's (especially in his debut appearance).

I think they should.
Just calling the Pokèmon "Pikachu" and "Mudkip" would in my eyes be like naming your pets "Cat" and "Dog" XD
They ARE species-names after all.

i dont think they should, because then it takes all the seriousness out of the series. because honestly, would you REALLY like having to hear ash calling a new pokemon by some cheesy name? it would get annoying. and the specie names are important to the anime. because it lets you pretend your a part of the show. i know im guilty of pretending im ash, and ordering my pikachu around. if it had a nickname, then it wouldnt be any fun :\

I think the main problem with nicknaming Pokemon in the anime is that there are too many Pokemon. Seriously, the main characters have at least three Pokemon per person, like hell anyone is going to be able to remember the Pokemon's name AND their nickname.

Not to mention all nicknames in the anime suck.

Richie named his Butterfree, "Happy."

Do we really need to see that for main characters? Not to mention the different language dubs would almost certainly make the nicknames different per each language.
