Hey everyone I wanted to know what you guys think about this. Well let me get started why do you think Gamefreak puts the Event Pokémon data into the games knowing that people are gonna hack into the games system with cheating devices. What I think they should do is just leave enough data empty for the specified number of Event Legends. Would it not make more sense to leave these Pokémon as suprises so that when they do reveal them it'll be more exciting to us. Please don't hesitate to post your response.

You mean not program them into the game at all? That would be the only way to keep them a secret in the first place, but there has to be space for them and I think they have to be programmed in for some reason. I think thats why it is done that way, but you do have a point, they are always discovered by people hacking the game.

If they aren't put in the game, how do you expect them to show up in the game when they are revealed?

The problem with non-patchable games. They can be cleverly hidden, such as the alternate forms of legendaries, or even sacrify some little compativility. But without a way for the game to be updated on the fly, adding actual content to the already released games is simply impossible.

Note though, there are ways to build the games to support potential new stuff. The way pokémon are allowed to have any ability and moveset, including plenty of otherwise unused flags and features, allow for all those special distributions.
But all of that are simple flags and variables that tell the game to look up for things that are already in it.

Note though that nowadays plenty of games ARE updated and their content does change, namely online PC games which can do so very easilly. But this is not the case with DS or most (if not all) cpnsole games.

I don't like the idea of not programming them in/making it really hard jut to keep suspense for a little while.

Advertising wise I wouldn't mind if they had silhouettes with no information on them as bait for when they do plan to announce them for the people who weren't curious enough to browse websites for people who know all the Pokemon programmed into the game already.

If they didn't program them into the game but left the game expandable so that they could be added, then knowledgeable users could add their own new pokemon data (which might be broken if they are not competent). They probably don't want people to do that.
