Should Hikari have any main rivals?

Since it sounds like Ash will possibly having two rivals should Hikari have one? People are saying that's too much for the writers to hanndle, it would be neat if they gave her a girl rival and not a male one so to make her rivals different from May's. What do you think?
 
She may have one, but the writers are going to have trouble juggling three rivals in the same saga. If you noticed in Battle Frontier, Drew ended up playing backseat to Harley until the end of the saga.

I think the writers made a mistake giving Ash both Gary AND Shinji. Did an experienced trainer like Ash really need TWO rivals, and have newbie Hikari with either none or one? How does this make sense?

Unless the writers plan is to turn Hikari into a Mary Sue, which would be very disappointing. Considering she dresses up like a Barbie doll during her Contests, it would be funny if her rival made fun of her dresses.
