so, those of you not familiar with Mother 3, it is a GBA RPG made by HAL, same people that worked on Kirby and Smash bros. it is a excellent game with a awesome story, epic music and overall great gameplay, however, it never got a international release :bawl: which sucks cause it is one of the best RPGs ever made, there IS a fan translation, but it requires a ROM and emulator. so ive been thinking, should they release Mother 3 on the 3DS Virtual console, and make this game see the light of day outside of Japan?

Tell me if you agree or not, and please explain why.

As a passionate Mother fan, I of course will respond with yes. But you have to think about why it wasn't. Earthbound/Mother 2 sold very poorly outside of Japan, meaning releasing the sequel would be a gamble. Secondly, Mother 3 went into development for the GBA in 2003, when new GBA games were still being produced. It ended up coming out in 2006, two years after the DS hit the market. In it's native Japan, it was highly anticipated, meaning it didn't matter if it was on an obsolete system, as people wanted it. Considering that a text heavy RPG would take time to translate and localize, Nintendo was rightly apprehensive about releasing a relatively unknown game from a outdated console in other parts of the world.

What Signas said. Nintendo is a business company after all. They know when is the right time to release a game that's well-received in Japan to the shores.

It should have, but it was at the end of the Game Boy Advance's lifespan. Maybe at eShop, but that's as unlikely as Pokemon on eShop.

I have the Japanese cartridge, and I do believe it deserved an international release. The game is amazing.

I think the cartridge window has been locked and shut, but I wouldn't mind an eShop release. I'd buy it.

I think it should have been released on the Nintendo DS, but they might not want to release it at the end of that console's life. That's one of the reasons MOTHER 1 and 3 were held back for the NES and GBA, respectively.

And while MOTHER 3 might not sell well here, I think the chances are great that it would succeed, as prices for EarthBound keep going up. I'd personally buy a localized MOTHER 3. If it were released on the eShop or Virtual Console, I'd buy a 3DS or Wii just for that game. Then again, I'm just a MOTHER fan. (Though there are also a million others...)

a 3DS port of the game would be very nice, although they would have to make a completely new translation rather than the infamous fan translation, because of legal issues :p

If anything, a remake of EarthBound will do nicely as well.
