Should some moves have more than one type?

Something that's always bothered me is why "Steel Wing" wasn't any stronger on a "grass" type than "Iron Tail". Later when I learned about "Muddy Water", I thought it was odd that is wasn't any stronger on "Electric" or "Poison" types. I finally realized that it would make sense for these types of moves to be dual types. Some examples of dual types (as I see them) might be:

  • Steel Wing - Steel/Flying
  • Muddy Water - Water/ground
  • Twin Needle - Bug/Poison
  • Blaze Kick - Fire/Fighting
  • Shadow Sneak - Ghost/Dark (It's kind of dirty trick, right?)

There are plenty of other attacks that could exist as dual types, these are just some examples.

How they would work:
Imagine a move like "Muddy Water". This attack would work on Moltres, whose "Flying" type is immune to ground attacks. But it would X4 to a Magmar and X4+X4=X16 to a Magcargo (I think). "Steel Wing" would knock out a Shedinja, because of the Flying Type.

I don't think this would be a major gameplay change, but it would add something for pokemon like Skarmory and Blaziken...

What do you think?

Oh hey, this topic again.

No, I don't think so. I think that the moves are fine with one type like they are now. Add multiple types and all that can be said is, "Broken!"

Aww. :( That's too bad, I think it would be fun. Anyway, I wasn't around when this topic came up before; I thought I had an original idea.

Sadly, I have to say no. It will be confusing to many people. I still dont get the EV system either, so this idea isnt that well thought out. But it would be nice to see Sableye use the Ghost/Dark Shadow Sneak XD

Moves with two types will be quite complicated, and in a way, overpowered, because if type effectiveness and STAB really accumulate, then a move will be too strong in the hands of certain Pokemon. If this feature really happens, then I expect the multiplier to be less, because 50% increase in power is actually quite huge, and the fact that x2 super effectiveness is really a big issue if it accumulates (even x4 super effective attacks are already threatening). Also if a theoretical Psychic/Ghost takes a Ghost+Dark Shadow Sneak off double STAB, the damage will be x36. That's huge!

Would be interesting, but sadly overpowered I think with stab modifiers. Also, the whole "immune" thing would have to be looked at because will shadow sneak (ghost/dark) hit girafarig for x2 damage?

Nice idea, but I think it would be a bit overpowered :)

Wow, I didn't even think of STAB or items and abilities that up the power of certain types (miracle seed and overgrow). I'd love to see the message for X36 effective attack though, "It was devastating!". :)

I don't think anyone wants moves to be able to have 16x super effectives. It's a cool idea at first, second and third glance, but at fourth glance, reality dawns on you.

I don't think this would be a major gameplay change, but it would add something for pokemon like Skarmory and Blaziken...

Yes it will be a major change in gameplay. And I think it would suck. Attack types are already fine the way they are. Let's not screw them up =))

NO. That would make everything, to be frank, complicated as hell. For example, if Moltres used Sky Attack, if it was typed Fire/Flying, on a Parasect with Dry Skin. Yowza.

I probably sound like a broken record saying this, but no. It wouldn't be worth the complication or hassle.

Plus, it'd be cheap like a mofo.

i think most moves arent wide enough to have 2 types, they all should be able to fit into the one
