Should the movies give bigger roles to Ash's friends than Ash himself?

One big problem with the movies, especially now that there's so many of them, is they all start to feel too similar because Ash is the hero and saves the day in every single one of them. We all know why that is, but why can't Ash's friends get bigger roles in the movies?

We've had his friends connect to a legendary in the movie, like Max/Jirachi or May/Manaphy, which is a pretty big role in the movie as its the main plot, but still Ash saves the day in those movies, not Max or May.

Likewise Misty and Brock (especially Brock, lol), never got much screentime in the movies at all. Subplots for Misty in Movie 2, and they got to battle Molly in Movie 3, but that's it.

Dawn got to help save the day in Movie 10, but was sidelined in Movie 11 and 12.

Team Rocket's role in the movies, especially after the first four or so, are almost non-existent.

Should they give Ash's friends bigger roles in the movies?

Tracey got even less. He did nothing in movie 2.

They should get bigger roles. It doesn;t have to be a staring role but much bigger role is always appreciated.

With Movie 11 I have to say that, until the very end, Dawn was totally equal to Ash... also, even after Ash stole the "save the day" thing, Dawn still did things, unlike Brock who just was there

Movie 10 was the only movie where someone got to do be totally equal to Ash and do with him the "save the day" thing... hopefully new girl will get to do this too... and yes, they should give all main cast members at least one movie that focus on them or at least give them a good role

If Brock does leave after DP ends, Brock is the only main cast member aside from Tracey who never got a major role in a movie.

Even Max got a movie based on him over Brock.

At least Brock battled in Movie 3 and I think he did in Movie 4 too... and he helped with his Sudowoodo for a short scene in Movie 12
Yeah, not much... XD hopefully new sidekick will be better and got more focus (if we even get a sidekick at all... it could be just Ash and new girl for all we know)

Don't forget movie 10. That's the best treatment Brock has got. If he got to have a role on the sidelines more often it wouldn't be so bad. But then movie 11 went and made a joke out of him being left behind while Ash and Dawn hogged the adventure to themselves. Twice.

The problem with movie 12 is that none of the main trio really got to do much besides listen to tons of plot exposition. Dawn did team up with Ash against the villain but even then Ash's presence didn't matter until he caught the McGuffin.

Ash is the main character so he gets to be the hero. Max is at least around for the climax of his movie and Dawn is nearly as active as Ash in the DP movies so I can't fault their treatment. May not getting to do anything during the climax of her movie and Brock's poor treatment in general are the bigger issues here.

Too much emphasise on Ash being 'the Chosen One' in movie 2, an important aura guardian in movie 8. even prof oak got a major role in movie 4.

...except movie 10 where he saves it with Dawn.

We've had his friends connect to a legendary in the movie, like Max/Jirachi or May/Manaphy or Dawn/Shaymin, which is a pretty big role in the movie as its the main plot, but still Ash saves the day in those movies, not Max or May or Dawn, except she did alongside Ash in movie 10.

Ash gets focus through action, while the others get it through character developpement. One's not better than the other IMO.

Brock used Onix to battle Tyranitar in movie 4, one of 3 main cast pokémon to battle in that movie and Misty won the water race in Movie 5...

Team Rocket's role in the movies, especially after the first four or so, are almost non-existent.

Any reason they should get more ? They're comic relief.

Should they give Ash's friends bigger roles in the movies?

I'm all for shared focus, which is what Movies 6, 9, 10 and 11 did by giving Ash and another character almost equal focus though in different areas, except in Movie 10 where it was equal. Even Movie 12, Dawn had a couple of good scenes in there too. (Didn't she save Ash from Heatran at some point?)

So yes to more screentime, enough to showcase Ash and his friends and both their pokémon teams equally.

In short, yes. Ash already got enough focus he could got, give the focus to the characters that will be replaced eventually(girls, Pokémon)/or the ones that don't get much focus at all(TR, Brock).

Don't forget movie 10. That's the best treatment Brock has got. If he got to have a role on the sidelines more often it wouldn't be so bad. But then movie 11 went and made a joke out of him being left behind while Ash and Dawn hogged the adventure to themselves. Twice.

Subtle, foreshadowing of Brock's possible departure? Perhaps? When they break the fourth wall to reference what a character has become, I think it says quite a lot.

Misty didn't really do much either. The Melody subplot is the closest thing she had to a bigger role, but even that was kept to the sidelines for most of it. Ash and Team Rocket went to stop the birds, not Misty. And in Movie 5 after the opening credits finish she's shoved to the background for the entire rest of the movie.

So Dawn did get to do a bit more, than Max and May due to their legendary connections, then Misty, then lastly Brock/Tracey in the movies.

To put it bluntly, yes. Ash has done way too much in the movies, and it's good to at least let his friends be part of the "saving the day" spotlight.

Definately. If Brock somehow finds his way back into the show, he needs a movie all to himself ;)

Yes. Its nice when other characters get some development and focus in the films, and after seeing Ash save the day so many times, I wouldn't mind seeing someone else getting a chance at more action.

Tracey was in Movie 2? Haha, he should have got a bigger role!
Brock's been in every single Movie (even as a cameo) since the start, and he hasn't done anything other than get the occasional diaglogue, throwing a pokemon out once or twice, or helping not-very-much somewhere.

I don't think that scene in movie 11 was foreshadowing - more like comic relief where the anime was making fun of itself, but I wouldn't have thought foreshadowing for two years ahead! Surely less of a role would mean less likely to leave in a movie? I don't know.

I say it would be a good idea - gee, even if TR help out in a bigger way, or Brock actually goes with Ash/Dawn/Girl as they 'save the world'. Would be nicer to see someone else helping out rather than Ash saving the world every year.

I was disappointed with the 11th movie. Before it was shown & we had only the previews, everyone thought Shaymin would have some special relationship with Dawn. But, of course, Ash had to steal Dawn's thunder. Why did that have to happen?

No. They should just get better. The DP trilogy was shit. That's really my only complaint about movies. They gave Max a movie, they gave May a movie, and I mean honestly all the movies vary enough that I don't have a terribly hard time distinguishing between them. The OS and AG movies were well and good, but the DP ones really were just completely awful. If they fix that, I'd be more than happy.

In my opinion, they should add recurring characters/supporting characters in the movies.

Paul, Barry or Gary would make the movie for me.
