Should the North American release of Xenoblade Chronicles X use the European Dub?

Should Xenoblade Chronicles X use the European dub for the NA release?

  • I don't really have any strong feelings about either.

For anyone unaware, here is a short summery on the game and it's history:
Xenoblade Chronicles X is an in-development Wii U Action-RPG made by Monolith Soft, and it is a spiritual successor to Xenoblade Chronicles for the Wii, also made my Monolith. While it had a standard release in both Europe and Australia (Released August 19, 2011 in Europe and September 1, 2011 in Australia compared to Japan's original release date of June 10, 2010 ), Nintendo of America refused to localize the game due to thinking it would "sell poorly". In response, a fan movement called Operation Rainfall was created to try and persuade NoA to localize the game and two other titles, The Last Story and Pandora's Tower. On April 6, 2012, NoA gave Xenoblade Chronicles the greenlight and the game was finally put on the shelves, with critics and gamers alike praising the game for it's excellent storytelling and it's bold departure from the standard JRPG fare at the time.

Interestingly, Xenoblade's North American localization actually used the European dub rather than making a new one, possibly to save on money and to get the game out faster. This actually ended up being a major source of praise for the game, since the dub was overall very well done and many, myself included, found the all European cast to be a breath of fresh air.
Since the game is stated to get a worldwide release, I would like to ask: should NoA localize Xenoblade Chronicles X the same way as the first Xenoblade by using the European dub?

Personally, I think they should use the European Dub, not only because it worked extremely well for Xenoblade Chronicles, but because I think that there isn't enough attention being brought to the wonderful voice actors of Europe in non-PAL regions. I know that this would probably mean that Xenoblade Chronicles X would come out in America after Europe gets it, but I'm completely fine with that if we get something with the same quality of the first game. (Though if any American characters show up in X, I would expect them to be voiced by American actors.)

Here is a link to the E3 website for Xenoblade Chronicles X: Xenoblade Chronicles X for Wii U - Nintendo @ E3
And if you are interested in the game but can't play or find it (It is really hard to find for cheap.) here is a link to part 1 of an in-progress Let's Play of Xenoblade Chronicles by Chuggaaconroy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YEhVPZjgMk

Sorry is "Chronicles" no longer sounds like a word, but I just don't like using shortened titles unless I have to.
Thanks in advance for any feedback!

I never played the first Xenoblade Chronicles, but if the first game used the European dub for the North American release, then the second one should too in order to keep consistent.

As much as I would love to have European VAs again, X does focus on people who are confirmed to be Americans, so I'd expect mostly American VAs, with the possibility of a few European VAs with the excuse of "Oh, person A moved from place B to America". Too bad the battle quotes won't be as funny without the accents...

Yeah, I had read that the game would focus on an American colony, so I suppose the better question to ask would be whether or not there should be a more diverse cast rather than just all-American actors like a lot of games tend to do.

I would certainly hope that there would be a diverse cast. An all-American cast would be a bit bland, but throwing in even just a couple of European VAs could make it less "meh".

When it comes to voices, I feel there should be consistency. As Xenoblade Chronicles uses European English, X should follow suit.
