Showtime is developing an hourlong project from comic book icon Stan Lee that tracks the life of a gay superhero, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The project is being executive produced by Lee and the president and CEO of his Pow! Entertainment banner, Gill Champion.

The story, which focuses on an up-and-coming superhero who struggles to hide his secret identities, is based on the book "Hero" by Perry Moore.

Moore is writing the script and also executive producing along with Hunter Hill.

I've got a bad feeling about this... Wish I could find that list of gay superhero deaths to back up my bad feeling.

I've read the book. It was OK, too full of cliches. Also, everyone aside from the main cast was a crappily copied character from Justice League, which hurt it a lot, I think. Also, the prose wasn't exactly shining and was way too full of unnatural exposition in both dialogue and narration.

Nobody gay dies in the book, by the way.

Basically, imagine if Bucky from Captain America was crippled in the fight against the Ozymandias monster in Watchmen, married the Invisible Woman and gave birth to a gay version of Elixir from New X-men who ended up dating a teenage gay Batman and fighting against an evil version of Superman alongside a super-team consisting of Firestar and Destiny from X-men, and Kid Flash. That pretty much sums up the whole story. Basically, it's a bunch of regurgitated superhero cliches done OK, but not in a very outstanding fashion - it would be totally unremarkable if the main character wasn't gay.

If you've ever played Team Fortress, the main character Thom has the exact same abilities as the Medic, except as superpowers instead of gadgets. Right down to the Ubercharge which grants invulnerability and great strength after building up a charge with a heal.

The one totally original character in the book was Typhoid Larry, who is a nebbish, nerdy 20-something who loves sportscars and has a body comprised entirely of living diseases.

I'm just going by the track record of gay characters from comics. And, as a Showtime series, you know SOMEONE'S going to die. Might not be a gay character, though.

A ton of characters do die. Just no minority ones.

I wonder if this is going to be a mini-series/movie, or an ongoing series.
