Major publisher Shueisha Inc. has said that it will discontinue its popular monthly cartoon magazine, Gekkan Shonen Jump, after its July edition.

A Shueisha spokesperson said that the magazine will be discontinued not because of poor sales but because it plans to issue a new monthly cartoon magazine in autumn.

Gekkan Shonen Jump was first published in 1970, as a brother magazine of the popular Shukan (weekly) Shonen Jump.

The monthly has carried popular cartoons such as "Captain" by Akio Chiba and "Koha Ginjiro" by Hiroshi Motomiya.

Shueisha claims that Gekkan Shonen Jump's circulation was about 390,000 copies. The July edition goes on sale on June 6. (Mainichi)

Wait...I'm no good with Japanese culture...does this mean no more Yu-Gi-Oh!?

Read it again, guys. They're discontinuing the Gekkan Shonen Jump (released once a month), not the Shukan Shonen Jump (released every week). Shukan Shonen Jump is the magazine that carries Naruto and Bleach and all those other super-popular manga. Gekkan Shonen Jump carries things like Beet the Vandel Buster and Claymore.

Yeah, and I liked Beet too.. but I haven't really been fallowing what was in it for a long time so the only things I can think of are those, Dragon Drive, and Fire Emblem (both long gone now though...). I guess there may be a possibility that the comics will stay and just more anime and games will be added to it.. something like a large New Type. I always remember monthly shonen jump being shorter for some reason anyways.

After looking at their site, Dohran looks interesting.
also on another note, I found out Shueisha does the Japanese playboy magazine. Funny how you can visit a site for a very long time and never notice that. *goes to take a peek*
